SFParrtHd Posted April 29, 2009 #1 Share Posted April 29, 2009 Hi - Currently on the Star. The Captain came over about an hour ago saying that due to the info from the CDC, they have decided to cancel the stops in Mexico. They will make a service call to Ensenada to comply with the PSA. He said we will be stopping in some California ports and rumor is that will be San Diego, LA and Catalina. We should know tomorrow. As you can imagine, lots or grumbling and gossip. For our group, we are fine with just having a good time on the ship. BTW - this is the hardest bed we have ever had!!!!

J&KCruisers Posted April 29, 2009 #10 Share Posted April 29, 2009 Wow! The change for the Star and those ports is a fun itinerary. We have been on "mystery" cruises in the Caribbean due to weather. The stops in California will be really good for the economys of those cities. Turning a negative into a positive is a good thing for those on the Star right now. Sea Hag Posted April 29, 2009 #11 Share Posted April 29, 2009 Wow! I've been wondering about what they'd do.
Bucky3 Posted April 29, 2009 #12 Share Posted April 29, 2009 Thanks for the update! Sounds like under the circumstances Princess did the right thing, and personally we'd be really happy with that itinerary! Now I wish we'd booked that cruise! Who knows, maybe it will be a big hit and Princess will add that itinerary to its West Coast cruise schedule! Now if they could just put Monterey in there! Hope the grumbling stops, the weather warms, and you all have a fantastic crusie!
tbears Posted April 29, 2009 #13 Share Posted April 29, 2009 Thanks for the update! My parents and my aunt & uncle are on that cruise. They've already been to Mexico so this will be a nice change for my parents who have never been to these cities. Now they can have phone contact with me when they get to the ports also! pegpowell Posted April 29, 2009 #14 Share Posted April 29, 2009 The one thing that might be happening is a big sale on souvenir sweatshirts in each port. I doubt if many people packed for the cooler weather.
SFParrtHd Posted April 29, 2009 Author #15 Share Posted April 29, 2009 Well I am sitting here in the Internet Cafe listening to all the people moan and groan. One lady said she wants to go back to SF right now and get 3/4 of her $ back. One guy went to Passengers Services and said he wanted $1000 back RIGHT NOW. This is not what he signed up for. I am sitting here laughing with one of the cruise staff. Other than now, I have not heard too much grumbling. It is what it is and I am still lucky to be on a cruise. I will tell Larry and Ginger hi from you all and thanks for the good wishes! My FINS are still UP!

blindrid Posted April 29, 2009 #17 Share Posted April 29, 2009 wow thats a upgrade cruise if you ask me!!!! Not sure why would think the change is an upgrade as it certainly is not. Regardless, the only thing I would really miss would be the warm weather as I'm sure I would not have packed for those stops. You're really between a rock and a hard spot as with those stops, my reaction would be to stay on the ship but the weather may not be conducive to vegging by the pool. Good luck and have fun as any cruise is a good cruise.

You just know that if Princess had proceeded to stop in Mexico, and if they had contracted the flu, these are the same people who would be running to their lawyers directly from the dock, sick or not, to start a lawsuit. Good luck and have fun as any cruise is a good cruise. We took the Star from SA to San Francisco--we found the weather not to be as warm as we would have liked as far as the pool was concerned--and 2 rough days after Cabo--really windy Buy a sweatshirt--I bought one in the shop white zip-up with orange lettering--it had been lowered in price a couple of times by then--as you know orange and white looks great with everything there is always the covered pool or the Casino--Casino was NOT my friend. Have fun--buy art you don't need--got to get that champagne Safe Travels Nancy:D

Great attitude - I am happy to hear some people recognize everyone is in unchartered waters and doing the best they can. :D I feel for the crew they will hear a lot of complaining and some people will probably use the itinerary change as an opportunity not to tip. :(
