Fair amount to put on a S and S card for 18yo?

Normally in the past, I just put my c/c on my 18yo daughters account and of course mine.

Last cruise I noticed lots of activity in the game room thus to much spending on her card.

Anyway, What would be a far amount of cash to put on her card ?

Its an 8nt cruise actually

Im thinking 150

Your thoughts please......

If she gets the bottomless bubbles package from you I think more like $25 per day for a total of $200 and she is responsible for her own entertainment on the ship and in the gift shop.

Ok Im willing to give the bottomless bubbles package but were not soda drinkers thankfully.

200 sounds reasonable though

She will also be able to gamble, so definitely set some ground rules. I think $200 is reasonable. But once that is gone, there will be no more.

THanks.... didnt even think about the gambling!

There will definitely be a $200 MAX cap!

Does that amount include gratuities or are those prepaid?

Different parenting styles, different kids. The jobs that we had in HS/college, that were for kids, are now supporting families. Jobs that used to be there are gone---low end office such as filing, mail, secretarial are gone thanks to technology.

If an 18year old is in college then I want them to concentrate on their studies and not worry about earning extra money. That is just my style sooo if I took my college student child on a cruise I'd pay for the onboard account too. I'd sit down with them and discuss what they'd like to do on board and come up with an amount that would allow some fun each day. My husband and I spend very little on board so I think for both of us on a 7 day cruise we only spend about $200 without counting tips. IF your spending style is different then your child's spending style will probably be more like you than like us. $200 seems like a lot to me for extras for one person.

Something my DH and I learned the hard way was putting the full amount on our DDs cards at the beginning of the cruise. It was a 5 day cruise, we said this $75 dollars each is for a special T shirt, video games, etc and should last you all cruise. My DDs said yes they understood. Less than an hour later, my youngest DD (12) had swiped her card repeatedly at the arcade because the game wasn't working right and went through all $75.

I know your child is much older, but there is the option of putting half on at the beginning of the cruise and half later. Our last cruise we put a daily amount on the card, granted it took a little time waiting in line for guest services. And I didn't even think about gambling...ouch!

thanks for the respones. I think im going to put $150 on her card. Should be enough since its just her and I. Previous cruises, her cousins and family were with us. Plus, we dont drink soda

Remember, you can always add cash and if she doesn't use it all you'll get a check back. If she doesn't drink soda, not going to use the spa, or use the casino that much $150 should be generous enough. If you're going to use a card you can just go to the guest desk and raise the limit. But don't tell her that ;)

ou may want to sit down with her and elide what she plans to spend money on (spa, drinks, speciality coffees or food, gift shops, casino, arcade, excursions...) and then decide from there. $50 may be plenty but she may need $400.

I don't know your daughter so I can't really say. But when took my daughter at the time about 20, I just shot down my Credit Card because I knew she wouldn't go silly [she was working at the time, but daddy was spoiling her with a cruise].

However I have known others of that age range that I'd put down maybe $50 and make them produce their sign slips, so I could see what they were spending it on, before I topped it up.

I used to put the CC on the S & S card for her. But, I did see to much spending in the video room last cruise. So, to end future abuse- the card gets a capped amount.
