NC&KY Posted May 3, 2009 #1 Share Posted May 3, 2009 I have little doubt this subject has been covered in previous threads, but I've searched as many ways as I can, and I cannot find a discussion. Can someone tell me whether I should eat dinner at La Veranda on the Voyager, or if I should just stick to the other 3 restaurants in the evenings? giustot Posted May 3, 2009 #2 Share Posted May 3, 2009 La Veranda is an excellent restaurant for dinner. We usually dine there once per cruise. It's also a great place if you want to eat in less time than the two hours or more it takes in the other three restaurants. Tom.
OrpingtonT Posted May 3, 2009 #3 Share Posted May 3, 2009 La Veranda is an excellent restaurant for dinner. I agree. I enjoy La Veranda very much.
Travelcat2 Posted May 3, 2009 #4 Share Posted May 3, 2009 There seems to be a consensus of opinion here. We always make a point to dine on evening in La Veranda. It is unique and enjoyable!
Goofyisme Posted May 3, 2009 #5 Share Posted May 3, 2009 La Veranda is an excellent option for dinner. For us it all depends what's on the menu at Compass Rose and La Veranda, and what sort of mood we are in (long vs shorter dining time and more formal vs more casual). Always nice to have 2 good options (three if you count room service) without the need for a reservation. Can't make a wrong choice.
Wendy The Wanderer Posted May 3, 2009 #6 Share Posted May 3, 2009 I don't think there are any "shoulds" on Voyager ;) . La Veranda is nice for a somewhat more casual evening. The meal is usually very good, but a bit more relaxed in presentation, and can be quicker as well. Good place for a night when you just don't feel up to all the hoopla of Compass Rose. bennett2005 Posted May 3, 2009 #7 Share Posted May 3, 2009 If the ship is going through some exceptional scenic area La Veranda is an excellent choice as you have some great views from that area. We did it in the Chilian fjords and going up the river to Bordeaux and it was exceptional.
NC&KY Posted May 3, 2009 Author #8 Share Posted May 3, 2009 Excellent. Thanks very much. Nice to see such a unanimity of opinion. No question now that we'll be there at least once.
doc47 Posted May 5, 2009 #9 Share Posted May 5, 2009 You will never go wrong with La Veranda. It is a great alternative on formal nights if you don't want to dress up. It is also great if you are sailing in a place and at a time of year where the sun is setting during your meal.
poss Posted May 5, 2009 #10 Share Posted May 5, 2009 I agree with everything that's been said. And want to add that we enjoyed the lobster in Veranda better than in the other restaurants. (We're not so much meat eaters; usually go for the fish/seafood.) We like all seafood sort of "undercooked" (we don't think it's undercooked, of course; we think it's right that way.) Veranda seemed to get it right for us most often, i.e. never once tough or overcooked. Also: for folks who enjoy smorgasbord kind of eating, Veranda lets you do a lot of picking and choosing: a little of this, a little (or lot!) of that: The salad course (usually good variety) and if I'm remembering correctly the desserts as well are all pick and choose. We enjoyed that restaurant very much. (Enjoyed them all very much, including Lattitudes, which suspect was probably more to our taste than Prime 7 might be; but looking forward to trying that too.) Rare RachelG Posted September 8, 2009 #12 Share Posted September 8, 2009 La Veranda is CCC all the time. So you can dine there without tux or suit on formal nights. But you will need suit or tux if you go to the casino or bar before or after (though after dinner, the coats tend to get shed in the bar).
MICone Posted September 8, 2009 #13 Share Posted September 8, 2009 Try them all- you have nothing to lose and will likely be pleasantly surprised
San Jose King Posted September 9, 2009 #14 Share Posted September 9, 2009 Whatever you do, do not miss out on Prime 7. The meals were the best we had on our last cruise, (completed last week). You are promised at least one reservation per week and if you keep checking you may be able to grab a cancelation.
shua22 Posted September 9, 2009 #15 Share Posted September 9, 2009 Ate in La Veranda 3 nights out of 10 last week. I think it's great.
alidor Posted September 9, 2009 #16 Share Posted September 9, 2009 On a 7 night Baltic cruise, we ate dinner in the Verandah twice. We loved the salad bar aspect of it and the regional specialities offered and the views. We thought the service in the Compass Restaurant was iffy at times and overall the Verandah was a much more casual but enjoyable experience. juezruth Posted September 13, 2009 #17 Share Posted September 13, 2009 We just returned from the 10 day Baltic cruise and ate at La Veranda twice for dinner, every day for lunch when not on an excursion and daily for breakfast. While on the cruise the dinner menu changed and the choices were completely different -- all were excellent. I am not a big pasta person but the options were plentiful and delicious. The buffet for appetizers could have been an entire meal...with great variety and consistent quality. One evening it was so crowded we could not get a table for half an hour so we decided to "settle" for COmpass Rose. The wait staff is terrific at La Veranda and the atmosphere is so relaxed. Loved it!
