A heads up for those that book deck 10 under pool deck

Recommended Posts

Your post got me worried. I'm due to sail on Voyager of the Seas in June, and have booked an Owner suite 1308, on deck 10, under the pool deck.

Looking at the deckplans, I think the Independence of the Seas has similar layout as the Voyager.

I have previously started a thread asking for people's opinion about possible noise from the pool deck. Most of the responses were reassuring. One person even said that the ceiling of the suite was not the floor of the pool deck!

I am a light sleeper, therefore I always book a room located on the floor with staterooms above and below. Unfortunately on this cruise, the suites are located on deck 10, below the pool deck. So I don't have the option to change suite now.

Could I ask the concierge to refrain the cleansers from dragging the loungers after midnight, so that I could get at least 8 hours of sleep? Or better still, contact RCCL and request thick gym mats to be laid on the deck above the suites? (Voyager is going in Drydock for renovation next month).

We were in room 1300 on the Voyager last month..The noise was AWFUL!!!!! The first night I got about 2 hours of sleep. I complained to Martin, the conceirge, and that night absolutely no noise...However the night after that NOISE again. I called security and the noise was less but still there..Complained to Martin again and that night no noise again, however next night NOISE again...I think you can see the pattern here. I asked if they could refrain from making noise between 12 am and 6 am..Even then you will still hear people running on the deck to the doors. The only person who seemed to do anything was Martin. Hopefully he will still be on board and can help you. I informed him he was very helpful in my situation but I had no plans of EVER sailing RCI after this cruise (long story). I have booked Owners Suites many times and most are located under the pool deck or noisy part of the Windjammer...Poor poor design. My advice, bring ear plugs but maybe you can have a little better results.

That is strange that the most expensive cabins are under the pool deck now that I think about it.

We have a deck 6 cabin directly above the dining room on Liberty, should that be relatively quiet or should I look into getting it changed? After a bad experience with being surrounded by quad rooms on spring break, I'm always more concerned about not being beside a triple or quad than being on top of or below anything .

In the past, we have almost always booked a corner aft balcony. However, because of a recent rough ride and also because of the lack of shade, we decided to switch to midship hump and booked #9620 on THREE cruises! And, it's under the Royal Suite! Just when I think I know just about everything there is to know about deck plans, I learn something new. The Royal Suite having a piano would have never occurred to me until some nut started banging away at midnight. Maddening. I'm a light sleeper, too. Thank you, thank you, thank you for the head's up!!! I called immediately and, amazingly, #9320 on the starboard side was available.

We sailed on Voyager in Feb in room 1308. Every night about 4 they would wake us up for about half an hour. Then it would be gone.

Good Luck

Don't bother complaining. It did us no good.

Matt

I did complain, and it did us some good. HOWEVER, I was sure to tell them that I know their staff has to do their jobs, and the pool party one night was going to happen, so it was the STUFF THAT WASN'T SUPPOSED TO HAPPEN I was complaining about. The kids running overhead after curfew. They were really upset over that, and gave us a credit.

I also went to the Loyalty Ambassador and talked to her about it first, and let her deal with Customer Service. She emailed the manager directly while I was talking to her.

It's all about how you handle the complaint, IMO.

However, I agree with everyone, and my DH, too, that it doesn't make a lot of sense to charge extra for cabins that have this noise problem.

We really like the 24 series of JS. 9624 and 9324. 96 is the side with the RS, but is just 1 cabin back with a JS above it. Sure you'll have the slant of the hump, but being in the outer one we have never found it bad and also get less wind that way.

Not that I want you booking my room :D:D:D, but its a good idea I don't mind sharing.

Thanks, I will look to see what is available.......sheesh! Who would have thought that booking a particular cabin would entail so much research?

Since I am getting a center hump this time, 9318, I thought it would be nice to try the other side next time. Finding it available, I grabbed it. What good fortune!! HA.......

Being back one cabin, do you still have the great view you'd have in the center?

Decisions, decisions..........

I should have added that #9260 is under the Royal Suite on the Voyager class ships. I think we need to go to the "Cabin Selection" board and start a thread on noisy cabins. If time, I'll do it right now and hope that everyone will post there, too.

As I am sailing on Vogayer of the Seas in June, having booked an owner's suite on deck 10 under the pool deck, I am going to contact RCCL to raise my concerns about possible noise problem in the middle of the night.

I understand that the cleaners have to do their job to tidy the pool deck and put the sunbeds/chairs in place. But they don't have to wait till 3-4am to do the job. The sun sets long before midnight, and no guest will lie on the sunbed or swim in the outdoor pool at night. So management should make sure that all the necessary cleaning and dragging be done before midnight, unless there is a late night pool party on that evening.

Anyway not only will I be bringing my ear plugs, I'll also bring the noise-cancelling headphone which I usually take onto planes.

I just got off the phone with my TA and got my cabin changed from 9618 to 9318!! Whoo Hooo........:D

I decided to check and see if it was available (it wasn't when I booked) but it is........or rather, was, available.

Now I will be able to sleep at night.....:D;)

Hmmm, just read all the posts in this thread & now I'm a little worried about our OS (1650) on Liberty next month. We've stayed in several suites right below the pool deck on other lines & have never had much of a problem with noise (& DH is a very light sleeper). Just wonder if this is a problem with RCL ships & not other lines. Hopefully, at least according to bajathree, 1650 is partially under a carpeted area of one of the specialty restaurants & hopefully 1650's bedroom is that area!!

I do appreciate the heads up from all of you! Will just have to work it out IF noise becomes a problem!

Have never booked under pool deck before and now am worried about TA on Indy next year. We are in 1268, which looks like it's below the solarium area...anyone know if this is noisy for those below?

We usually book in JS below Windjammer and haven't had a problem with noise, we could hear some but it never disturbed our sleep, hope this won't be problem in 1268....

We were the "pole" cabin on Mariner (room 1388). Great size room, small balcony, never heard a peep above us, but twice we had to leave the room the sewer smell was so bad. Our steward said "sometimes it gets that way". The second time it was so bad, we had maintenance come down to see what the problem was. He said everything was fine, but I saw him a few minutes later working on plumbing lines in the crew stairwell. Not sure what it was, but it was ripe! This was an on-going problem throughout the cruise. Anyone else had this problem in this room on any of the voyager class ships?

We have been below the solarium and have heard noise. Cleaning, I guess.

It is not terribly bad and ear plugs should take care of it. We have heard noise under a lot of the "public" areas that are cleaned at night and any area which is conducive to rolling carts is problematic.

I dunno amybeth....I think I could compete with you as the lightest sleeper. ;) I do the same with my white noise machine...except mine has a headphone jack, so I wear headphones plugged in and blast the noise. I can't hear any outside noise that way. Not even my husband's snoring and that is like a Harley coming through the room!! He better wake me up if the alarm sounds. :)

No jack in mine. I can't imagine I'd be able to sleep with those things in my ears. One of my problems with earplugs, besides them falling out, is I sometimes pull them out in my sleep. And I'd do anything to be able to wear a mask at night but I pull that off in my sleep as well. I need a coffin. In a cave. With no noisy bats. :)

I cannot find the noise free cabins on the RCCL website, can anyone help, which ship advertises them?

Only kidding, enjoyed this thread and agree with most of you, but remember it a ship and most of us are there to have fun....and god forbid the pool chairs were not set up for next morning, then we would have another thread to start, oh wait, maybe thats the answer for our chair hoggers, eliminate the loungers altogether and we can just stay in bed.

Happy cruising

We had the same problem on the Majesty last week.

Just take some soft ear plugs to sleep with. You won't hear a thing.

Anyway, take the ear plugs and you'll be fine.

We were under the pool deck in a JS on the Mariner and the chair noise went on day and night. The problem with earplugs is you might not hear the emergency signals. Typically, fire alarm strobes in sleeping rooms are such high candela intensity that they are supposed to wake you up with just the strength of the strobe light.

I was in cabin 8050 (a JS) on the Grandeur back in February. It took us a couple of night to figure out what it was, but finally decided that since we were under the solarium it was chairs being moved - especially since it was too cold to sit out on deck. It may also have been carts rolling by to the cafe which was on the port side as well. It wasn't terribly annoying, but it was definitely noticeable and I wouldn't book that same cabin again because of it. Of course, if it means being on a cruise and that's the only cabin, left - I'll take it!

Don't bet on that....when I went up to see what all the noise was about at 4am I ran into a teenage girl (maybe 16) soaking wet in her bathing suit walking out to the pool area from inside by the elevator area.

And that, Pirate Steve, is when we call Customer Service. Curfew is 1 AM for anyone under 18, I believe, and they took it very seriously on the Majesty last week! That's what I complained about.

But curfew won't get rid of me. I'm one that likes to swim and use the hot tubs in the middle of the night.

I spent much time checking the locations of the OS's on IOS very very well for future reference....I would have to say the best selections for OS's are 1348(that is what I ended up choosing for my next sailing), 1650/1350....1340 is mid hump and i believe it's probably pretty quiet above it but I can tell you it's real busy in front of that room with traffic entering the hall from the elevator/stairway....1648 I would have a bit of reservation depending on hold loud things get next door from the Royal Suite, ie..piano and balcony hot tub. Now I talked to the person who was staying in 1320 and he told me he found no noise....well further investigation found that that person was not going to bed till 3am after long casino nights/drinking.....so the night i heard the noise the worst and was woken I walked across the hall to stand in front of his room and it was exactly the same as 1620, you could hear the deck chair noise right in the hall.

BTW....I did have a call left the next day from cust service saying that they could move me into a another room if I liked:rolleyes:...obviously a downgrade since all the OS's and RS were taken....so I didn't even respond to that offer.

Very well, but please be considerate -- don't drag the sun lounges or chairs on the pool deck -- I need my sleep!

I will say that i did see security bothering unattended kids several times, but not enough. My friend in the Royal suite had a terrible time with kids ringing the doorbell at around 1am...right around that curfew time. He called security several times and they disabled his doorbell.....the people next door in 1648 were having the same problem with ringing and running at 1AM. What he was annoyed at is that there are security cameras right in the hall viewing that cabin entrance very clearly and they never sent security when they would see kids hanging out there. The doorway of the Royal Suite is niched in and it became a haven for kids to hang out...believe me I saw groups of kids sitting in that entrance almost daily.....that is why I would have reservation about 1340 on the opposite even though it's center hump and one of the most so called "convented" cabins on the ship.
