cherylg509 Posted October 21, 2016 #1 Share Posted October 21, 2016 I have a really nice 25 inch roll on suitcase that has been used maybe five times the expandable zipper broke but main zipper works fine. I called 4 different luggage repair they said it cant be fixed. Would you still use it to fly and on cruise line? I really don't want to spend the extra money I just bought a new carry on !!! cb at sea Posted October 21, 2016 #2 Share Posted October 21, 2016 I'd use it...unless you need it expanded! Give it a try! Lock it, tho..just in case!
Heather1972 Posted October 22, 2016 #3 Share Posted October 22, 2016 Use it... isn't it expanded all the way with the broken zipper?
CruiserBruce Posted October 22, 2016 #4 Share Posted October 22, 2016 25 inch isn't a carry on, it is a checked bag. Largest carry on is 22 inches on every airline I am familiar with. I would use a strap. That way if the zipper failure gets worse, the strap should hold it. We do this.
xlxo Posted October 22, 2016 #5 Share Posted October 22, 2016 Main zipper works? I would use it. As contents don't get spilled. Personally I love my Samsonite hard sided.... no zippers to worry about when it's abused by cruise and airport staff.
cherylg509 Posted October 22, 2016 Author #6 Share Posted October 22, 2016 yes the suitcase zipper is broken and the bag is expanded looks kinda tacky but still functions it is the bag I want to check on airline! I'm more worried about looks then the function thanks for feedback I think i'll save money and use it.

MrsPete Posted January 7, 2017 #8 Share Posted January 7, 2017 I would contact the manufacturer and (kindly) explain your disappointment in the item's short life span. Include pictures. Ask them to replace it.
zoncom Posted January 13, 2017 #9 Share Posted January 13, 2017 What brand please?
diane.in.ny Posted January 13, 2017 #10 Share Posted January 13, 2017 Two suggestions. For repair, check your local shoe repair shop. Our local shoemaker repaired mine. Second, if you don't need the expansion and things are rolling around inside, invest in luggage straps. They are not expensive and will not only keep the expansion part from expanding :D, but will also help you spot your suitcase easier.
phlydude Posted January 13, 2017 #11 Share Posted January 13, 2017 (edited) I know a guy so cheap, he'd pack a roll of duct tape and use another to "close" his luggage up because the zipper broke and he didn't want to pay to fix it or to buy a new bag. Did this for years but then TSA kept opening his bag. The last straw was his bag coming off the belt but contents were gone and never were to be recovered. They forced his hand...but he had a good run. :D Edited January 13, 2017 by phlydude
