We have a ship excursion booked ... Discover Alaska's Whales: Small-Group Experience ... will be interesting to see who has been chartered.
-
What sort of feedback are the locals giving on " Chops " which seems to have opened up just down the road from Canada Place? Thanks
-
Thanks for the offer of answers. We have one coming up soon about which i have a couple of questions re excursions. Hubbard Glacier by catamaran and ISP is a small group whale watch I would really like to know the approximate pax numbers on these two trips. I have heard that some catamaran trips have upto 160 pax! I hope this is for Monstrosity of the Seas and similar π€ͺ Thanks.

We have a pre-cruise stay at the PP. I have not even entertained the idea of the baggage assistance. Lift down to the terminal, 100 yards walk to bag drop ....... done. Probably a shorter walk than arrivals at YVR! Check out is quite late and the PP have intimated they will store the luggage for an hour or so if needed.

We sailed with RP ... I found him to be a pain in the butt! He was using a prepared script ... change the day and fill in the blanksπ His outrageous claim to fame was announcing the next day's itineray over the PA .... over dinner .. into La Terrazza ... and upsetting several people. I understand that he was advised accordingly.

I suppose it depends on the efficiency of the debark protocols. There was a complaint some months ago that people were queueing for over an hour just to get off the ship. Many missed excursions. Needless to say it was the passengers fault for not getting in the queue earlierπ One gangway, one exit point from the ship ... how many security stations will there be?

Interesting! In my experience if you try to manually alter course when the autopilot is engaged then nothing will happen. If you don't realise that "error" within seconds then ... if George is in control then no one is at the helm. If someone IS monitoring and stod at the helm then they should know exactly what the situation is .... as should the OOW! The below infers the 3/O was unlicensed ... which is/was common practice if he/she was appointed based on previous reports as to competency. The Old Man was drunk ... no excuse whatsoever ... and zero sympathy for any punishment. Been there and sailed with one ...total menace! A quick search says .... Although the primary cause was the Bligh Reef that the ship struck, investigations later unveiled that negligence and an overworked crew played were also to blame. Moreover, the lack of proper traffic regulation systems by the Coast Guard in the sea meant that they could not monitor the Exxon tanker properly. Investigations found out that ship captain Joseph Hazelwood was intoxicated or had been drinking before the accident. Moreover, the ship was being steered by an unlicensed third mate with the permission of the captain, signifying a high degree of negligence. Also, if the Coast Guard could have monitored the tanker movement, perhaps it could have prevented the accident. Also, its crew was overworked, meaning tiredness was also a factor that may have caused them not to be alert. The investigations, therefore, dispelled the notion by some that the accident may have been caused by the nature of the coastline or that the ship was steered into the coastline. Negligence, incompetence, and an overworked crew are the main causes of the blame. Moreover, the Bligh Reef was a well-known navigation hazard among ship captains hence, they used to take precautionary measures.

I have been monitoring the schedule .... we are going in August We have Radiance of the Seas .... 2466 pax Crown Princess ... 3080 pax So unless someone pulls their finger out I am expecting carnage. Will try to get there early and hope for the best but plan for the worst .... ππ€ͺπ€π΅βπ«

Good thread on faecesbook earlier ... 2 to 3 hr queues to board Odyssey in Vancouver. Most of the 'blame' is being attributed to slow progress at American immigration .... also in port were two other ships with 9000+ pax to board, all at the same time. Hoping they get a touch more organised, if that was the cause, as the AK season progresses.

As our old meteorology lecturer once said ..... everywhere in the world has climate ... England has weather π Once went for Tromso in February and ended up in shorts playing football! Different type of cold altogether .. compared to the UK .... it was a dry cold as opposed to a wet one which gets into every nook and cranny, in fact everywhere π Says he who is off to Alaska in August ... hopefully π€

" The fact that he could go around our farm on an open John Deere Gator with the SB Alaska jacket and be comfortable attests to the warmth of the jacket. " Ah ... memories π Once took a ship load - literally- of JD Tractors from Norway to the east coast USA .. in January ... absolutely vile weather... it looked as if a child had scribbled on a piece of paper and called it an isobaric chart π€ͺ

What do I do that others don't? I avoid any hyper CD or anybody that exhorts you to have their idea of 'fun' ..... ie spend money on booze. I am quite capable of enjoying myself without needing advice on how to do so. I avoid any sailaway party .... just not interested ... especially when linked to the above π

Did you ask when on board?
-
Ah, thanks. SB USA seems to be somewhat lacking in communication skills. I'll ask my TA but we paid months ago. Thanks for the answer.

Where would one find their invoice please? I assume it is accessible on-line via some magic method π΅βπ« My booking was via a TA if that will have any bearing on the matter. Ta.
