Room service and to go food

I am happy they will address the hallways. I was on the Getaway in March, a new ship with narrow cabin hallways and the food trays, dishes and glasses made it look crappy. I am also happy that they listened. Hopefully, they will learn from this as well.

Now, would someone at Miami HQ make sure to get this newest communications out to its fleet's chains of command, especially the F&B directors, those in charge of restaurants ... including O'Sheehans & Blue Lagoons, etc.

It is a small victory, now, there are other policies that management should be closely reviewing next - and, listen to the customers ;) :p A very smart face saving move for the line especially if their image and bookings headed south, so to speak. USA Today was right on top of it all :D

Standby for the pom poms for the positive spins. For everyone involved - we made our points heard, loud & clear. As always, the 5% (or is 1%) have spoken for the sheepies and everyone (almost) can re-evaluate their choices for sailing, going forward.

Why shouldn't there be "positive spins"? I don't consider myself either a "cheerleader" or a "jeerleader", but from where I sit, it looks like NCL swallowed their pride on this one and did the right thing, which should make everyone happy. Why would that garner "negative spin"?

This is great news! I have still not heard back from the access desk In relation to my husbands disability needs, which I still expect an answer to. I have however spoken to my TA who did say, yes they can change policies (which, yes, I was aware of) but they can not add prices (charge for something that was complementry) after the contract had been made! So will he be looking at crediting anyone who had paid up before the new room service policy came in? This will no longer an issue to my family, but I'd be interested to know how they will get away with this?

But but....how many on here said Cc doesn't do anything? Social media..ptooey.

Wait....what's that noise???? Ohhhhh it's back peddling.

I seem to recall that FDR was less than complimentary about social media in a briefing he did recently.

Has the lesson been learned, I wonder?

Next lesson, communications - to customers and staff.

There were those who went to great lengths to argue that NCL was justified with what they were doing. They may not be willing to swallow the same pride NCL did.

Just a heads up - this volte face was about taking food back to the cabin, not about the $7.95 RS fee. That $7.95 still stands.

Glad they reversed it, I would be one that usually grabs pastries and coffee in the morning and eat it on my balcony.

I don't believe it wasn't a revenue/cash grab decision. If it was just about the hallways and keeping it clean, then the $8 for room service fee wasn't necessary.

i if you read further back you would see that both issues have been discussed! As most people believed they were related!

I am happy that the policy has been reversed BUT even more happy that it was mentioned that they will increase the hall cleanups....now everyone is satisfied . :D

A message to all of the posters who said that posting on social media was a waste of time - read it and weep.

Room Service continental breakfast (albeit a reduced provision) reverted to free; now this.

Sheeples get walked upon; those who stand up and complain may (in this case did) get listened to.

No one can hear words that aren't spoken (or read words that aren't typed)!

So happy we were finally heard!

Congratulations JeerLeaders! Happy for you. You won!!

You know what? Yes, we did. Call me any name you like if it makes you feel better. I know I'll be enjoying my hot take-out breakfast on my balcony without a care in the world what you think about it.

So so salty....that plate of crow must be delicious...SMH...this is a huge win for the customer. We do not vacation to be babied and told how to eat. We won this battle. That doesn't make up jeerleaders that makes us good strong protectors of consumer rights.

I agree with you....we have no idea what else is coming...BUT..it is nice sometimes when wrongs are righted. The biggest problem I had with the "no food to rooms" policy was it made me like I was being treated like a child AND I saw no way it could have been implemented in a way which would not incur confrontations (not good for customer or staff).

Actually most everyone on this thread has won. Especially those who like to bring food back from the buffet and dining rooms. Happy happy happy all around.

I know, I have been pitching in this thread from the start. Yes, it is fairly obvious that the two issues were related, I was just pointing out that the $7.95 RSC still stands.

Now if we could get rid of that one...:D

Glad NCL finally came to their senses. I think most on CC agree that dirty halls was just a convenient justifiction for a carry out ban and had much more to do with increasing room service revenue.

And if Del Rio has a desire to make an improvement to NCL by setting the bar higher when it comes to trays in the corridors to the point that a tray in a hall would be a rarety instead of an occassional sighting, than I applaud him for that. It will be interesting to see if anything changes at all as far as how RS trays, or dishes from anywhere else, are handled. If no changes, then that pretty much confirms that health and safety and a pristine ship were just a bunch of blah, blah.

I do think it is a shame that the office of Andy Stuart thinks nothing of putting out the image of NCL ships with filthy halls out to the public, not once but twice. I'm sure this will go a long way toward creating a great impression of NCL to the cruising public! They do not need any other detractors when they are doing the job themselves. Unbelievable. Do they not have any competent PR person to advise them when it comes to putting out a press statement that appeases the masses yet makes themselves look good at the same time?

The NCL haters are over on the HAL or Celebrity boards, etc., and could care less about NCL issues. If I were not such an NCL Cheerleader, I would not have cared so much about this issue.

I thought that the policy was fair, based on the condition of some of the ships. However, NCL did listen and reversed the policy. The best part, IMO, is that something will be done about the trash/plates in the hallway that some posters do not believe exists. Another positive to this is that NCL will be able to respond to customers with important issues (such as one that is posted on this page) instead spending time on the new policies.

Maybe some of the snarky comments will stop. It would be nice of posters could make their points without bullying those that do not agree with you.

Which NCL ships did you see the hallways filled with dirty dishes? Oh, thats right, you've NEVER sailed NCL.

I've only sailed them 3 times but never have i seen garbage spilling over.

I forget....why are you here posting so much about a line you've never cruised on?

How would you know about "the condition of some of their ships" when you don't cruise on NCL?

Oh right...you're buying into the story that was concocted by the suits in Miami to cover their tracks after they spent all day in the bathroom wiping the egg off their collective faces caused by the ridiculous "no takeout" rule they imposed that "coincidentally" started just after they imposed a room service fee.

If there really was that much of a cleanliness problem then the solution they just announced was the appropriate approach all along...have the crew collect empty plates, etc. from the hallways on a regular basis. It didn't take a genius to come up with that idea.

Not sure I understand what you are saying?

According to NCL, the $7.95 room service fee is fleetwide, for everyone, regardless of when they booked.

Are you saying that's not so?

The information my TA gave me yesterday was that the company can change policies but would not be able to impose extra charges for something that was complimentary at time of booking/payment. This is all I was told. They are taking the matter up with NCL and getting back to me.

I think your TA is mistaken. That doesn't sound right. This is an on-board charge and I don't think there's anything preventing NCL from imposing this on those who are already booked.

Hmmm. Interesting how this post from the person you quoted just disappeared. Oops!

I wonder if Andy Stuart's announcement that they will be policing the hallways more will have any effect on those on this board who insist that trays and dishes should be left in the room ??

It seems this would be opposite of the solution Stuart is going to put in effect.

Also, I will offer the solution to those who suggested numerous times that those who didn't like the new policies should go to another cruise line.

Since the solution has been made, I suggest that those who tried to dissuade us should move to another website.

Everybody went back and forth in this issue even the ones that were against it. Everyone wins in this policy. You can bring your food back to your cabin and hopefully they will do a better job of controlling the dirty plates in hallways and around the pool. People just need to leave their dirty dishes in their room.

One solution is for people to leave their trays and dishes in the room. Another solution is to leave the trays and dishes in the hallways and have them picked up promptly (15 min. or less). Either way, it will be an improvement.
