Room service and to go food

I find it interestng that some are complaining about platexs and trays blocking the hallways for handicap and scooters.

When we sailed on the Getaway, one of the senior officers had to recruit some housekeeping personnel to clear the hallways of parked scooters. They took them to an area that had space.

It was a safety issue, and the people who had left the scooters in the hallways were really complaining !!!

Ironic, isn't it ????

Yep, those scooters are supposed to inside the cabins.. If someone in a wheelchair can't get down the hall around a plate, how in the world can they get around scooters. Some people are soooo inconsiderate.

Just back from breakaway. On a flight home now.

Here is what I experienced. In the specialty restaurants lebistro we asked to take our dessert back. They said no. But we could have room service deliver for $8

In the Manhattan room we asked to take our dessert back. They said no but they would deliver for free.

Took food from the buffet no problem. Nobody cared. No one policing.

Got to go. Plane taxing

Welcome back. Hope you had a great cruise on Breakaway. It's my favourite ship. The crew seems to have stepped up their efforts to keep the hallways clear of trays and dishes. Good to hear. Just wondering if they enforced the "carry out" rule at the buffet on your cruise?

Had a wonderful time. Third time on BA. They have changed back the policy of taking food out of any restaurant including buffet. O'Sheehans has a to go area to take food out

Looking for a singular solution is rarely the best course of action.

I would guess it was the combination of social media, cancellations, calls and emails to NCL. Consumers should always use a multi pronged attack when trying to effect change or voice displeasure to a new policy.

I bet a huge part of it was a drop on future cruise credits by those already onboard an NCL cruise when this policy was implemented unexpectedly.

Hi was nice meeting you. That's really weird they told you no. At cagneys they told me I could have my desert sent to my room free and O'Sheehans has their to go counter set up. I got something to go. I believe the change went into effect on the 26th, 3rd day into our cruise. Maybe it was before then that you asked or the staff wasn't informed yet. Hope you had a great time. I sure did.

Yes it is ironic. My wife & I came across that. Those people were not truly disabled, just old and inconsiderate. Someone who has been in a wheelchair most of his/her life would know better.

That's really mean to say. You have *NO* idea what one's handicap is so how dare you say one is just old and inconsiderate. If anyone you know, God Forbid is ever disabled, I hope you remember these words. And I hope those that see your disabled family member has a bit more consideration and understanding as well as compassion than you seem to have.

I'm really shocked to read what you posted.....and it takes a lot to shock me.

You should be ashamed of yourself!

You are correct no one knows by looking at someone if they are handicapped or not. Didn't someone just post a picture of a couple in the handicap seating at the buffet, on one of these threads, and say that they didn't belong there. Now how would anyone know, unless they ask them if they were handicapped either?

My apologies to you, Harriet, and to any other seniors with mobility issues who never park their scooter outside their cabin door blocking the hallway. I was referring solely to the few that do.

We're there cancellations because of this policy? Amazing they would trade a great itinerary and ship because of this. No I was not happy about the policy. Ut I would never cancel because of it. Mute point now, YES!

My group of 30 scrapped our Escape plans due to these new policies and booked a better itinerary on a better ship. The new room service charge did not sit well with the majority of the group, and these are people who normally couldn't care less what cruise line we go on. No, this is not a mute point. The damage has been done and NCL showed their cards in this.

And I've got news for you, there are much better itineraries and much better ships out there than NCL.

Just curious. Which ship is better than the Escape and why?

I think there are many ships better than Escape. In this case, we decided to book the Celebrity Reflection. Harmony of the Seas is an alternative option. There are many reasons I think they're better, but I'll keep those to myself.

We were on Celebrity's Silhouette last year. Hands down our favorite ship so far. You'll love Reflection...sister ship.

Yes, I agree...there really are better ship and cruise lines out there.

I was on the Eclipse when it was only one month in service so I know what you're talking about. That ship was awesome. But it was not at an NCL price.

Our first NCL cruise is this coming September, so we’ve been researching, a LOT. Funny thing is, we never saw a single mention of piles of plates and food in the hallways until it came out as the excuse for the takeout ban. And still, not one single person has posted one single photo of one single dirty dish in one single hallway. Interesting, no?

Just bringing this post forward, since Cruise4Real doesn't seem to think that it existed. Edited by NLH Arizona

Hubby and I debarked from the Breakaway on May 17th. We both brought food from the buffet and ordered from the room service menu (once) which is slightly more expansive with offerings like grilled salmon and steak.

We had no problem bringing food from the buffet, but when I asked to take a cake from Le Bistro I was told that they couldn't but that's not the first time it's been said. I find that it's hit or miss asking for food from there. A few times they wrapped it up and sent it with me, multiple times they've delivered it to my room and on occasion they just say say that they're unable to do that.

All in all it made no real difference to our cruise. As long as I can bring food from the buffet that I prefer to eat in my stateroom I won't complain...for now. If they enforce that "rule" that's when I'll have a problem with this.

All of this talk of food and now I'm hungry.

You will be happy, if you haven't seen it, they have reversed the "no food from the restaurants or buffet" rule.

Just noticed that in the other thread. Thanks for the note. Well it'll making taking cake back to the room easier now. Not that we need any more cake (or any food) while cruising. LOL

  • 3 weeks later...

The reversal allowing food to be brought back to the cabin is a good thing, we are looking into cruising with Norwegian for the first time. If the rule was still in effect we would have chosen another cruise line, now we get to try Norwegian and are stoked!!!

We cruised on the Gem the first week of June and tons of people were taking their food out of.the buffet and to their room and not one crew member batted an eye.

I don't think any of the ship's fully implemented the rule.

I just got off the Dawn yesterday. Absolutely no restriction on taking food on plates from any or the dining venues. NCL seems to be clearing the plates from the corridors quickly as I did not notice many plates lying around.

No idea why this is being brought up again. There is no issue at all here.
