Too much smoke in Casinos

Please allow me to state that I do NOT like or enjoy cigarette smoke.

I especially find the ship casinos very smoking. I am not really a gambler, but would like to play a roll of quarters on occasion or watch my husband play.

However after our last few trips, i smelled so bad after only 15 minutes in the casinos I left and I don't plan to return.

There have been times when our ship did have a smoke-free evening, but the casinos still smell so bad:eek:

And it always happens that a smoker sits next to me waving their cigarette in my face.

So, is it only me that is bothered by the smoke or are others dissuaded to go into the casinos, too? I was really just wondering?

I do not enjoy the smell either....BUT.......I do not go to the smoking section in the Casino either. Yes, I can still smell it at times, but it does not bother me that much.

Things have changed soooo much over the past couple of years, and not that I am sticking up for the smokers, but it has gotten to the point where they have very few places to smoke now.

I remember the days that you were allowed to smoke in the grocery stores, movie theaters, restaurants, bars, SCHOOL...on and on. So, in comparison, I think there have been major changes and very happy with them. :) I say, let them have the one or two places on a ship...but that is just me. :) HAPPY SUNDAY EVERYONE. :)

I agree with everything stated so far.

Yes it does get very smokey some-times carried over to non smoking zones.

And yes they have taken alot of places away over the years from smokers.

But,

Smoke free for me almost 5 years, and never looking back.:D

Hi Sal, try going when the Casino first opens and it surely won't be as bad as when it gets more populated with more folks that are smoking.

Thanks - I never thought to do that. I will give that a try.

I do save money when I don't go in ;)

Yes, I know it is a smoking area - and it is what it is.

Formal nights on many ships were designated as "no smoking" nights in the Casino. This was an excellent compromise as it allowed me at least 2 nights to sit at a slot machine without smoke wafting in my face. Yes, I know there is a no smoking section, but none of the machines I enjoy playing are there :(

I think a few ships still do this, but none I have sailed on recently....

As far as I can tell, no smoking nights in the casino went away when balcony smoking was prohibited.

We walk the deck to avoid going in the smoky casino. Worse are those who smoke on their balcony. There should be balcony/cabin cigarette smoke detectors that alert ship security and fines should be imposed. Second offense and off the ship.

There are smoke detectors in the cabins, on the balcony this would hardly work.

The problem is that, in our experience, at least, many smokers go into the casino merely to smoke and not to gamble. They are there even before the machines and tables are open and smoke doesn't observe artificial and arbitrary boundaries between smoking and non-smoking areas.

They all flooded the casino. No not the gamblers but the smokers. Back from the Serenade TA with rough and cold weather, the captain closed the outer decks (5 and 12) for all passengers for a couple of consecutive days ; deck 11 was too cold - so all smokers had their meet and mingle with "joint" pow wow smoking in the casino. :D

During these smoke-outs we avoided the casino and saved big on bucks:)

The casinos stink 24/7. When they aren't filled with smoke from people they still smell like ashtrays. Disgusting.

Yep. The worst I've smelled was Brilliance on boarding day. I can't remember other ships being that bad.

Man! I forgot about the nasty, disgusting cigarette smoke!!

I was just saying yesterday how I can't wait to go on our cruise in 93 days!! And I can't wait to go to the casino- the only time I gamble is on the cruise ship.

We have been on cruises where the casino was so nasty that we were not able to gamble at all and then we have been on others where there was no smoking in the casino (I think that was celebrity).

I think that smokers should have to wear a head contraption that keeps their smoke to themselves- something that looks like a space helmet....

On a serious note- I really could care less if someone smokes or not but it does bother me that their nasty habit inhibits me from enjoying all areas of the ship.

I'm all for pushing for a larger or even separate "non-smoking" side of the casino. However, there are CLEARLY enough smokers willing to spend money in the casino to make it worth RCL's time. It's apparently worth it to endure the numerous concerns of other cruisers who prefer to avoid the casino. I appreciate the OPs concern - but I have a feeling that the complaints might be fruitless. I've been told by bartenders aboard ship that the "smokers gamble more." It's probably about the money.

(PS - as you can see - the smoke doesn't bother me or my screen name would be quite different.)

UGH! Does anyone know of a smoke free cruise line? Just curious.....:)

I am not sure if there are any ships that are 100% smoke free.

I thought for sure Disney would be, but I am told they have designated smoking areas as well.

Oceania is about as close as you will get to "smoke free" with only one indoor glass smoking enclosure and one outdoor pool adjacent corner designated for smoking.

Fortunately, due to passenger input, even "vaping" has the same restrictions.

My DS lives in Vegas and loves to gamble (bad combo but that us for another forum :D) as do I, but I can live without it. When I was a smoker and I would visit her, I was always as polite as possible with my smoking around her, or so I thought.

20 some years later as a non smoker, my DS, our parents (smoke free for over 40 years) and I went to a casino for dinner. We opened the door and was hit with a wall of smoke. I was gagging it was so strong. I looked at my DS and our parents and I apologized for every time I took them someplace that allowed smoking!! It was a huge wake up call...

On our last cruise, my DH and I were looking for my DS & BiL. We went in the casino and I was hit with that wall of smoke, never walked in there again and we still had 6 days left :/

Smoke free for me almost 5 years, and never looking back.:D

Congrats!! My 5 yr anniversary was 2 weeks ago :D My DH took a little longer, He has been smoke free for just over 2 years

The problem of nasty BO and perfume are much easier to solve.... you can just move to another machine-

Cigarette smoke is not so easy to solve. There have been times on a cruise where my clothes have reeked so bad from being in the casino that I have to send my clothes out to be laundered just so I can get the stank out of my cabin.

UGH! Does anyone know of a smoke free cruise line? Just curious.....:)

No smoking in the casino on Celebrity.

Royal and I have an arrangement. They agree to keep people from stinking up my balcony and ships bars with cigarette smoke, and I agree to avoid the casino at all costs.

Granted the casino can be pretty difficult for non-smokers (and even some smokers) to endure, but until the smoking demographic lessens, Royal has to find a way to accommodate both crowds. I would also love to gamble some on cruises, but its just not something I could tolerate, so I just fill my time with other activities that don't put me in the smoke room. If Royal ever finds a way to have a true non-smoking casino area, or eventually transitions it to a smoke free zone I will begin to include gambling as part of my cruising agenda. Until then I can do without gambling on my cruises and I'm glad to have my balcony and bar areas smoke free that used to be really bad as well.
