I don't 'feel' that at all or believe anything like it would happen. I simply suggested a (highly unlikely) scenario where a cruies line could save a few bucks by missing ports of call. I'd suggest though, that the real reason(s) for canceling port calls are due to bad weather and sea conditions, civil and labour unrest and safety/medical emergencies and not opportunities to pinch the fuel budget.

Not that I have any idea what Tranq B meant, but they could save fuel by not actually making their way to the missed port(s); rather than steaming a few hundred miles over a couple of days, just putter around at sea doing eight knots to nowhere and chalk up some fuel consumption savings. We were in London for a weekmin August. It was common for sit-down restaurants to add 12.5% to the bill and it was clearly marked gratuity; VAT never came up. After London, we were in Manchester, Glasgow and Edinburgh and did not receive restaurant bills with gratuities added for our convenience.

I don't believe London reflects common practice throughout the UK.
