A few questions on a Rome airport to cruise port transfer on the day of departure.

1) What is the transfer cost per person?

2) How does Princess handle a 7:00AM arrival in Rome FCO via EZair flights when the ship leaves at 7:00PM?

Thanks

RB

Years ago, we did a ship transfer... they pick you up, take you to a staging area - i.e., local hotel... keep you there til they start to fill buses to the ship. We only did this once, decided we were too tired to enjoy ourselves the first day. From then on we book air one or two days in advance, stay at the Hilton @FCO, hotel runs a shuttle to center of Rome so we can enjoy the city for a few days before the cruise. Then we book a private transfer from the hotel to the ship, use Romecabs.com Book on line, pay on day of service in euro.. runs about $500 US. for the door to door service, for us that is the way we prefer over a bus transfer. We used this service both ways. Excellent well worth the cost.

We’ve taken the transfer there but never arrive on the same day as embarkation. Sorry but I don’t recall the price. We’ve also taken the train from Termini station on our own for around 20-30 euros as I recall. It all depends on how comfortable you are in Rome on your own and making your own way.

If there is any doubt just take the transfer although it’s been our experience that you are on your own to find a place to wait until Princess agents arrive at baggage claim around noon to begin arranging bus loading etc.

I would recommend using a private transfer to the port from the airport. We used Rome Cab and we got other cruisers to share with us that were arriving at the same time through cruise critic. It made the cost quite reasonable and it was much more comfortable than the bus. Cost of transfer to port from airport would be around 180 euros.

A bit of advice, never arrive on embarkation day!!!! Not worth the hassle of missed flights, strikes, etc..... Great Hilton right at the airport. Stay there and then if you must meet up with your Princess transfer the following day at the airport. The Hilton is right at the airport. You do not need any cabs, etc. make your way back to the airport follow the guided path and voila meet your ship transfer albeit pricy. Or do as we do, simply take the train!!1

Yes this is the easiest . We stayed at the airport Hilton for 6 nights using Hilton Honor points & booked into the Exceutive floor & eat for free in the Executive lounge ,saved about $2000 in the high cost Rome restaurant costs .Used their tour bus free to get in & out of Rome & used the HOHO bus in Rome;which was great .did a Viator.com tour of the museum ,Sistene Chapel & St Peters Bascillica .Joined others at the hotel & shared a Rome cabs to the cruise port .So easy ,seamless with no hassles ,cheap per person cost & we were on the ship the fastest we have ever boarded in 80 cruises:D

Guess we are a bit more adventurous than some.

Earlier this year stayed in Rome for three nights taking metro to downtown train station and taxi to hotel.

Went on some nice local tours and the morning of our cruise took taxi to train station and than train to port. Cost 5 Euros for train (shocked how cheap that was) and than easy walk to port entrance for shuttle to ship. Very easy got to ship about 12 and boarded immediately.

Doing basically the same thing this December.

However people should do what is most comfortable for themselves.

Yes, that Hilton Rome is awesome and right there at the airport. Yes, a bit of a walk alongside the parking garages but all inside. Have stayed there three times now. And the free bus brings us right downtown to near The Colisseum if I recall. My guys especially liked the little babybel cheese at breakfast in the lounge.

We did this in August and it worked very well for us. We had an early flight from our local airport in the UK and landed in FCO at 9.30 am. Princess greeters were there to meet us at the entrance to the baggage hall and once we had collected our bags we were directed to a waiting area with others. (Didn't have long to wait). The group were then escorted through the airport to the waiting bus. Our luggage was loaded onto a separate van and we didn't see it again until it was outside our cabin door a few hours later. The bus filled up pretty quickly and we were then on our way to the port - took about 50/60 mins I think. The terminal was very quiet when we arrived and we were on board in minutes. We had about 30 mins to wait until the cabins were ready at 1.00 pm. The ship was very quiet as I guess people staying on board for the next leg of the cruise had mostly disappeared off on excursions. It was pleasant not having to face a scrum in the buffet for lunch. The one way trip cost us £55 per person. I think we may have been able to do it a bit cheaper by taking a taxi, but we felt the cost was worth it to take the stress out of finding our way through an unfamiliar airport, and also not have to bother with our cases after they were taken at the airport. I believe I did read on another thread that the shuttles started at about 9.30 am.
