Hello,

Looking for thoughts or suggestions for pre-cruise hotel in Boston. I have narrowed it down to Courtyard by Marriott Boston Logan Airport & Townplace Suites Boston Logan Airport. Both are reasonable in price. Wondering about distance to cruise port is Townplace Suites that much further?

Thanks for any input...

They are both essentially airport hotels. It appears both are a similar distance from the Cruiseport. However they are both Marriott properties. Basically they are relatively isolated properties that you would shuttle to and just stay in your room. How much would you be paying for these hotels?

What is your hotel budget? What is your exact date? What time does your flight arrive? Are you planning to sightsee in Boston? Two people? Can you manage your luggage to take the T for free to the Cruiseport?

We will be arriving around 3pm on Saturday October 24. My mother and I. There is no way she can haul her luggage. We will have to take a taxi to the cruise port. Was thinking of maybe if time permits checking out the aquarium. Any prices I seen were well over $350. I really didn't want to spend over $250. Allows for money to be spent on cruise excursions and such. Not to mention my mother cannot walk far distances so regardless we would have to take a taxi.

Both of those hotels are relatively close by each other, by the airport. One thing to note, there is really nothing else in the area (food wise) walking distance. You would be relying on the hotel shuttle.

If you are looking for Marriott properties near the port, the Renaissance and the Residence Inn are both in the Seaport area.

If you arrive at 3 pm, the Aquarium closes at 5 pm, so that's not going to work.

There's a great deal on Hotwire right now. 5* Theater District hotel for $199 ($246 with taxes). My guess it is the Taj near Boston Common.

The is also a 4* Waterfront/Convention Center Hotel for $250 ($313 with tax) that is likely to be the Westin. $25 cab from the airport and under $10 to the Cruiseport.

Both these offerings would be super choices with in tiwners options. If you stay in the hotels you mentioned, you will really be stuck for dinner options and they will have zero ambiance.

Do either of the two airport hotels mentioned have any sort of parking deals for the week? This would be for flying to a land vacation, not cruise.

Holiday Inn in Saugus is on Trinityreservations.com for $158 tax included with breakfast and 14 days parking. Where are you coming in from?

Thanks for the reply's. I am going to stick with the Townplace Suites. At least they have a continental breakfast of some sort for the morning. Coming from Canada and the dollar is so low right now I hate to spend $300+US on one nights accommodation. As for sightseeing its no big deal if we do something or we don't. We will be on a 13 day cruise to get in tons of sights.

Just know that there is nothing near the Townplace Suites. It is across the street from the airport employee parking garage. Its an extreme industrial area. I'm kinda surprised they built a hotel there. On that note, its only a year or two old.

I'll be in the vicinity of that hotel for business next week. I'll take a look and see if I see any food options, but I've never found anything.

What are you actually paying TAX INCLUDED for this room? It looks like they offer King beds with or without a sofa bed. Is that the bed arrangement you envisioned with your mom?

Did you look at the Best Western Adams in Quincy? They have an airport shuttle and a Cruiseport shuttle and I'm betting their room rate is less than Townplace Suites as well. The hotel itself will not be as new, but if you're into trimming your budget, it's worth a look.

Staying at the Taj for 2 nights in September before a cruise, using points..is this a good choice??

Thanks,

Jancruz1

Absolutely a good choice. It's in downtown Boston near the Common with access to restaurants, transportation and tourist sights.

The OP is planning to stay in a nice hotel in a sketchy area with no restaurants, transportation, and tourist sights.

We used Old Town Trolley HOHO with a 2 day pass. It was great because it hit all of the sights and we able to get off and see what we wanted to for as long as we wanted to. http://www.trolleytours.com/boston/

There is also City View Trolley HOHO which currently has a groupon. https://www.groupon.com/deals/cityview-trolley-tours-3?utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=us_dt_sea_ggl_txt_ttt_sr_cbp_ch1_nbr_k*boston%20trolley%20tours_m*e_d*worcester-rtc-kwservice_g*rtc-kwservice-cityview-trolley-tours-3-exact_c*85009629281_ap*1t2

I am originally from the Boston area, so I am familiar with the areas people are talking about, however, it's been 10+ years since I've lived there and I have a question.

I am escorting a semi-large group on the Dawn on 10/23 and we needed a pre-cruise hotel. I choose the Comfort Inn on Morrisey Blvd because it offered a free airport shuttle, free breakfast and free parking for the cruise for those that are driving.

I'm not concerned about sight seeing, as we've arranged for a private guided tour for our only full day in Boston, however, I am starting to get concerned that maybe this was not a wise choice for safety reasons.

Most of the travelers are retired veterans on fixed incomes and when I first started researching EVERYTHING in the Boston area was $250+ before tax. For obvious reasons, I cannot use any of the last minute booking sites, so rack rate was my only option. Am I being concerned about things that I don't really need to worry about?

Thanks 1025Cruise for taking a look.

I have been still looking at other options and everything is well over $350US.

Have never done Hotwire etc.. With my "good luck" it would be a disaster to start my vacation off with.

Thanks for everyone's input and suggestions.

Thanks 138east Carol.

Just checked out Best Western Adams Quincy. Seems to offer a little more "entertainment" than the other 2 I had chosen. I never really thought of staying south...

Thanks again for the suggestion.

Honestly given your group, you don't have a lot of choices. You've covered all the bases for your group - airport transportation, free breakfast, and free parking. The nearby Ramada has a bowling alley, food and a family fun center. You might want to research the dinner options in the area for your group. I spent the evening at the bowling alley once and did not find the area threatening. I feel much more uncomfortable in Chelsea and Revere, which is where the other hotels discussed on this thread are located.

Thanks Carol. Most people are only staying 1 or 2 nights and there is a Subway and Dunkin' Donuts, as well as a grocery store within easy walking distance to the hotel. The Comfort Inn and Ramada are owned by the same people, but the Comfort Inn has been recently renovated and recommended over the Ramada by the Sales Manager for both hotels, that's why I chose the Comfort Inn.
