tx121 Posted September 25, 2017 #1 Share Posted September 25, 2017 We will be boarding the NCL Jewel in a little over 1 week in route to Hawaii! Very excited. What worries me is 2 things. First one being minor- as I hear the waters during a trans Pacific can be very rough. Have any others experienced this crossing and describe the sea conditions? Second one is with the whole situation with the US and North Korea at the moment and their crazy president shooting missles into the Pacific. Who knows if he will try to shoot a longer range one close to Hawaii.Ugh! Can't we just have world peace?
Rare BostonGal35 Posted September 25, 2017 #2 Share Posted September 25, 2017 seas on a TA are generally rougher, as you dont have the protection of land nearby. but it should not be crazy. as for north korea, if its your day, its your day. go enjoy your cruise. OceanDreaming2 Posted September 25, 2017 #3 Share Posted September 25, 2017 We've done a few trans-Pacific cruises (out of LA or SF) and the water's been smooth. As for the situation with Korea, it scares the daylights out of me too. Keep watching the NCL website for any updates regarding your cruise. Good luck and enjoy! ColinIllinois Posted September 25, 2017 #4 Share Posted September 25, 2017 Don't worry about North Korean missiles. They are most likely to shoot them at Carnival ships instead of Norwegian. At least that's what the latest National Security Agency intel report states.

I have always believed that as well. If that was your day to go, then that is the day. At least my last days on earth would be on a cruise!! What a way to go, eh? lol
Bootman4U Posted September 25, 2017 #6 Share Posted September 25, 2017 I think there is more than ONE "crazy President" at work on this situation. What you have "heard" about the Pacific is entirely dependent upon the weather.
ricksurf Posted September 25, 2017 #7 Share Posted September 25, 2017 We have done the Transpacific cruises during this time of year via Hawaii from Los Angeles and the seas have been very calm. As for North Korea; I'm sure that the rhetoric will be still going on by the time you get back to Canada.
pspercy Posted September 25, 2017 #8 Share Posted September 25, 2017 We did Vancouver to Hawaii in Sept 2014, seas mostly smooth tho' obviously some underlying ocean swell. Very pleasant. We had booked Jewel for HNL - PPT but had to cancel, couldn't afford airfare to get home!! Have a great trip:)
casofilia Posted September 25, 2017 #9 Share Posted September 25, 2017 If it all blows up then I think Guam is more likely a target than Hawai'i. Hope that all is well there when we go to join the Jewel in the middle of October.
Ask4Jay Posted September 25, 2017 #10 Share Posted September 25, 2017 OP: you are sailing the Pacific Ocean. Pacific = calm and peaceful. And as the sand box is concerned, those two juveniles will keep on taunting “am not!” “are too”. Ignore them and enjoy the cruise.J
Minoushka Posted September 25, 2017 #11 Share Posted September 25, 2017 We had 5 days of very smooth crossing ...never sawnother ship anywhere
garycarla Posted September 25, 2017 #12 Share Posted September 25, 2017 As to the NK think... not much.. okay, nothing you can do. The good news, the world is REALLY big, so even a few missiles will easily miss you. Sorry if being a bit flip... but it just is nothing you or we can do with these children playing in the sand box. casofilia Posted September 25, 2017 #14 Share Posted September 25, 2017 Just get on board and enjoy the cruise; we intend to do just that when we board in Honolulu.
casofilia Posted September 25, 2017 #15 Share Posted September 25, 2017 Also don't worry about the weather, the ship will put out the stabilizers and you may not feel a thing. We missed Ketchikan a few years ago because of a Force 10 gale, stabilizers out for over 2 days and it looked rough outside but was great inside. Enjoy. KruzPrincess Posted September 27, 2017 #16 Share Posted September 27, 2017 I'be sailed across the Pacific 5 times to/from So. CA. None were very rough. A couple were smooth as glass. You can't predict the weather. Sent from my iPad using Forums

casofilia Posted September 28, 2017 #18 Share Posted September 28, 2017 The waters from Tsawwassen to Vancouver Island, from Dover to Calais, from Wellington to Picton can be very rough. The sea anywhere in the world can be very rough. You are on a large vessel with great stabilizers enjoy the cruise, even rough waters will be smoothed on the Jewel!! The captain will keep you out of danger.
