What can I do with OBC I don't really need?

Hello

When I booked my cruise I received some OBC. However I don't plan on dining at any specialty restaurants or buying any drinks. (please no comments on my uncoolness lol! :o)

I read somewhere that NCL doesn't allow you to use the OBC for gratuities anymore.

Is it possible trade it for cash? Or can use it for an excursion?

Thanks for your help!

You should be able to use it for an excursion with no problem. I have also heard that you can load it onto your card as casino credit then just cash out and get cash that way. I think that carries a % (maybe 3%) but I'm not sure and I've never tried this myself.

Use it on excursions, drinks (sodas too), t-shirts, perfume, jewelry, casino and any thousand other things. Some of those specialty resturants are well worth the extra surcharge, don't knock them before you try them. I too did not PLAN on doing those extra things, but seeing everyone else having extra fun, I broke and did them.

You can go to the casino and put your card in a slot machine, charge the amount to your card, and cash out. Take the slip to the cashier and get cash. It costs 3% I think.

I researched this same issue before my last cruise on the Pearl in February and was given the same erroneous information. The casino host told me that I could not have the $100 unrefundable OBC put on my casino card.

I ended up purchasing a future cruise certificate which ended up costing me a net $50 after my original $100 OBC and the additional $100 OBC that's given with the FCC.

That second OBC can be used in the casino. Just collect your winnings tickets after you play then cash them out. Hopefully it's more than $100 but whatever amount is cash you didn't have when you walked in.

As with the original OBC, you can download money from your stateroom account to play. Then the OBC would be used to cover that expense. You're charged 3% with each withdraw, but it is doable(put $5 in the machine, you're charged $5.15). Same process with collecting tickets as you play down the money, convert to cash and fill those pockets!

You can also use the money for some treats not covered by cruise fare: specialty coffee, milkshakes, sundaes, gelato, Carlos Bake shop goodies, etc.

If you REALLY need help finding something to use it on, use it to treat yourselves to something you wouldn't otherwise "waste" your money on. Spa treatment, a gift in one of the shops. There is no lack of places to spend money on a cruise ship LOL

Just use it on something that you wouldn't normally buy for yourself. Splurge. Go to a nice dinner, get a massage or spa pass, use it toward a shore excursion, spend it in one of the shops, buy some of the fitness classes, or use it in the casino.

We were in the same boat. We had a $400 OBC, drink very little and I am tobacco-sensitive, which means no casino or specialty restaurants near it (which on Breakaway, is most of them). We were considering a shore excursion that would have used almost half the credit but after the pathetic Cocoa Beach excursion NCL provided us in Port Canaveral, we ditched that idea and planned our own day in Nassau. We ended up using $250 of our credit ($100 of which was returned as promotional OBC) as down-payment on our next cruise and spent the balance on photos, souvenirs and clothes (the gift shop has some nice Nautica items for the gentlemen). We also burned $59 on an internet data plan so we could stay in touch back home, check the weather, etc.

Whenever I find that I have OBC left on the day before the end of the cruise, I go to the spa and purchase Elemis or Bliss products, i.e., moisturizer, facial cleanser etc. I use the stuff anyway, and getting it for free makes it so much more justifiable....
