Navigator review aug 30th

short and simple

 

food - buffet was low brow - missing some variety also -lunch no cakes no pies just small Chinese buffet style desserts- main dinning good lunch- ok some nights good others , day 1 no good. (worst of any 3 other lines i been on in 2 years as far as food quality) late night cafe promenade was a joke small cold sandwiches the same every night , got boring fast .

 

 

inside ship- modern looking very nice designs and clean ,one of the best ships i have been on looks wise inside.

 

staff- cruise director was a bore he should be an accountant or on celebrity ,-good comedy shows and great scooner bar singer. buffet staff disorganized- would often clear our table with rolled silver and full cups as we got our food. main dinning room service was a bit disorganized until notifying managers and things got much better as the cruise went a long. Staff overall was very friendly and managers eager to please.

 

 

i loved the itinerary and casino staff was wonderful. i was worried about the crowd from texas however most dressed for dinner and formal nights and probably the best most polite crowd on any ship i have been on.

 

boarding the ship was a snap, the Galveston port is annoying to get to when another ship is leaving , the set up was you pass the other ship and thousands of cars then get to be dropped off at your ship. (not royals fault but Galveston issue) delay disembarking (holiday customs issue) again not royals fault. Galveston needs to organize itself better.

 

I had a great time however would not go on this ship again as the food is a deal breaker for me, (i only hope this isnt a shipwide budget cut on food)

i forgot to add , getting water or a drink was a real pain on this ship. not enough drink stations, you had to beg staff to get a coffee in the buffet(sometimes out of cups). you would have to walk half the ship if you were at the aft and needed some water or iced tea.

Loved the Navigator! Sorry to see her leave this fall. Our MDR experience was wonderful and our waiters room great care to make our dining experience enjoyable. And I agree...the Texans were a great group to sail with.

the guests were great , best i have ever sailed with. polite well mannered and dressed appropriately. MDR other then the first night issues on quality and service was also good. i think our main waiter was pretty new and they give them so many tables to handle now.

 

the other food options left something to be desired and the drink stations were not easy to get to . if the buffet was closed there was no drink station outside either side of the pool deck.

On the August 23rd cruise there was water outside at the bar at both the regular pool and solarium pool. You just did it yourself from the big water with ice containers. Nice and easy. Was it different on your cruise?

Have always found any bar will give you a glass of iced water. No need to walk far.

If memory serves me right (was on the Nav last Oct)... If buffet is closed, water, tea, etc is available in the Solarium. And also at the Cafe Promenade. You can also get water at the bars.

I always read reviews keeping in my that my view of the same issue most likely will differ from what I am reading. That goes for the good items in a review as well as the negative.

 

Food is very subjective and if the food you had on Navigator would prevent you from cruising on her again, so be it. If you try another Royal ship, you may find the food variety, delivery, style of service different -- each ship takes alot of its food service queues from its on board Executive Chef.

 

On your cruise you had John Perry as CD. I have never personally been on a cruise with him, and when I cruise on Navigator in November, the CD will be Jerome Sueur, who I have not had either as a CD. A CD is responsible for scheduling activities on board and emcee's the nightclub and hosts various things around the ship. Whomever the CD is never can ruin a cruise for me, but they can sometimes make it better. People will appreciate your assessment of him, I am sure.

I didn't even know who the cruise director was on this cruise - he was invisible. Now, the activities director was a guy called Cuddy and he was great.

 

Glad to hear your opinion of Cuddy. Many people have enjoyed him as their AM and I look forward to having him when I sail on Navigator in November, since he will still be on there at that time.

I wonder where OP gets his preconceived notions about Texans? Liberal news media?

 

I am a transplanted Yankee and would rather sail with a boatload of Texans any day.

 

I wasn't born in Texas, but I got here as fast as I could!

 

But, as for the Navigator it was one of my least favorite RCCL ships, except for Sabor. We ended up eating in the specialty restaurants 5 of the 7 nights and would have eaten at Sabor a third time if we could have secured a reservation.
