  1. Exactly my point. Your level of risk can be very different than my level of risk. So your actions can be very different from my actions. That’s the way it should be. What is not acceptable to me is anyone putting their level of risk on me. And if someone you know got Covid on a cruise and died, I do not believe it’s the cruise line or other passengers responsibility for that. Hopefully, people can assess their risk accurately and act accordingly.
  2. I’m going to keep booking until Carnival stops sending me good deals. I have yet to talk with someone who didn’t have a good time on a cruise since it’s opened back up, so not worried about it.
  3. Fair enough. There has been enough back and forth about mandates. No reason to keep that up. My main issue is people assessing their risk when doing things like cruising. I love that cruising is back. And so far, I haven’t seen a lot of tales of people getting really sick after getting Covid on a cruise. Hope that continues.
  4. Well, if people are willing to pay full fare, then Carnival or any cruise line should charge as high a price as they can. Having said that, I have cruises booked through next April and I haven’t paid anywhere close to full fare with the deals Carnival is offering.
  5. The infection rate in places where masks were mandated were not better than where masks were not mandated. It’s math. Viruses are going to do what viruses do. But the issue is how it relates to cruising. Anyone getting on a cruise is at risk regardless of what the cruise lines or other passengers do. And if they get the virus, it was their decision to get on that ship that exposed them. If it makes them feel better by blaming others, that’s fine. Misguided. But fine.
  6. It is amazing how often their site is down or not working right. I don’t get it because a lot of times, it’s when you’re trying to buy things.
  7. And mandates don’t work. Data has clearly shown that states with mandates did no better with Covid and much worse economically. That’s why states with mandates finally gave up the ghost. Unless those states think Covid is over, which it’s not. It has and always will come down to individuals making personal risk assessments and acting accordingly. Hoping that government, businesses, cruise lines, or other people to protect you from a virus is a poor strategy.
  8. True. It’s all about risk assessment. If people at low risk of dying from Covid want to wear masks and avoid public places because of long Covid risks, they can. But they should not be cruising. And they should not expect others to change their behavior because of their super conservative risk assessment.
  9. Good points. But some folks aren’t happy unless they complain. You ask them how their vacation went, and they say it was good, but……and then list things they think went wrong. Some people are wired that way. But I think cruise critic has a higher proportion of them than cruisers at large. I live in a 55+ community with a ton of cruisers. When we talk about cruising, we don’t spend time talking about the people wearing shorts in the MDR, the kids running around being…..kids, etc.
  10. Yes. Those are choices. And in each choice, the person knows they are putting themselves at risk. They can mitigate that risk in a variety of ways. But they can’t eliminate it if they are going to be around other people. But for anyone to get on a cruise ship, get Covid, and then complain the cruise line didn’t do enough to protect them is avoiding the consequences of their actions.
  11. I have never met anyone who thinks Covid is no big deal. But for the vast majority of people, they get it, they get over it, life goes on. Just like many other viruses. And it’s not about blaming the victim. It’s about choices people make. Unless someone gets Covid because they depend on others for assistance, they got it from their own actions. They chose to be around other people. It’s how I’ve gotten it twice. I understood my health risk was really low, and chose to live my life like normal. If I got really sick or died, it would have been completely my responsibility. I don’t judge others for making different decisions. I truly don’t get why anyone would depend on others to not give them a virus.
  12. Wow, lawyers looking to make a buck. Shocking news. It still doesn’t change the fact that anyone who gets on a cruise ship is risking getting Covid. Period. If they do, blaming the cruise lines, other passengers, whoever else….doesn’t change the fact that they got infected because of their decision to get on the ship. Period. It really is that simple.
  13. No, they aren’t. But hey, masks work. So anyone who wears a mask is safe from getting the virus on a cruise ship, so nothing anyone else does should affect them, right? Anyone who gets on a ship, or goes anywhere where other people are around, has a chance of getting the virus. It’s on them if they expose themselves to the virus. No one is forcing them to cruise. If people who get the virus want to blame others to make themselves feel better, that’s fine.
  14. No it’s not. I’ve had Covid twice. I haven’t reported it to any authority. Only to people I came into contact with. No one has a right to my health information. Also, I don’t care if the cruise lines report cases to the CDC. I’m just not going to report anything myself.
  15. But that is true of everything anyone does in public. Should every public venue test everyone and be responsible for someone getting a virus and taking it back home? Of course not. There have been viruses on cruises ships forever. Long before Covid. And there will be long after.
  16. If someone is vaccinated and is worried they will die getting the virus, they probably shouldn’t be on a cruise ship. And if they do go, they shouldn’t blame the cruise lines if they get infected.
  17. 1) I like Walmart. I don’t like spending more money on things even if I can afford it. 2) I don’t care if people wear stupid stuff, act like a fool a little…..it’s the fun ship. If people want to sit around listening to chamber music and passing the grey poupon, there are cruises for that. 3) I like the diversity on Carnival. And I don’t mean the “woke” kind. I mean meeting people from all walks of life and having a great time on a cruise. 4) I like the fact that when I get on a Carnival cruise out of Florida or NO, I can talk SEC football with just about everyone.
  18. I would think if you are in different rooms with people under 21, yes, one of you could get the package. How hard will it be to get you both drinks on that one packages? Hard if you are both there and want it at the same time. I’m not going to say I’ve never shared a drink with someone. But I wouldn’t try and do that for an entire cruise. Pain in the butt and, to be totally honest, you are 100% being cheap if you go that route. Not judging. But it is cheating the system.
  19. There is always a chance of getting some virus on a cruise ship. Covid is no different. So everyone needs to take whatever precautions they deem necessary given their risk factors. If people want a zero chance of getting the virus, don’t go. Depending on a cruise line or other passengers to keep you from getting a virus is not a good strategy.
