New to cruising/cabin location!

Hello!

I'm brand new to cruising and brand new to the forums here and have a question! I'm planning a carnival cruise for my girlfriends and I in the next year and am planning the entire thing for us all. None of us have cruised before. We will be on the Carnival Freedom and in balcony cabins (two of them). I'm trying to figure out the best deck to be on. When I go to the carnival website, it puts us on deck 6 automatically but when I look at the layout.. it's right above the casino.

Will we hear all the noise from the casino all night? Should we pay a little more to be on a higher deck? I looked at some other deck layouts then I got worried about being close to the big theater (can't remember the name of it).

Are the cabins easy to hear noises through? Do I really need to worry about this or am I making a big deal out of nothing and really, no matter where we are it will be fine?

Thank you PortSideCruzan! I will definitely check out your link! I'd love any more tips or hints on the freedom from anyone if they have them. I'm so excited to take this cruise.. I have a feeling once I start cruising I'll never want to stop! (now, getting my husband to cruise with me... that's another story :p )

I have had cabins all over the ship and never had much of a noise issue.

The only time I have heard anything was when I was under the Lido deck and heard them either putting away or putting out the deck chairs. This lasted for only a few minutes. Then I was on the lowest deck and could hear the thrusters when coming into or leaving a port, again only for a few minutes.

Welcome to CC, you will find a bunch of helpful info here. It is a great resource. You can also go to the ports of call boards for the port stops you are making and find things others have to say about that island or location. Read any reviews of that ship or even similar itinerary (gives good ideas on what to do and expect) As far as cabins.... the other poster is right, having rooms above and below helps with buffering noise. Really though unless you are a really light sleeper there is not that much noise to worry about. IMHO if you go in trying to have a great time... you will. Don't expect perfection because very few things are. Be willing to roll with some hiccups and you will be great. Welcome to the Addiction :eek::D When your husband sees the pictures you take and hears how much fun it is and all about the food etc. He will want to come. Hint have him be in on your planning of your cruise and let him read reviews etc. You will convert him also lol. Have a great cruise

If you study the deck plans on sites like cruisedeckplans you can call Carnival and ask for a PVP. The person will tell you they can help you. Ask if they are a PVP. When they say no, insist on a PVP (personal vacation planner). The PVP can book rooms not shown on line.

Best to be between decks, not just over casino, just under gym!

If you have 2 balconies next to each other the web site above will let you know if the balconies can be opened making one large balcony. (Go to the bottom to Extra, go to deck and each cabin is explained.)

Warning! Once you go balcony, you're hooked! :D

Just off the Freedom a couple of weeks ago. We were in balcony 1050 panorama deck which is very close to the lido deck. That was nice!

During the day when sitting on the balcony we could hear the music the D.J. was playing. It didn't bother us at all but you could hear it. Made me want to go out there and join the party! :D

we were on deck 6 on the Magic, right above the casino. sure, its above the casino, but where is your cabin? just because you're on a floor right above the casino, doesnt mean your cabin will be.

anyway, we heard nothing. no noises, other than rowdy a** kids running up and down the hallways all hours of the day and night like a heard of wild banshees.

also, the higher the deck, the more you'll feel the ship move. the lower, the less you'll feel it. IMO 6 is perfect location. lower is prime, but i dont think you can go wrong with 6

:) I agree completely. Also, by booking the "Early Saver" rate, you want to check for any price reductions [see http://www.carnival.com/BookingEngine/FareViewer/ ] - frequently. If you find that the price for your cabin category has gone down, you just call your PVP and they adjust your cost to the lower rate. The difference is given as an OBC (on-board credit). Have fun. We prefer Deck 7 on the Freedom. It is only 2 decks up to Lido and 2 decks down to the entertainment. You also get the buffer of cabins above and below.

If you do decide deck 6 above the casino, go port (left). Do not go starboard (right) as the live band stage up each night by the casino on starboard and they play well into the night. Cannot begin to tell you how many people come to CC for the first time after cruising in those deck 6 cabins saying how it ruined their cruise.

One additional note, the cabins above the casino are 8B cabins. 8B cabins are also forward and aft on deck 7 so would be the exact same price. I would prefer aft as it is closer to the comedy and adults only pool and I think the motion is less than it is forward.

I also recommend calling Carnival and ask for a PVP. They can get you the rooms on deck 7 (if available) when they aren't showing on the website.

Wow! Thank you all for all the great information! I apologize for being MIA for a while.. I have a new baby and I just had to go through surgery so I've been quite busy.

I'm going to look at all those links everyone gave and see what I think.. it sounds like deck 7 would be a great choice! I'll be sure to come back once I have the trip booked and let y'all know what we decided on. My girlfriends and I are putting our deposit down this weekend or early next week and I just can't wait! I know the cruise is still over a year away, but knowing we have a deposit on it makes it seem like it's REALLY happening!

I recommend calling Carnival directly. their PVP's (personal vacation planner) can be very helpful with choosing your cabin. Before you call, open up to the deck plans for the shipon your computer so when she gives you cabin numbers you can look at what is above and below it. The PVP's have access to more cabins than what shows on their website.

p.s congrats on the new baby and hopefully you heal quickly from your surgery.

Another vote for Deck 7...great location in proximity to the Lido and Promenade decks, which are where most of the action is. We like to be on Deck 7 forward...this also puts us close to the "secret deck", which is a public deck that wraps around the front of the ship on several decks. These decks are offer great panoramic views and have little traffic. The doors are at the very forward ends of the halls. Even though we book balconies, we still use these secret decks to get good sunset pics when our balcony isn't facing the right direction.

Welcome to CC. You have lots of great advice to read.

We LOVE being on the Lido Deck. We are steps away from the pool, where we spend most of our days. We are steps away from the buffet so it's easy and fast to grab food to enjoy on our balcony. We have never heard noise from the outside deck areas. We take the stairs down to the Promenade Deck, where a lot of night time activities take place-it's exercise to offset the chocolate chip cookies, which are divine! Though we have not sailed Freedom, we have sailed her sister ships.

We have been on the Freedom a number of times and my suggestion to you is Deck 7. Enjoy the Freedom it's a great ship !

We love Lido balconies. Close to the pools and no stairs or elevators to deal with. Also close to coffee in the mornings!
