I took a move over offer and I have questions???

I took a move over offer on the June 1 sailing of the Regal. I am satisfied with the offer but I have nothing in writing, not to me or my travel agent. Is this normal? The princess agent said they don't send anything stating what I agreed to. The only thing I have is an email with the initial offer. Also I can't book with my regular travel agent. I have to use a princess agent only. For those who have taken a move over offer did you get everything you were promised? How long did it take to get the shore excursions you prepaid off your credit card? How much documentation did it take to get your airfare cancellation fees refunded? I appreciate any help you can give me with my questions. Thanks.

Yes the offer is legit. No, we didn't get anything in writing. Yes, you have to book thru the special office of Princess that handles move overs (NOT a regular Princess agent).

They tell you up to two cycles to see the excursion refund to your credit card; mine took about 2 weeks...maybe 3.

Have you already chosen and booked your replacement cruise or is that still "up in the air?" If you used Princess air, your cost will be "protected." That means that your air fare for your replacement cruise will not cost more than you've already paid; if it is less, you'll get a refund. If you booked air privately, they probably offered some sort of airline change fee back to you. You'll do better if you can figure out the replacement cruise and do an air change rather than a cancelation (with most airlines, anyhow).

The total cost of your original cruise is applied as a REFUNDABLE OBC on your new cruise. The new cruise is totally "free." And the remainder of the OBC again took about 3 weeks to come to me by check....they said 6 weeks, but it was about 3.

The replacement cruise is still up in the air. We booked our airfare using frequent flyer miles. The miles are already back in our accounts for a fee of course and the agent "said" we would get a full refund of our of taxes and fees for the flights. I don't want to turn anything into princess till we know for sure the amount we are out. The offer included up to $900 per person for cost of cancelling or changing airfare and hotels. It was a good offer but I am sad I will not be sailing on the first.

I actually did get a confirmation in writing from Princess when we accepted a moveover offer in January. It included a new booking number which we referenced when we called back to book our replacement cruises. The pseudo booking appeared in the Cruise Personalizer by the way.

We received reimbursement for our excursions very quickly, I want to say it was the next day or day after that. It appeared as a credit on our credit card.

As for getting reimbursement for cancellation fees, I need to get that to them yet. We used miles for our outbound flights and EZAir for the return. I took screen shots of the cancellation fees because United didn't email a receipt. Would suggest that you mail it to your contact as emails are going to their spam folders more often than not these days.

Did you TA deal with Princess on your behalf or did you talk to them directly? We use a TA but she forwarded the original offer to us and we've been dealing direct with Princess on booking both cruises. Maybe that's why I received the confirmation in writing? In any event you should have nothing to worry about. They will honor the deal they made to you. Congratulations!

We are preparing to do our second move over in Sept. The first all went perfect. Gave up a 2 week South American cruise and had a free 28 day Med. cruise. Travelled in a full suite with refund of unused SBC and air costs. The second was a two week cruise for which we will be doing a 28 day Trans Atlantic starting in CA ending in Australia. Also in a full suite. Original was a balcony ungraded to a mini before offer, so offer included a full upgrade in cabin which became a full suite of our choice. Added bonus was having all tips included. We have learned to ask for extras from what they offer. Enjoy your cruise and you can always do the one you gave up another time.

We received a Move over Offer 10 days before our 28 day cruise from Singapore to Rome. Like you, I wanted it in writing but as I was booked for another 29 day Princess cruise we chose that as the free cruise (I could have chosen a cruise up to 35 days and we lost the extra 6 days - but cancelling the Singapore to Rome meant my husband could finish his work project and that was very important to him). I received a confirmation of the new cruise that went to my junk mail but I rang the next day and they sent it again and were happy to do so. I was told my pre-booked excursions would be cancelled with the amount going back to my credit card and yes it was there within a week. I was told I would receive up to $2000 for the two of us for travel cancellation. This only came to nearly $1000 but I also sent in a claim for a train we needed to catch to the north of Italy and the cost of our Indian visas (both of which we were not using). I only received the amount for the flights to Singapore (nearly $1000) and I received that 2 weeks after. All in all, I think we are on top going from obstructed window to balcony and we are very happy.

I live in the hope of a move over offer but certainly won't hold my breath. I congratulate those who have gotten these offers and were able to take them and commiserate with those who got the offers but were unable to accept. We are greatly looking forward to our next cruise but would take a move over in a heartbeat.

Thank you everyone for your responses. I feel better about having nothing in writing. The shore excursions were refunded last night on my credit card. I never thought to negotiate for a longer cruise or tips being included. I will do better if I ever get another move over offer. :D

We took a move over offer with only a few hiccups.

Original cruise: 9 days in Japan, interior, booked our own air using credits/miles

New cruise: 11 days Baltic a week later, obstructed OV.

We emailed a copy of the flight change statement to Princess, and it took a couple of phone calls to get the credit processed. They'd offered $1000 ($500 each) but ended up reimbursing the whole $1400 difference.

The value of the original fare was OBC on the new cruise, and all our shareholder benefits, casino comps, etc. were moved over to the new cruise. Only the airfare reimbursement was wrinkly, but the people managing the process were very nice.

The original offer, also, was for a cruise 'up to 10 days' long, but since we were taking, essentially, a last-minute cabin on the Baltic cruise, the agent was able to authorize the longer trip, and gave us a better cabin.

Ultimately, we were just as happy with our vacation, and were glad we had the opportunity to choose from many options.

But, move fast. They process the move-over offers in the order that people respond, so if you have any flexibility, jump in fast.

Although you can negotiate, if you hold out for more you could always lose out entirely on the opportunity to get the moveover if someone else who has gotten the offer has accepted in the interim. As I recall from our roll call, azgrandmax told them what they wanted and were initially told "have a nice cruise" by Princess. But Princess really needed their cabin and called them back agreeing to their terms. We were on the same cruise and accepted the first offer of one or two cruises totaling 18 days (we're taking one 11 day and one 7 day cruise). This happened 15 days before the cruise. Our cruise was seriously oversold so it's not a surprise that within a week they sweetened the offer to 21 days, and then azgrandmax was able to apparently negotiate the great offer of 28 days. Our cruise was sold out a good 6 months before embarkation with many folks awaiting news of cabin assignments. So it was no surprise that they offered quite a few moveover offers for this cruise - more than 20 folks on our roll call alone accepted!

Update on the refund for having our United miles redeposited and the cancellation fee from a third party vendor....

This thread was a reminder that we never received these amounts back from Princess. I re-forwarded the email to our contact in Princess inventory and to my surprise she called right back. She said she could issue a check which could take a couple of weeks or if we preferred, she would add it to the refundable OBC on our first replacement cruise. We opted for the latter and see it there already in the payments and credits section of the CP. Glad they are able to get emails again and also happy that it has been processed!
