No more balcony smoking on Carnival

Recommended Posts

Due to the smoking policy changing on CCL, I am now moving my cruising addiction business over to NCL. I have always been a courteous smoker no matter where I am at, so if you are on a balcony next to me, I am approachable:D.

I have also read of the great casino perks the NCL offers, which is a bonus since we love to spend lots of time in the casino:eek:.

I am sure that other CCL smokers will also be coming this way.

Thanks to the poster on the CCL board that said "COME ON OVER TO NCL"...

Here I am and thanks for the invite:D

CAS (casino at seas) is great on NCL, with many perks. After your first cruise, call them for rates and deals. When you are a CAS guest there is usually a cocktail party prior to casino opening, and you will get a drink card in your room:). Once we recieved free cruise for Carnival, but we wouldn't use it cuz of no drink card:(. Thats the best perk for us

Safe sailing

Enjoy it while you can. NCL will follow the rest of the cruise industry and ban balcony smoking sooner or later. Most likely sooner.

Exactly...there are many people that have approached Norwegian corporate and pushed for a change on the policy.

Hopefully NCL will be smart enough not to change the current policy. They just picked up 1000s of new former CCL passengers. There are lots of options for those who want to totally avoid smokers on many cruise lines. Clearly NCL will not be the first choice for the smoke haters but an oasis for smokers and those that don't mind.

Sooner or later not only will NCL ban balcony smoking, but all cruise lines will be 100% smoke free. I'm an not saying it is even in the planning stages at this point, just that eventually it will come to pass. Get ready for it, cause it will be here sooner or later.

I don't care who smokes where! I'm usually in a forward suite and sail only once a year and I have never smelled any smoke upfront!! All I can say is, if you want to smoke, be courteous! If you don't smoke, be courteous as well! We are all adults who (hopefully) make educated choices.

But welcome to NCL! I was hooked after my first cruise!! And have no plans on leaving!!

If NCL is going to become the cruiseline for smokers, unfortunately they will lose a lot of the nonsmokers. If my next cruise on the Gem is as smoky as the last one on the BA, I'm out. I can deal with some smoke but being two balconies down from a chain smoker AND a cigar smoker is too much! I'm hoping that was a fluke and it won't be so bad this time. I love NCL and would hate to leave because of the smoking, but I will if this cruise is too smoky.

What the cruise lines do individually with regards to their smoking policies is only based on one thing. (How they feel it will effect the bottom line with regards to bookings)

I was reading an article the other day in a business publication (sorry don't remember where) and it was discussing some of cruise lines and whether or not they had the ability to raise some of their prices. Carnival is apparently in a position right now where they can actually do that. NCL it was stated..not so much. Not sure why that is however. (Maybe based on advanced bookings and rates that they are filling the ships? but I really don't know)

Based on that I don't think NCL will be changing their smoking policies very soon. I would at least think they would wait long enough to see if they can get increased bookings from those coming from Royal and now Carnival who would like the freedom of having a cigarette on their balconies. If they get increased bookings as a result...they may never change it..If they don't it will be at least several months (or more) before they know.

Cigar smoking is not allowed on balconies. If that happens again knock on their door and remind them of that rule and ask that they stop. If they don't, go to guest services and talk to them about it.

It certainly hasnt hurt RCCL at all ... they are consistently higher priced than NCL!

That's what I thought too, but when I called to guest services, they told me that cigar smoking isn't banned on balconies.:(
