EatonDoolittle Posted July 1, 2018 #1 Share Posted July 1, 2018 Yesterday, Ulf posted on his FB page that they have a new boat. It is a catamaran, with some shade available, and the original Woodwind will be retired. No exact date was given, but it appears to be coming soon. Barwick Cruiser Posted July 1, 2018 #2 Share Posted July 1, 2018 That's good to hear, especially about the shade part. We are booked with Woodwind in January and from what I've read the only downside to their excursions is that there isn't any escape from the sun...this should solve that. I'm not on FB could you post a pic of the new boat if there's one? Thx
EatonDoolittle Posted July 1, 2018 Author #3 Share Posted July 1, 2018 Someone with more tech ability will need to copy and paste a photo here. Someone on FB asked him if it will be running in October, and he said yes, so you will be on it in January for certain. It looks quite nice. It's a typical looking cat that one sees all over the islands. It's not huge, so they probably will not increase their passenger count by much - I think plus or minus 20 is the max now. In addition to ladders on the back of both sides, there are steps up into the boat, which will alleviate another complaint of the aging cruiser population, ease of access in and out of the water. There is also a nice dive platform back there so you can toss your flippers up before you climb in. In the existing boat, if there does not happen to be a crew member right there to assist, you are on your own to struggle in. The galley is roomy and bright, which I'm sure the crew will appreciate - no more lunch prep in that dark hole.

caribbean2000 Posted July 17, 2018 #7 Share Posted July 17, 2018 Dee & Ulf and their crew work so hard to ensure everyone has a great time on Woodwind and I'm sure the new boat will be a big hit with everyone. We've sailed with them 5+ times and it is ALWAYS great. One thing that we appreciate (versus similar operations elsewhere in the Caribbean) is that they sincerely appreciate the business from cruise ship passengers and you will never hear the subtle dissing of cruise ships that we've heard more than a few times on sailing/snorkeling excursions we've taken off about 15 islands. Dee and her crew are always respectful, friendly and totally professional and this is one of the reasons we will always book with them when we return to Bonaire. And of course, the snorkeling is the absolute BEST we've ever experienced.

ChuckL Posted August 2, 2018 #10 Share Posted August 2, 2018 Does anyone know if the passenger capacity increased with the new Woodwind? I believe that it was previously 25. Sent from my iPhone using Forums
mac66 Posted August 20, 2018 #11 Share Posted August 20, 2018 Good news. As much as I liked their old boat the new one should be good to go. We will be on it next February with the whole family.

Blanq Posted August 21, 2018 #14 Share Posted August 21, 2018 Yet another reason to return to Bonaire. I long to be in that place, and our Woodwinds snorkel was a highlight!

NateUpNorth Posted October 19, 2018 #19 Share Posted October 19, 2018 For those who have done the tour as cruise ship guests, the Woodwind website says the meeting point is about 3 or 8 minutes walk from the docking piers, depending on which one you are at. (under a "Casino" sign by a gate) Would you say that is accurate? And was it easy to locate? Thanks in advance!
EatonDoolittle Posted October 19, 2018 Author #20 Share Posted October 19, 2018 It is easy to locate - just follow the waterfront. 3 to 8 minutes seems optimistic to me, tho, maybe more like 10 to 15 (unless one speed walks.) Certainly doable.
topspot Posted December 17, 2018 #21 Share Posted December 17, 2018 We sailed with Woodwind on Dec. 1, on their new catamaran. There is plenty of shade, and also an inside section on their new boat with a bathroom and 2 bedrooms. There was also the trampoline section up front where I believe there were 2 trampolines and we were asked to make sure there were no more than 10 (If I remember correctly). There were about 22 people on our trip, but I forget what the total capacity was. Our excursion was not full. I believe the walk was accurate 3 to 8 minutes. Dee was a great hostess, and our snorkel group was led by Nicole who would free dive to point things out to us.

The entrance at the casino is well marked with a large "Woodwind" sign and a man was there to check my name off as I went into the waiting area (they had chairs/benches). I was nervous about finding them but it was very easy...

Took the tour Dec 12th. The snorkeling was very good. Two interesting reefs. Separated into two groups based on experience. I wasn't hungry afterward, but the food looked better than I was getting on the ship...lolol. A plate of noodles and meat, local fare?
