picklebongo Posted August 20, 2012 #1 Share Posted August 20, 2012 In the past six months, has anyone here been invited to sit at the Captain's table? If so, do you have any idea why you were chosen and what was the experience like?

I thought sitting at the Captain's Table involved receiving a special invite hand delivered to ones cabin. I also thought it meant actually dining WITH the captain and perhaps being served special tidbits other diners don't receive. Is this not true or perhaps there have been changes? It's obvious I have not done this before, but are you telling me sitting at the Captain's Table simply means it's a long table with just the name but no Captain there? That's a tadbit strange wouldn't you say?
LRene Posted August 20, 2012 #5 Share Posted August 20, 2012 We've been assigned to the Captain's table before and been situated near it in several dining rooms and I've never seen the Captain dine in there. I have seen the Captain at his table in the Cucina on the Magic.
firefly333 Posted August 20, 2012 #6 Share Posted August 20, 2012 Its actually round, not a long table. Its so big we couldnt talk across the table. I have not had the invite.. though I think LHP got invited, but she is diamond. I see the above poster got invited as milestone last fall .. before diamond was started. Id say it has to do with who has the most cruises from posts I have read.

Not true, we were 2 tables from the captain's table on the last Spirit cruise and he was there twice during the 9-day cruise, one time with a bunch of folks that weren't introduced, but once with all the 'employees of the month', and they were introduced, boy did they look nervous! That's a tadbit strange wouldn't you say? Picklebongo: What Firefly might be describing to is a particular table on the Fantasy-class vessels. It's table #300 in the aft dining room, and is often referred to as The Captain's Table (as it is the largest in the dining room, and was, at one time regularly used for that purpose). It was explained to me by multiple staff that when these particular ships went from week-long itineraries to shorter ones, the Captain/officers rarely used it for their evening dining with select passengers. I've been assigned to this table on three separate occasions (once with my pals Tom-n-Cheryl) and never once was a ship officer present. I've also been assigned to a neighboring table, and also have never seen an officers at #300 during those times as well. . .

Georgiagolfer Posted August 20, 2012 #16 Share Posted August 20, 2012 DW and I have not been invited to sit at the Captains table, nor have we ever seen the captain or any officer sitting at dinner. Frankly, doesn't interest us one iota.
kathisu Posted August 20, 2012 #17 Share Posted August 20, 2012 I was invited to dine with the captain on Celebrity last December. My DH and I had a great time. The captain was there, and was very entertaining. We met for drinks in one of the lounges, and then were escorted as a group to our table. Complimentary drinks, great conversation and complimentary 8 x 10 table photo as well. It is a wonderful experience to do once in a lifetime. Have never been invited on Carnival, though. rferr Posted August 20, 2012 #20 Share Posted August 20, 2012 I remember the last time I ate with the Captain. Merrill Stubing was the Captain of the Pacific Princess at the time and he dined with us at the Captain's Table. He was very distracted though cause he had his eye on a passenger that looked amazingly like Susan St. James, but she was a librarian from Dubuque. What a similarity though. Julie McCoy was the cruise director and she was her perky self, setting up some shuffleboard matches for the next day. The bartender, Isaac, made us some great Pina Coladas and the head pursuer, Gopher was up to his old hi jinks. The Ship's doctor was frisky and made a pass at my wife which I did not appreciate. There were some other passengers there as well, one who looked remarkably like Betty White and another who was a dead ringer for Buddy Hackett and he was a real cut up. We had a great time.... SkyMaster Posted August 20, 2012 #24 Share Posted August 20, 2012 The lovely Mrs. Jones and I have dined with the Captain aboard Celebrity "Century" twice. Yes, he was there, and yes, it was very entertaining, and informative. We had a GREAT time. I'm kind of looking forward to my next cruise, which will be in just two weeks, aboard "Paradise". We are "Diamond", and are anxious to see if we get invited to dine with the Captain, and if he'll actually be there? ;) Should be interesting. I'll let y'all know. Chip1 Posted August 20, 2012 #25 Share Posted August 20, 2012 On the April 29, 2001 sailing of the Paradise I received a free upgrade from a oceanview on deck 1 to a category 12 cabin (U114). On the first formal night I received an invitation to eat at the Captain's Table.
