kayred Posted February 4, 2016 #4 Share Posted February 4, 2016 Wonderful site. Thank you. I have 4 months 14 days and 8 hours till my cruise starts (not that I am counting.) I booked my cruise exactly one year in advance and I have really enjoyed learning about Alaska and our ports. To me planning, learning and anticipating the trip is a lot of fun. Thanks! raider23 Posted February 4, 2016 #5 Share Posted February 4, 2016 Thanks for posting this link. I have been downloading maps and info for ports we are visiting, but didn't even think about info on Glacier Bay. :D

Cornishpastyman1 Posted February 5, 2016 #8 Share Posted February 5, 2016 This is what we saw in July 2014. You will have a very detailed map of the whole route, in addition to the on-board commentary and the services of the rangers so you won't miss anything. Budget Queen Posted February 5, 2016 #9 Share Posted February 5, 2016 This National Park site, is also "necessary" for more, up to date information on other areas as well. I refer all the time to this in Denali, also Kenai Fjords, Skagway, Sitka, etc etc etc Alaska State Parks has some awesome trails, Tongass Forest Service- Mendenhall Glacier A LOT of information out there. If your ship goes to Glacier Bay, you should be getting the brochure in your cabin the night prior. This has an informative map. A common wrong assumption I find, is the pick up time of the Rangers, from Bartlett Cove, some think that's when they'll see glaciers. BUT, it won't be for about another 3 hours- with the views on the port side. That hour after Bartlett is wildlife heavy. So if of interest, plan on being out all day. :) I see many people, out for a few minutes, ask where the "glacier" is, then run back in. :)

generichandle Posted February 6, 2016 #12 Share Posted February 6, 2016 I have said in another thread, "if there were no glaciers in Glacier Bay", it would still be one of the prime 'must sees' in Alaska. Wildlife in abundance at entry & exit, and the landforms themselves border in surreal, so much beauty. Do not give up Alaska exploration without this site.
