  1. The Public Gardens are beautiful, so you might want to start there if it’s a good weather day. They are a steep uphill climb from the waterfront, so you should consider a cab to save time. You could visit the Citadel afterwards. Either way, walk back down to and then along the waterfront, eating and shopping. On the food end, and as mentioned in a comment above, don’t miss BeaverTails — incredibly delicious pastries. They have a stand in a sort of food court area midway along the waterfront. I also like poutine — you might not, but give it a try somewhere on your trip. 😊 We love Halifax, I hope you enjoy your day there.
  2. It’s wonderful. Be sure to leave room for the warm chocolate chip cookie and ice cream. (Seriously, don’t make the mistake of filling up on the salad and flatbreads.)
  3. I agree, the made up drama on just about every episode is crazy. We’ve seen them all many times, I wish there were new ones. The series Mighty Ships is quite interesting. It’s amazing how many unique, purpose-built vessels there are out there.
  4. Sorry about the itinerary change, and I hope the seas aren’t too rough on your return. You all seem to have great attitudes about this (and of course you went in knowing it was hurricane season), and so I hope you’ll be able to enjoy the rest of the cruise!
  5. I totally appreciate and thank you for saying that. Maybe I’ve just been lucky, but I haven’t seen too many people in bathrobes in food areas. Maybe that’s why I was so taken aback a few years ago during our first HAL cruise when I was getting lunch in the buffet and a guy walked up to the serving station in a bathrobe. I was stunned. It was so inappropriate.
  6. I don’t think anyone has that information yet; perhaps the cruise terminal will be finished by then (although that does not seem likely). If a shuttle is still being used, you may not have the drop off information until you are on the ship. Patience … 😊
  7. Nice cabin! Have a safe and fun trip, and thanks for taking the time to share it with us.
  8. Magnum’s Champagne and Wine Bar, still there (at least on the Jewel-class ships).
  9. If you don’t clear the waitlist before you sail, you should certainly ask on board. The worst that could happen is you’ll be told they can’t do it. When you embark, head for the MDR and see if you can speak to the Maitre d’.
  10. You will need permission, as others have said. And fyi, in case you are looking anything up or writing to anyone, it’s Southampton. Good luck with your plans.
  11. Thanks, this is fascinating! Is this daily auction new since the restrictions were put in place? (I would think so.)
  12. Perfect advice. This is not the place to nickel and dime yourself. 😊
  13. We do. Not much, since so many countries are virtually cashless now, but we like to have some local currency for those few places where we may need it. Our bank will order what we need, and we don’t pay a fee. It usually takes a few days to a week. There’s also the option of AAA.
  14. I’m sorry, I don’t. (But it wasn’t a lot.) I do recall that we’d picked up the cab aways from the pier, and they really wanted to sell us on a tour, which of course we didn’t want. This was some years ago.
  15. Imho, you can’t beat the convenience of parking at the cruise terminal. And especially when you disembark, you’ll be on your way quickly, not schlepping off to somewhere in New Jersey to get your car.
  16. If you are talking about the St. Kitts Scenic Railway Tour, we did it in late 2021 and it was wonderful. A great way to see beautiful parts of the island. Live narration, local dancers who came aboard to perform, “adult” and non-adult beverages … A really excellent tour.
  17. Thanks for the link. Interestingly, the article says this: “The authority that manages the canal added in a statement that this week's ship traffic represents a ‘normal’ level for this season. It noted that a month before the end of its 2023 fiscal year, the canal's total vessel crossings already total nearly 800 more that what the canal authority's budget had forecast. The additional vessel crossings, which contribute to a total of more than 13,000 transits so far during the fiscal year, show strong demand by vessel owners.”
  18. I’ve never read anything like that. It certainly is not policy, and it’s totally at the discretion of the ship whether you get more free laundry than the policy states. In 2020, we were on the Gem for a 20-day Panama Canal cruise; we were each given 2 free bags of laundry.
  19. If you are speaking generally about the wisdom of having travel insurance, I agree with you. But if you are advising people on an upcoming cruise to buy insurance now because of Lee, I think many policies will not cover you once a storm exists and has been named. In any event, everyone should read a policy before buying it. I hope all in the path of Lee are safe.
  20. I have an iPhone 13 Pro that I bought a little over a year ago for its camera. My iPhone 8 was still working fine as a phone, but after seeing the quality of the camera images on my wife’s iPhone 11, I realized it was time to get a new phone. Once I got the 13 Pro, I also took an on line iPhone photography course, which was well worth it, because there are so many features built into the camera that you would just not know about. I’ve gotten to the point in my life that schlepping the DSLR, even mirrorless, with lenses, chargers, batteries, on trips is getting to be a bit much. In the past year, I’ve gone on a few trips with just my iPhone, and I haven’t regretted it, especially on land tours where I’m walking around all day. It’s been nice to go light.
  21. @BillB48 thanks for the posts and info above. The photo in the first one looks very much as Fuerte Amador did when we were there in February. And it doesn’t look much changed in the still from the video. Well, one day it will be finished. 😂
  22. You said the Statue was “yesterday’s news” on sail-in. 😂 But yes, I was under the Bridge as well. 😊 (photos by turtles06)
