Casino question

Sister in law just got back from a cruise. She spent $300 on slots in casino and then an employee told her she gets a free drink card. She was able to get the card and got free drinks at casino for the rest of the cruise! Has this ever happened to anyone else? I love slots and gamble so I could easily spend $300. Is there somewhere to get information on this?

Never believe what a gambler tells you they spent in the casino

It's 1500 points which usually translates to about that amount but it depends on your win loss as well. I get one most cruises.

The points are based on action, not win/loss, same as Vegas. Actually in Vegas, big winners are treated better than losers, they want you to stay and lose your money.

DOU (drinks on us) card is awarded on a 7 day cruise at 1500 points and on 5 day cruises at 1000 points. On the slot machines one (1) point is earned for each $2.50 played through the machine.

So if OP sister in law was on a 7 day cruise then to get the DOU card she ran $3, 750 through the machine and if 5 day $2,500. If she was only out $300 then she must have had some good wins.

Very well explained! Could you explain table games average bet $15 per hand for 4hrs. per day?

Actually, it's varies depending upon the game. Different games have different house advantages. "Traditional" blackjack (paying 3:2) with "perfect play" and craps have a house advantage of about 1.5% - it does depend upon other factors in each game that the casino can alter, but the overall casino advantage for those games is generally in that range. Roulette (with zero and double zero) has a higher house edge (just over 5%), other games (3 card poker, Let It Ride, etc…) also tend to be closer to 5% depending upon the various payout tables.

What all this means is that you generally have to bet more money at the tables for the same point accrual as the slot players as the tables are, generally, much more favorable to the player. As a matter of fact, they don't actually keep track of a table player's "points" like they do for slot players; it's all based upon the average bet amount, the number of bets an hour and the house advantage for each game. As a general rule of thumb, at the table games you have to be betting at least $25 a bet for an average of a few hours a day to earn the drinks on us card and/or free casino cruise offers. I am sure that there are people who have bet less and still earned either or both of these, but that's the general rule of thumb. Probably a longer answer than you wanted / needed.

Must had some really good wins. Because it takes a great deal more then 300 to get the ALL you can drink card. (what day of the cruise was that for her)

On my Miracle cruise, I played Poker usually from 10pm to 2am. During this time, I averaged 3 free drinks per night. No points, no nothing.

It was also nice that there were a few non-drinkers at the table and they would order drinks and give them to me. :)

Thanks all for info.I was just wondering about table games.I play three card poker for average of $25 per hand for about 4 hrs per day and some roulette for a break from poker.I have been on 76 cruises in the past 34 years, not all of them on CC.NCL,RCL and a few others and by far CC Players Club is the BEST! I get Premier and Ultra offers every 3 or 4 months.Booked on Majic 10/29 (Halloween) and Splendor 11/27 and Dream 02/19/17. All are Premier wit $500 cash back and DOU cards and other perks.Casino is my enterainment,DW does not gamble but likes to 'PEOPLE' watch in casino.I play this games ,because I don't have to think or add cards etc.It all boils down to luck and money management. There is no skill in the games I play.I get to known casino staff from day one and it helps as to what comps you will get .Thanks again for replys.Carlyle

I am curious but how much do you usually take to gamble with? First day at sea I won over 800 before noon on a Fishbowl game. My spouse likes roulette and usually does fairly well. We are booked on a 7 day cruise in Jan 2017 aboard the Glory. Not a very port intensive cruise and has 2 days at sea. Our last cruise was 7 days eastern Caribbean and was very port intensive- 10 to 12 hours per day in port. We took $2000 to gamble with and came back with $1800 so not a bad deal. However, we are trying to figure out what we should take this time since we are out to sea quite a bit. Thanks in advance!

well, yes for me this is what it usually takes. My gambling budget on slots per day is 100.00, and I usually hit 1500 points on day three of a cruise. I have however lately been spending less time in the casino, due to smoke, and don't even spend my 100 per day, therefore only got my card on day 5 last time. but yes you can get a card after 300.00 and I have done that.

As a rule,I budget $300 per day for casino.I might not play ever day in casino,so that $300 goes to next day,so I have $600 for that day if I want.Gambling is LUCK and money management! As far as drinks on us cards, when I'm playing I drink diet-coke.I was taught many years ago by a fellow cruiser that were his three rules of gambling.Rule #1,don't bet with scared money(money you could't afford to lose) Rule #2,don't drink when you gamble. Why do you think they give you free drinks.Rule # 3 and the hardest rule of all,KNOW when to walk away!UP or down, take a break, when you want to come back, some one will be there. After many years of cruiseing,I hear and see people say I won $800 the first night. If you quite and don't play any more, yes you won $800.I also hear people say " I'm only going to lose $300"I tell them Give me $150 and I've cut your loses in half.On a cruise from day one,you are up or down, until you get off the ship you can declare if you won or lost.Carlyle

Interesting. I know on Princess it takes a lot more than $300 to get 1,000 points, let alone 1,500 points!!

Of course it takes more than $300 to reach 1500 points but not all of that $300has to be out of YOUR pocket. You could start with $100 and play for hours while earning a ton of points without putting in anymore of your own money. Now you could also lose all $300 of your own money in 15 minutes and earn hardly any points.

no, you can get a free drink card with $20 if it works right. win $2 lose $2 win 2 lose 2 win 10 lose 10 win 50 lose 50 you end up even let alone spending 300.. but you get points to earn a free drink card.

its all about points, NOT how much you spend. Its every spin, even if you win your bet back, its points.

While it is all about points, what you haven't factored in is slot payout. It would be highly unlikely for people to break even. Yes, there are occasional winners but that's not average. In major land casinos, the return rate is between 80% (penny slots) and 96-98% ($5 and up slots).

Even in your scenario - you wouldn't end up even because for equal winning and losing spins, you have to win twice your money on each winning spin, otherwise, you're in hole for each losing bet.

Casino's are built to win.

Us gamblers are just hoping to be that person who is +$500 instead of the person -$700.
