I've just heard RCI are charging people for using the escape room on the newly refurbished "independence of the seas".

Is this true ...... if so .... why ??

That pretty much says it all. It was like $8/pp on Harmony and well worth it.

Paying for it means people will show up for it as it doesn' work of there isn' a group.

 

Paying for it also keeps the popularity down, again meaning that the peope that do it actually want to do it so then it works.

It has gone up to like $18 pp on all the ships. We paid $8 pp and I did not think it was worth it, would never in a million years pay $18 pp. We will never do it again.

Escape rooms that I have been to are generally more than that even. I think the prices are right in line with what you see on land escape rooms.

How many people participate at a time?

IIRC 12 to 14. It's not just "you". It's whoever has signed up for that time.

On the Harmony 6 is the minimum needed and I think the max was 12-15. [it depended on how many were in the last group they signed up. [at least it did on the TA--and it was free on that cruise]

A good escape room is a lot of fun and our entire group of eight is signed up on our June 2 Harmony cruise. I waited and didn't book immediately, but still booked very early (like 8 weeks before the cruise) and couldn't get our preferred time. Now all times are completely booked. So even at $20/person, it's very popular.

 

I'll report back on how it compares to land-based rooms after the cruise.

Yeah, $8. This was last May though. It must be pretty popular for them to double the price. :o $19 is pretty steep but still less than you'd pay on land. $8 was a no brainer, $19, still probably worth it if you like that kind of thing.

It's a shame really. In the end, it'll be like centre parks. The only free thing will be the swimming pool ..... Lol .... I can feel it going that way .....
