3shar Posted July 28, 2014 #1 Share Posted July 28, 2014 Went on the Getaway with my husband and 3 children (12,17,17).We stayed in the Haven 2 bedroom villa. Here are our thoughts. Embarking- Very easy. We were sent into the Haven area for priority boarding. Filled out some health forms and had our photo taken. Took maybe 10 minutes. We were escorted to the waiting area where there were snacks and drinks. We were there maybe 2 minutes when they escorted us up to the Haven in private elevators. We met our concierge Ruth who said our rooms should be ready by noon but feel free to explore. We walked to our room and our butler and room steward were both in there and the room was done. We got in our room at 11:45 Room- The 2 bedroom villa was great. More than enough room for all of us. 2 kids slept in the second bedroom and one in the living room. Plenty of storage in all rooms. The second bedrooms storage shelves were small but the closet was good size. We just had to be creative. Master bedroom had a ton of storage. The balcony was small but we could all stand out there. Butler and room steward- We had Armando and Sosi. They were both amazing and very attentive. I can not believe how fast the room was picked up and new towels were put in every day. We would eat breakfast and by the time we got back it was done. Food- We went to the main dining room( Tropicana), Savor, Cagneys, the Italian restraint and the Haven Restraunt. All of them were great. We did eat breakfast and lunch at the buffet. It was fine. The kids loved it. Pretty much what you would expect from a buffet. Shows- We went to Illusionarium, Levity Comedy Group and many shows done by the entertainment staff. They were all great. Definitely check your schedule for the little things going on. We went to a lot of the trivia things and shows like the newlywed game, best couple etc. They were hilarious. Entertainment Staff- Cruise director JC Sanchez was awesome! I don't think that man sleeps! Another entertainment person Adam was hilarious. We went to anything he did. All the staff was so friendly and high energy. Disembarking- Piece of cake ...took maybe 15 minutes. Would definitely take this cruise again. Sad to be home
TDOTCRUISR Posted July 28, 2014 #2 Share Posted July 28, 2014 You're not the only one feeling sad...miss it already. The Getaway is a beautiful ship - so tastefully done (guess it helps that it is brand new too). There was tons to do - especially considering there were 3 sea days, it is important to offer the variety. (I was a sun worshipper in my younger days, but not so much anymore). Guess I'm experiencing cruise withdrawal (yes, it's only been a couple of days)....so I am reliving the moments by reading your post....Thanks for writing! LrgPizza Posted July 28, 2014 #4 Share Posted July 28, 2014 I miss it, too. This is the second time I've seen that "JC Sanchez" as the cruise director. I believe this is the same person that originally (like on my cruise) was going by his first name, Joel (pronounced Joelle). Is it one and the same? Apparently he has decided he'd rather be called JC than "Joelle", or maybe he was tired of people reading his name and saying Joel. (Assuming this is the same person.) Never once on our cruise did he use "JC". LOL!

TDOTCRUISR Posted July 28, 2014 #6 Share Posted July 28, 2014 It's funny how you can become so addicted to cruising> I always tell people when they cruise for the first time - you either love it or you hate it...guess you can tell which category I belong in??.....HAHA!! On the msg boards before going & immediately after...(I'm not on the boards during my cruise>no time for that!)...need to be weaned off...until the thought of another cruise pops up...then it's back to the boards again. It's amazing the info you get though so I am thankful!! Last minute finding> bring a blank gift card to slot into the room keyslot in order to charge my camera batteries -otherwise I would have had to 'babysit' the batteries by being in the room mid-afternoon. SMerritt Posted July 28, 2014 #8 Share Posted July 28, 2014 I just read that Ruth was your concierge.......Did Ruth mention if this is her permanent "home" now? We are cruising in October, so I guess things could change. I read some negative reviews about Anoop when he was on the Getaway, which surprised me, he was great on one of our cruises but, it was a smaller ship. I guess, My main question for now, did Ruth escort you or arrange a meeting time to the evening shows? Did she help you with priority disembarkation on the last day? We have sailed with Ruth 3 times and she is very helpful. Who is now the Getaway Hotel director?

3shar Posted July 28, 2014 Author #11 Share Posted July 28, 2014 Ruth was great. She escorted us to Illusionarium. I think they also escort to Legally Blonde. She also escorted us down to disembark through the "secret "elevator haha.

For the shows in the theatre, there is Haven seating about 12 rows back on the left hand side. In the Headliners you do not have an escort and you find your own seat after checking in and having your card swiped. The HD is Sean DANG! I have to go look on something to find his last name. Ruth was lovely. You do not need an escort off the ship on the last day, but she or Noemi will take you down the secret elevator,There is no line. No lines getting off in ports, either. dexddd Posted July 29, 2014 #21 Share Posted July 29, 2014 Aha!! That clears that up. Thanks. (Darn, I had a pretty reasonable working theory though!) We had JC Sanchez on the Dawn in 2012. He went back and forth between Johnny Cash Sanchez and JC and by the end of the cruise he seemed to stick to JC Sanchez. He was an asst CD just prior to that as I recall. Very energetic guy and we really enjoyed talking to him.
