Oh wait I found it! It’s called Marmalade.

He talked about it in post #34 of this thread (hopefully the link works because I don’t know how to do this)

Marmalade is a fantastic restaurant in San Juan.

One of the reasons we fly in the day before a cruise.

Make reservations!!!!!

Yep, post #34 of that review. Tripadvisor #1 of 823 restaurants in San Juan. GF and I still talk about that evening. We did the full-on 6 course wine pairing. You likely won't get in without a reservation. Fun as heck and then salsa afterwards at a local bar.

But when the bill comes just don't look at it... seriously.... yes, it's that expensive. Pass over your credit card and do not look at your statement when you get home. ;p

We have also enjoyed Raices many times.
Another vote for Raices.

Dang.... my hotel on that trip was just 1/2 block away from this place at the Hotel Cervantes where we stayed.

In fact had Mofongo right next door at a restaurant called Genesis...was just ok, wouldn't go back

I'll try Raices next time for sure.

Thx guys :D

Try the big pork chop, I've never seen anything like it elsewhere.

Marmalade is a great restaurant, no doubt. But I would never call it local. It's more fusion of Puerto Rican and something else.

Raices is Puerto Rican, as is El Jibarito. And some of the restaurants that are on either side of Raices are also very Puerto Rican.

That giant port chop I mentioned is called the Kan Kan Pork Chop.
Love a good pork chop!!

Can you get it for lunch? We'll be there next February on Adventure.

I can't remember the name but it's owner by a former New York Yankee pitcher, I'm sure someone will let us know. It's not far from the airport.

J.

Lupi’s, owned by Ed Figueroa.
