flourpot Posted March 25, 2015 #1 Share Posted March 25, 2015 I'm on the Ruby right now and we had the 50th Anniversary menu on our first formal night. Between my mom and I, we ordered everything on the menu and took pictures. Don't quote me on the titles of the foods...I don't have the menu in front of me. Bonnie Duck terrine and mushroom soup with apricot preserves and brioche: Balsamic walnut salad with goat cheese/olive flat bread: Ossobucco pasta: Blueberry lemon sorbet: Malabar peppered steak with onion tart: Turbot:

shredie Posted March 25, 2015 #4 Share Posted March 25, 2015 That desert looks great but it certainly doesn't look like creme brulee! It's weird. I don't know how to describe it. That red stuff is kind of like a jellyish substance. Way too berry tasting for me. Then everyone knows I am not a big fan of the 50th menu. StLouisCruisers Posted March 25, 2015 #5 Share Posted March 25, 2015 It's not creme brule. We didn't like the 50th anniversary menu at all. Well, actually the sorbet wasn't bad.:p

Astro Flyer Posted March 26, 2015 #7 Share Posted March 26, 2015 Princess has a PDF of the menu but goofed and had the 1st page twice but have read from those who had the dinner it does not include the 2nd page of the menu. http://www.princess.com/downloads/pdf/50th-anniversary/50th-Anniversary-Menu.pdf

flourpot Posted March 26, 2015 Author #9 Share Posted March 26, 2015 Thank you for posting the photos. What did you think of the food? I'm not sure I will be a fan of this menu. My mom and I didn't mind the menu. The duck wasn't my favorite, but the mushroom soup with it was really good. I had the ossobucco pasta and liked it. Mom had the salad and said it tasted good...like a salad. ;-) I had the beef. It tasted good. I thought the turbot looked better but the beef tasted better...very peppery. I ordered an orange soufflé for dessert and mom had the raspberry "creme brulé". It was weird that they described it as that. It was more of a mousse like a raspberry flavored Princess Love Boat Dream. The other side of the menu was the always available stuff along with a few extra items. There was a vegetarian curry and some kind of appetizer that was something like a risotto (I think?). I found the menu to be good. Based off the descriptions, I was sceptical, but was happy with what I got. :-) Bonnie

The menu was one page only. Not sure why that site shows the menu twice. Our souvenir menu: https://www.dropbox.com/home/Regal%20Patters%2012-7%20to%2012-21-14?preview=50th+Anniversary+Keepsake+Menu.pdf And, FWIW, we enjoyed at least one of the items on each course. ar1950 Posted March 27, 2015 #14 Share Posted March 27, 2015 I have to say this doesn't look that great to me. On our Regal cruise in December (it was a B2B) the food looked way better than these pictures and tasted great as well (to us). It is food, so YMMV. skrodle Posted March 27, 2015 #16 Share Posted March 27, 2015 the osso bucco ravioli is AH-MAZING (we ordered in our Suite on last cruise, other wise I would have ordered a second helping) and the raspberry creme brulee.. yeah not a creme brulee.. but one of the best desserts I have every had on princess. I will definitely order two on my upcoming cruise... its definitely not a menu for everyone and I think they could have picked better "classics" but to me the two above mentioned items are worth it

Coveguy4 Posted March 27, 2015 #18 Share Posted March 27, 2015 On my last cruise I went to Sabatinni's on 50th menu night, next month I may actually try it on the Ruby. Great pictures and thanks for posting.
Rare Bostonjetset Posted March 28, 2015 #19 Share Posted March 28, 2015 (edited) Wow. I have to say, from your pics, that the Ruby did not have the best presentation of this wonderful menu. We just got off the Regal and LOVED the 50th Anniv. menu. Our presentation looked much different than yours though. Hopefully you can try this on another ship before the year ends; we found it a lovely meal. My duck terrine and mushroom soup [notice how much bigger the pate is!] My beef My raspberry mousse dessert Edited March 28, 2015 by Bostonjetset
rkacruiser Posted March 28, 2015 #20 Share Posted March 28, 2015 It is interesting that the variation in presentation of the items exists from ship to ship. Too long since I have sailed on a Princess ship, but I know for sure that on a Holland America Line ship there are photos posted in the Galley as to how each dish served ought to look. I would think that the Galley on a Princess ship would have the same.

I think it is more for the waiter's benefit so he/she can recognize what has been ordered. Edited March 28, 2015 by caribill

Certainly a rather creative way to serve Osso Bucco, I think.
Quartzsite Cruiser Posted March 29, 2015 #24 Share Posted March 29, 2015 On our 49 day Ruby cruise that ended last week, we had this menu three times. It was our least favorite of any menu we've had on any of our 82 cruises. The first time, we were very impressed. The second time, we had the beef, and that was the one time my beef was cooked medium rare like I ordered instead of well done. The third time, we asked if there was a opening in the Crown Grill and ate there instead of the MDR. Overall, we did not have a really memorable meal on the cruise, which was very surprising as the Executive Chef was on board. We found the food to be bland even when labeled as spicy, and that it had almost always had way to much sauce on just about everything on the plate. Most of the desserts were good, but then it is hard to ruin chocolate!
joeyancho Posted March 29, 2015 #25 Share Posted March 29, 2015 Osso Bucco Ravioli: Where is the Osso Bucco? What I see in the photo is not what I think of as Osso Bucco. The presentation for all of the dishes looked very nice. It is inside of the ravioli. It is delicious. The turbot is very good too. The dessert is to die for. All the Norman Love desserts are fantastic. Very high end.
