Woman missing on the Pearl

i was on the cruise as well. it would have been nice for the cruise ship to say something to all us passengers but at the same time, i felt that because they had it so hush hush that they had it under control. i too did hear that someone, perhaps the husband, was being kept in the ship's prison cell...wherever that is. i actually talked to the husband the night before and he was telling me and the group i was with that us as guys should always take care of a woman in need of help. if it was him, that conversation now seems creepy and ironic.

I've been wondering about the pax booked in that room for the next cruise. If the ship sailed with every cabin booked, would they let them move into that cabin? What about compromising evidence that may still be there but not yet found?

It would be pretty eerie to know what had happened just a few days before in your cabin.

I was wondering about that too.

From the link....

02/01/1969 DATE OF ARREST

02/01/1969 089350 BOOKING NUMBER

02/01/1969 5301094966 OBTS NUMBER

I don't think this guy is that old! and a 40 year old arrest is hardly an indication that he is the same person! Rumors innuendo! and an arrest is NOT a conviction....

Please lets try not to hang someone and then get the facts!

My husband committed suicide, that is usually the first thing I think of when someone says "someone fell off a cruise ship". I don't think people realize how often suicides happen. It is a taboo topic and is not openly discussed.....

I worry about my kids all the time as well, they are 14 and 16 now and seem to be doing well (our incident was 5 years ago) but I have read books that say it is more likely to repeat so I keep a close eye on them.

My heart goes out to the family.

I know it is horrific-isn't it? some people who have not experienced that (losing a friend or loved one to suicide) just don't get it. It has to be something more mysterious like murder to them-they just can't comprehend people doing that.

My sister's ex husband killed himself about 4 years ago. (shot himself in the head) then about a year and a half ago his niece's daughter killed herself ( overdose of pills) then just two months ago, the girl's mother, my sister's former niece by marriage, shot and killed herself, she had never come to terms with her daughter's suicide and death.

All of these were cut and dry cases of suicide-what worries me AND my sister -is it seems to be in the genes-my sister fears that one of her children could do this. Her grandson who is 20-has been diagnosed bi-polar-she REALLY worries about him.

This is an example of a public police city jail report in Texas:

NameDOBArrest Date/Time

ChargeMug Shot

Bond/FineBond Amount

News reports state that the husband is 39 years old, making him born in 1969. I'm just deducting that 2/1/69 is his DOB. :D

My deepest condolences to all the family and friends.

This story just made Inside Edition. Sad.

They are still saying Lost at Sea and that she Fell overboard. She was in a white bathrobe and the cameras caught her going over at 8 pm Christmas Day. The husband is not considered a suspect at this time. She was a Freelance Writer from Florida. Her family is stating that she had previous emotional issues.

I am praying for the family. I was on a cruise in 2006 and we had a woman commit suicide too but jumping off the back of the boat. She missed the water and was found on a back balcony. It was a very sad occasion and to be honest I would rather not know when these things happen, since it seems to be a very common suicide practice. It really put a damper on the rest of our cruise.

HOW LONG WOULD YOU WAIT TO REPORT YOUR FAMILY MEMBER MISSING?

Do we really know what the sequence of events was for the woman, her husband or mother-in-law?

On our Alaska cruise I had taken Benadryl before dinner and then had two of glasses of wine, which knocked me out. By 8 pm my partner had taken me back to the cabin to sleep it off and he headed out the rest of the night. I woke up at 4 am. He could have been missing from 8 pm till 4 am before I could have raised an alarm.

By then I was then wide awake and left the cabin and he did not wake up till about 7 am. Say he went to bed at 1 am and I fell overboard at 4:30 am, he would not have raised an alarm till maybe 8 am.

You would most likely have jumped in with foul play innuendos in those cases too - without knowing what really happened.

yes I know its a public police report. But it is just that. Its not an indication of anything and is irresponsible as well. You know papers do have some responsibility not to ruin people lives even when its a public report.

I'm sorry to learn of your loss TK...........I can't begin to imagine how you deal with such a loss. I'm sure news of this type is very unsettling.....my best to you.

i don't mean the exact cabin...but did anyone catch in the video of the FBI gathering evidence an idea of what floor, catergory it was?

According to cruisedude135, who was on the same cruise, "they were in the elevator area deck 11 aft, below the cafe" in a balcony cabin.

P.S. Why start a new thread? Chances are the moderator(s) will merge this into the main thread about the missing woman anyway.

P.P.S. I see they already merged the threads.

Thanks :) life is good again. But stories like these are always a reminder, I will always hurt for my kids.

Funny thing is my husband could have been missing for that long and I wouldn't have noticed. On our cruise the year before he died he got drunk and passed out by dinner time, so I enjoyed the evening on my own as I had waited too long for my first vacation. When I got back to the room at 1am (after dinner, gambling, watching shows, comedy, etc) HE was ready to go out........I hardly saw him the entire trip. Not to sound harsh, but I am glad he didn't do it then. People would've immediately pointed the blame at me I suppose.

It is negligent not to tell fellow cruisers!

Among the first things that needs to happen is to find out who, if anyone, saw/heard anything about this couple during the hours in question. That not only helps on-board investigators determine what happened, it offers a much better chance of obtaining clean statements -- those which haven't been tainted by what rumors people have heard on board -- that may be needed later on by the FBI.

No, it is not negligent. And, it would only impede the real investigation. Hard evidence is the most crucial, especially in the beginning, and not so called eye witness testimony. If there is no evidence of foul play, all the "accounts" from everyone else is just hersay, rumor, and speculation. By announcing it to everyone, it would just make all the rumors worse. The investigation starts from the inside-out. They start with the balcony and room and then to interviewing the cabins immediately to either side and above. Beyond that it gets really fuzzy. Even if you were two cabins down and said you saw her get pushed; you are too far away and have a bad angle to be credible (unless you were in a hump cabin which this wasn't).

They did mention the cabin number on the one news story video. You'll note that the one picture shows them measuring the height of the railing. This would be, in part, to make sure it was installed at the required height (45 inches if I remember right).

There are so many kids and families onboard Christmas week, I think it wise to have not discussed it. Maybe a letter on the door, but don't alarm the kids.

On the other hand, if she was missing and not narrowed down to be overboard, I think they need to get the word out. The longer someone is missing, the less likely they are to be found alive.

As far as I know, the cameras on the ship capture only the outer edge of the balconies- there are no cameras that can show what actually happened on 95% of the balcony. So even if they have her jumping off w/ what seemed to be her own free will...who knows who was with her or what was going on on the rest of the balcony to cause/force/help her to do so...

I think its horrible that Norwegian didn't tell the other passengers about this. Who knows what someone else could have added to the story?? And what if there really is a murderer (speculating, obviously) on the boat?? Id like to think I have a right to know to be on the extra alert, even if the chance is slim.

On ABC News they just said that this is the 5th person to fall of of a cruise ship this year and not be found... I know about the woman on the Norwegian Dawn, but who were the other 3???

HOW LONG WOULD YOU WAIT TO REPORT YOUR FAMILY MEMBER MISSING?

I think that you need to understand that everyone is different in how they behave, and what is or isn't odd for them.

In our case, I'm a late night person. Very late. And I love the casino. It's not uncommon at all for hubby to go off to bed at midnight and I don't follow for another 3 or so hours.

Also, on our last few cruises, my dad has been with us in our cabin and I've been the one designated to sleep in the upper berth...so hubby and I aren't even in the same bed at night. If he is sound asleep, and there was a problem with me, it would not be unusual at all for him to sleep all night and wake in the morning to find that I never came in the night before.

So, I can certainly understand how something like this might happen.
