Toilet Paper

Can I bring my own since mine is nice and soft? I'd hate to clog up the toilet in my stateroom, however, if it won't I have no problem putting a roll or two in my suitcase!
No. The toilet system is very sensitive and you'll screw it up not only for yourself but possibly many other cabins as well. Nothing upsets passengers more than a non-working toilet. (I speak from experience.) The TP used on cruise ships is for use in the system. I don't know what cruiselines do in the case of a passenger deliberately clogging the system but I wouldn't want to chance it.

That's kinda what I thought as I have to use special TP on our boat.....so thought the cruise ships probably were the same. And I agree......I sure don't want a clogged toilet. The way I eat on my cruises......I need my toilet working! LOL

on our cruise in june,we had a nasty mob of oz teens causing as much hassle as they could. They twice shoved toilet rolls. down the loos & therefore blocked them for 24 hours & more. This is a common occurence i was told.

1 teen female was the most disgusting, she took great delight in shouting abuse at aged cruisers every time she met any-which was often.Obviously her parents couldn't care less what she did.

We did ask if they could throw said teens overboard but didn't get a reply ):):

Hi There

I have been on cruises with high numbers of new cruisers, the Captain has had to due a talk about how to use ships loos due to the high numbers of break downs,

There is nothing worse on a cruise than loos not working,

Also been on boats were you bagged and took away with you.

yours Shogun

Where I live, we have a septic system instead of sanitary sewers. Guess what? All that cushy toilet paper they sell Northern double soft, super cushy pillow soft, doesn't break down in the tank. First time we had our septic cleaned, the guy said it was full of toilet paper! We need to use a certain kind for our septic. I imagine a ship is the same way. Strong enough to do the job but will break down in tank.

We had a similar problem on P&O 5 years ago and P&) dealt with the problem in the following way. We were told that the problem families were warned about their behaviour and when the parents ignored the warnings the kids were confined to their cabins until we reached the next port and then the families were removed from the ship and had to pay for their own flights home. I believe that it is at the captain's discretion that they were removed.

We don't have septic tanks, but when we bought our new house 4 years ago, we were specifically advised NOT to use certain brands; i.e. Charmin and Northern. Angel Soft OK.

You could always bring along some "flushable wipes" if you don't think the tp is going to be adequate, but be sure to bring along the little bags people use on dog walks. Throw the wipes in there and seal. The cabin stewards shouldn't have to deal with "toxic waste", but this would work for the benefit of all. I use the little bags for kleenex too. I'm not sure why they don't line the trash bins in the bathroom.

Just wondering why this would be moved from the Princess section where I posted this........since this question was in regard to a Princess cruise ship? One that I will be boarding on Wednesday.

Had a hell of a time finding where it was moved to! LOL

Princess doesn't line the trash cans. I find it rather yucky also. I feel like I need to wrap whatever I throw in there. :(

Ships don't line trashcans so it will be easier to sort- paper/glass/metal etc.

You should not have needed to search for it; should have automatically shown up in your user control panel. Be sure you have subscribed to it.

As for why it was moved, it really is a cruise question which would pertain to other lines and not just Princess.

on our cruise in june,we had a nasty mob of oz teens causing as much hassle as they could.

On our 4th cruise, a few teenagers were playing "knock-door-run" at about 2am on the first night. An announcement was made, and on the second night I was walking the deck late at night (I often do, it's extremely relaxing) and saw quite a few more security folks than usual in the accomodation deck corridors.

I spoke with one of them who told me that any teenagers caught playing knock-door-run would be escorted back to their cabin, and the entire family would be off-loaded at the next port. "Don't ever upset a Captain" was his advice...

On another cruise I was speaking with an engineering officer who told me that one of the most common reasons for a toilet to get blocked is someone losing their false teeth late at night, and that this tended to happen on a night when a lot of drink was being consumed (e.g. a formal night). I can't imagine why

If you made specific mention of a specific Princess cruise, it may not have been moved....glad you found your post. :)

The cruise ship toilet paper is definitely "John Wayne" toilet paper , but it is a necessary evil for the ships septic system to work correctly . We went with some friends who had an infant and the first day of the cruise ,there steward gave them a sheet with the do's and don'ts with dirty diapers and wet wipes and that included never under any circumstances flush a wet wipe cause it would clog the system. (Also if you are wondering what John Wayne TP is , it is rough and tough and won't take crap off of anyone !)

Thousands of little plastic bags they don't have to put in the trash or recycle.
