  1. I sailed out of Galveston on the Crown Princess in 2013. I think that was after the Port of Houston (Barber's Cut) was closed down to cruise ships.
  2. There's Muriel (May B) and Ricki that I can think of immediately who are on the west coast of Florida. There are others on the east coast who aren't in as much danger. Patty
  3. I was responding to Mr Luxury when he posted you couldn’t sail on any cruise ship without a passport. Also said it was round trip and in the Caribbean. I sometimes wonder about people’s reading comprehension when they jump in to correct you when you’ve actually already said it. I should be used to that on the internet.
  4. Checking on all the Florida peeps. Hoping everyone has as little damage and disruption as possible from Ian. Please let us hear from you and how you are doing.😍 Patty
  5. Actually US citizens can sail on round trip cruises from US ports to the Caribbean on some mass market cruise lines with a birth certificate and other ID. If they need to fly home from one of the islands, that's where the problem occurs. I wouldn't do it, but it's done every day.
  6. According to the DJ this morning on Sirius XM channel 73, 60s Gold, this is the day they changed planes at Walnut Ridge, Arkansas in 1964!! Patty
  7. Didn't I read somewhere that Silversea had hired the former entertainment head from Crystal?
  8. FYI, many would not classify Princess as premium. Premium is often defined as lines such as Viking, Azamara, Oceania, etc.
  9. I'm considering a cruise with 9 sea days, not a crossing, and am also concerned about sea day activities. I'm used to Crystal and have always heard that none of the other luxury lines could ever compare with what Crystal offered.
  10. IAH is over 70 miles from the Galveston cruise terminal. You really need to have a plan on getting to the airport.
  11. Do not stay around the airport. It is in the middle of no where, a long way from anything of interest in Houston. It's also not the "best" neighborhood. Staying near downtown would probably be better. There is enough to see and do in Galveston for at least 2 full days. See the list above on Galveston. For Houston see visithoustontexas.com
  12. I booked door to door and as of late last night my flights were still listed on the airline website. Guess it takes a while to cancel all of them. ☺️
  13. My friends who were scheduled to be on the Muse from mid Nov to early Jan have had it all cancelled.
  14. Did you see that Diana Kennedy, the expert on regional Mexican foods, died yesterday? She was up in her 90s.
  15. Nothing better than the crowds booing Altuve, all 5'6" of him, and he just keeps smiling and proceeds to hit the first ball thrown out of the park!! P.S. And if you think the other teams haven't "cheated", I've got a bridge to talk to you about buying!!
  16. I wasn't going to mention it, but I will. Your "beloved" New York Yankees went 2 and 5 against the Astros for the regular season and by all rights it should have been 0 and 7!! πŸ€ͺπŸ˜‹β˜ΊοΈ Patty
  17. Brian, please contact me when you finish your cruise on the Silver Moon as I will be on the Silver Muse in November and it seems they are similar ships. xoxoxo Patty
  18. Most likely. Be one of the first off with your own luggage. Odds are you'll get to the airport with time to spare.
  19. As I understand it, those are just grocery stores. Costco and Sam's Club (owned by Walmart) are what we call warehouse clubs. They sell food, but many other items, often in bulk. You could go in and purchase tires for your car, patio furniture, a diamond ring, a giant bag of coffee and really good deals on very drinkable wine.
  20. In the US, Costco is considered much "higher end" than Sam's Club. I can assure you that it would not be surprising to find Silversea cruisers shopping there!
  21. As a life long Texan who has lived in the Houston area all my life, except for college years in Dallas, but that was over 50 years ago, I'd say it is absolutely impossible to experience Texas at any one location. That being said, I'd recommend the San Antonio-Austin area. Those are still big cities, but smaller than either Houston or DFW. If you are comfortable driving on the "wrong side of the road", rent a car and get out in the areas between the big metropolitan areas. And to the Dallas person above, you are delusional if you think there is less crime in Dallas than in Houston. 😲
  22. I'm on the Muse, November 18, Hong Kong to Singapore, and my travel agent called today to say that final payment has been extended to Sept. 4. That's 75 days out for my cruise. It's only logical that if the Japan cruises are changed, the cruises that follow will have to be changed too. This a case where Door to Door makes things a lot easier with itinerary changes highly possible.
  23. As to weather, timing and Alaska - I have done 6 Alaska cruises, very late April to mid September and find weather to be a crap shoot. I have experienced every kind of weather at every port. Que sera, sera.
  24. Just read that with Omicron, the current variant that's rampant. the incubation period is 2 to 3 days at most. So, it's just as likely that the exposure happened at the airport or on the plane.
