How to organize a Cabin Crawl

 Share

Recommended Posts

Hi, I was wondering how someone would organize a cabin crawl. We have only attend one in the past and enjoyed this tour. Our roll call is active and we would like to participate in another one. Thanks in advance.

We organized one on our last cruise and it was alot of fun. Because our roll call was so active, I just mentioned it and those that wanted to participate just sent me their cabin number. There were several that offered their cabin but I chose one of each cabin type so it didn't get too much. After choosing the cabins, I put together an "itinerary". We left from the Meet and Mingle since we were already together. If I remember correctly there were 6 different rooms and each cabin host had a souvenir or snack to offer the participants. We had everything from a sampling of their local alcohol to a custom notepad. It was a great way to get to know everyone and get a peek at the cabins you might not otherwise get in to.

We did one on our first sea day in the morning and it really brought everyone together. Enjoy.

Just post a message on your roll call and ask who wants to do a crawl. I did one last year, we visited tons of cabins and it was a lot of fun. We left after the meet and mingle. Doing one again this year :D

great question jjtt.

I have never been on a Crawl with a M&M group. I've been on visitations and done them with travel partners.... that's different though.

So? My question is for those who's cabins you visit. Do they stay in the stateroom and welcome people? If so when do THEY get to visit the other staterooms?

Tell us more..... :-)

Organized a Poker Run/Cabin Crawl with M&M participants one cruise. We basically chose as many different cabins types as possible up to 7 cabins. Then we collected $5 from everyone and did a 7 card draw poker game. At the first cabin everyone was dealt a 7 card hand (one hand per participating cabin not person) and every cabin host served some kind of cocktail too. So, at each cabin you were dealt one card and one cocktail (nothing big just small cups). We saved the largest cabin for last and when we got there whoever had the best poker hand won the game and the pot that was collected. Of course by the last cabin and 7th cocktail we were all feeling no pain and had a good time partying. You can choose to forego the cocktail and do something else but, the poker run is a fun little touch.:D

All the people visit all the staterooms. Sometimes people miss a stateroom if they are up next so they can be in their stateroom before anyone arrives, but not always. Cabin crawls and poker runs are a lo of fun and are pretty casual. No-one gets their knickers in a knot of they have to wait a minute ot two for the occupants to arrive.

We also did a poker run which was a lot of fun. The person with the best hand got 80% of the pot and the person with the worst hand got 20%. I had planned for 25 people and we had almost 40 on the cabin crawl/poker run so print off 2X the copies of anything you need. We had a great time and everyone stayed to the last cabin.

Some people brought treats from home. We brought Crispy Crunch bars which are a Canadian thing. The Aussies brought little clip on Kangaroos and there were a few more things.

We have done several cabin crawls and all have been a lot of fun.

We have done several variations - all similar to what was already mentioned. Most of them have begun with an inside stateroom and worked their way up to a large suite (if you are fortunate enough to have someone offer to let everyone view the suite). We also had stayed in the suite afterwards for a small party - ordering room service snacks.

We also did one in conjunction with a slot pull - after finishing we went to the casino - all chipped in $10 and did a slot pull - again a great mixer and a lot of fun.

In all cases everyone went to all the cabins .... we kind of snaked through the hallways ... probably laughing and singing along the way! It was mid day so hopefully didn't wake anyone! The people whose cabin was next headed up the line and opened up their cabin and then went to the end of the line.

We did let our room steward know we were coming - he made a delightful "dummy" using my husband's shorts, hat, glasses, book, etc., and when you opened the door it looked like someone was sitting in the room reading!

Highly recommend .... a great way to see a variety of different rooms.

Thank you all for your ideas. I just might "volunteer" to coordinate one on our upcoming cruise!

So basicly you ask for people to open up their cabin for us to tour (get the cabin #), make up a map of the different cabin locations, make copies of the maps, hand them out after the Meet and Mingle, then enjoy the tour.

Hope this works out and thanks again!!!

You don't even really need to make copies of the map - things will probably change before you actually do the crawl. Our M&M did the cabin crawl at 11 am on a sea day leaving from outside the concierge on deck 9 and working our way down through the decks. The person with the map just announced the cabin number and the group set off to find it. On our tour we had 3 aft cabins in a row - a corner, a balcony, and a JS. Also connecting insides, connecting balconies, and a handicapped plus assorted insides, balconies and Js's. We didn't have anyone with a larger suite. At 12:30 we made arrangements to meet and go to lunch in the MDR. It worked well and it was a lot of fun. By leaving at 11 am folks were up and had time to have their cabins made up. Some folks offered candy. No further hospitality was required - we had 30+ people, so it took time to move the group from place to place and for everyone to see the cabins.

I am thinking about organizing a cabin crawl and I wonder how the cocktail works. Where did they get the alcohol to make the cocktail? Do you have any details? Thank you.

Don't have an answer to your question, just some insight. Alcohol isn't necessary. We've done several cabin crawls and basically cruisers were hosts to showing their rooms. Have never actually participated in one involving alcohol. We've been hosts, and we've simply been participants. All have been enjoyable.

Hope this helps.

I recently went on a cabin crawl, and we had a pretty large group.

So they divided us up into groups of 10. The hosts (those showing their cabins) were in the first group. When they got to the first cabin the host stayed there, and the rest went to the second cabin. The second cabin host stayed, and the rest went on, and so on.

They waited about 5-10 minutes for the next group, so we weren't all trying to get into the room at the same time.

The person that was organizing the crawl was in the last group. When the last group with the organizer got to the first cabin, they picked up the host and then they went to the second cabin, picked up that host, and so on. That way, everyone got a chance to see all of the cabins, even the hosts.

They saved the largest suite cabin for last, so people could hang out there at the end.

We had a wonderful cabin crawl on our Glory cruise last April with a large number of guests from our roll call (our roll call is still going and we all still meet monthly for dinner and drinks in the central port of VA..along with any new cruise friends we've picked up along the way..but I digress :p).

Our cabin was one offered for the "crawl". We decorated our room with tropical decorations we picked up from the dollar store. We brought along bags of candy and we had 2 bottles of wine we chilled. We also ordered plates of chips and pretzels, choc chip cookies and veggies with dip from room service. We had a nice set out. :)

We enjoyed checking out all the cabins we had never been in before. I can't wait for our Quantum cruise..I'm definately hosting a cabin crawl! :D

Am I the only one who finds the thought of a cabin crawl a bit weird? I don't particularly want my new friends poking around in my belongings, but if everything is tucked away neatly, then it's a bit like just staring a various sized empty hotel rooms - or is that the point? Also, you have no way of knowing if one of your new friends is actually a crazed axe-murderer, dying to find out where best to waylay you.

I am pretty sure crazed Axe-Murderers are not allowed on the ship. Someone back me up on this!?

I kind of agree...

It makes me a bit nervous to think of a bunch of strangers coming into my room. If I mentioned participating in something like this to my husband, he would look at me like I am nuts! Maybe growing up on South Florida has made me overly cautious.....

They might still be allowed on board, however, their axes are usually confiscated and returned at the end of the cruise, along with scissors, power strips and toe nail clippers. I have seen many threads on people swearing they have successfully used "Axe Runners" to smuggle axes on board. They hide them behind their "REDRUM Runners." :p

All kidding aside, we have participated in and organized cabin crawls. It is a lot of fun and no one is forced to participate.

Half the fun is getting to poke around in other's underwear drawers.

Also, you have no idea how much fun an axe murderer can be.

Oh I do, don't get me wrong. I'm just very fond of my current axe, and don't want to see it murdered.
