Wilma - Cat 5

Yikes, I hope everything goes well on everyone's cruises this week. I'm sure there will be intinerary changes, have a good time in spite of it all. More importantly go on your cruise with an open mind and perhaps a good sense of humor wouldn;t hurt either.

Try living where I do. Just got off a two week and am about to take a five day cruise with my mom. Problem is that we live in the bullseye and I would take missing a week of vacation over the impending storm anyday. We are still not recovered from Charley.

People who do not live here in Fla. do not understand what all floridans have gone thru since last year,,as our governor said this morning "why us", think that says it all....here's hoping for the best.....

It's an emotional drain for everyone...from the gov to the disaster planners, the cops, firemen, and each floridian. We are so tired of putting up shutters, taking them down, dragging in everything from outside, replanting trees and shrubs, going without electricity, worrying about food in our freezers, eating out of cans, replacing our roofs, cleaning up after each "hit", freezing ice only to watch it melt in a day, buying water and more water and more water.....and then feeling guilty complaining about our "problems" when others may have got it worse. We sure don't want Wilma heading our way, but how can we wish it on the golf coast!!??? It's a no win situation.

Soooooooooo here we go again! Hope you all come thru this one safe and sound.

bananavan, Punta Gorda here too. Trying to decide whether to leave or ride it out. Water scares me more than wind, and they are saying it will be moving so fast as to be little storm surge. However, we just got our roof, cage and pool repaired.:(

I don't know if you remember a weather forecaster down here who used to say if you want to know where the safest place to go before a hurricane is, pick the spot where the forecasters predict it will make landfall about 4 days before. Go there. They are usually wrong.;)

Good luck.

Yikes, like the weather in North Bay... and the dark gloomy rainy days we get for two weeks at a time seem like paradise as well. I'm never complaining about our weather again, very lucky compared to many. Hopefully this B.... will get downgraded before it hits land.

Hi Everyone !

Yes, its another very stressful for time for all of us in Florida. It is wait and worry time. Of course, we have no idea if we will get hit with Wilma or not, but the memories from last year are much too vivid, to be thinking about more Hurricanes here.

Lets all hope that somehow, this storm lessens and/or moves elsewhere. My sincere best wishes to all of us who live in this area. Please take precautions and stay safe.

I agree with my neighbors from Punta Gorda, we have not yet recovered from Charley. Right now, they really dont have too much to say where it will hit land; they will know more tomorrow morning after the plane does the research. There is not too much we can do about it but be prepared to run like hell with all our valuables, jewelry, pets, cruise documents (l0l)etc.

We are staying in Fort Myers if it is a category 3 but anything higher than that and my son is loading us up in his motorhome and taking off. The only problem with that is, you really dont know where to go because you could just be running into its path. Right now the sun is shining and its a beautiful evening in North Fort Myers even tho we had a thunder shower about an hour ago. At least, if we are out of electricity for 5 days like last time, the temperature will not be as hot this time of year. It will be a miracle if this one doesnt hit the southwest Florida coast.

Mafig, we are already first on the list for the pool cage replacement. (It is promised for next week.:D )

As soon as the painters finish painting the outside of the house tomorrow, we can put the shutters up again. WE just took them down last week for the painters.

We have hotel reservations for the Jacksonville area and will leave early Friday morning. I am glad that I made them this morning because by this afternoon our friends were unable to get into the same hotel.

Oh well, c'est la vie en paradise. Like some of our neighbors though, this is certainly getting OLD.

God Bless everyone in the path.

Just bought a house in Florida, not Punta Gorda, but Florida nevertheless. It is not built yet, so for now I have nothing to worry about, so all of you be safe, get out before its to late. I have friends in Mississippi who were displaced for about a month, they are home, thankfully their house survived with about $10,000.00 worth of damage. Unfortunatley they have no jobs as they worked at the casino, who knows when they will work again. Just because some of us are not from Florida or the Gulf Coast, we feel your pain and are here to help in any way we can. Our prayers are with all of you. Take care and Stay safe.

Thank you for your concern.

Last year we put 5,000 miles on the car getting away from storms. (OK, one of the trips was to Indianapolis to see our son, but technically we WERE fleeing a hurricane. :D )

We are trying to act calm although if we were to get another direct hit, I know that we would go back to the snow and grey skies.

Yabba dabba doom? Fuggedaboutit My mom lives on the Martin/PB Cty line, I told her on Monday to get her head the heck out of the sand...

Did you know there is a concrete shortage in the US? My parents have been waiting for their new roof since finally settling with the insurance company in April! Now my parents are happy the tiles for their new roof are still not available

God Bless all you Floridians...

Just went to the store tonight to get some things (and some hurricane stuff just in case) and it looked like it had already hit. The canned food/fruit/pasta aisle was bare, there were about 15 loaves of bread (its a SuperWalmart with a whole aisle usually full), water aisle empty (they were restocking when we got there) tuna, canned ham, spam, all empty.

We had most of the things we need, but wanted to get some more water just in case. Good luck to all on the Gulf Coast.

the Gulf Coast get the hurricanes. That is the way God planned it & if you don't like it, MOVE! I cannot picture the insurance costs. Up here we don't want any added to ours. W Coast with floods, eathquakes & wildfires & all they need is a tsunami! A tornado hits but not NE Ohio, we get a tremor from a quake in Lake Erie but feels like a truck driving down the road. So move here, we are lucky...........

If you are in Jax, give us a call and maybe we can get together. If you lost my #, email me and I'll give it to you. By the way, did you see what our friend said?????

WE thank all for the concern. Thanks Esther, I appreciate the offer.

As for the other comments which are not supportive, Karma baby Karma.

Some folks just have to comment on EVERYTHING even when they bring nothing to the interraction. We had a fellow at our table just like that on the Canada/New England last month.

Hey, it is all fun and games and then somebody pokes their eye out. We did not mock when Cleveland/Lake Erie caught fire.

From where do you expect to depart on your next cruise? Florida is out, California is out. The Northern Gulf is out. The Canadian dollar is now really expensive. HMMMMMMMMMMMM Seems to me that YOU need us, more than WE need you. Looks like you want us to rebuild, so stop fretting over the insurance costs.

I would love to stay and chat but I have to put on my Sherlock Holmes outfit and go out and fight customer service reps and inspect ships for bodily fluids. Then I have to dress my table. So much to do, so little time.

I hope that all who are vacationing this upcoming week enjoy themselves and that the seas are not too rocky.

God bless all of us.

Every time I read your signature line, the same thought comes to me: God forbid.
