I can't remember the name but it's owner by a former New York Yankee pitcher, I'm sure someone will let us know. It's not far from the airport.

Hoopster has a detailed review on here somewhere where he talked about a really nice (but expensive) restaurant that he raved about and said was great. Maybe he’ll chime in, or someone will remember where that thread was??

Yep, post #34 of that review. Tripadvisor #1 of 823 restaurants in San Juan. GF and I still talk about that evening. We did the full-on 6 course wine pairing.You likely won't get in without a reservation. Fun as heck and then salsa afterwards at a local bar.

But when the bill comes just don't look at it... seriously.... yes, it's that expensive. Pass over your credit card and do not look at your statement when you get home. ;p

Dang.... my hotel on that trip was just 1/2 block away from this place at the Hotel Cervantes where we stayed.

In fact had Mofongo right next door at a restaurant called Genesis...was just ok, wouldn't go back

Try the big pork chop, I've never seen anything like it elsewhere.

We have also enjoyed Raices many times.

Marmalade is a great restaurant, no doubt. But I would never call it local. It's more fusion of Puerto Rican and something else.

Raices is Puerto Rican, as is El Jibarito. And some of the restaurants that are on either side of Raices are also very Puerto Rican.

I just looked this up on trip advisor. I will add it to my list. Thanks!

Given the size, I'd rather have Carne Frita (fried pork chunks) than Chuleta Kan-Kan- just way too big.

Sounds great! We usually get a pail full of the Medalla beer too. Lee likes the Mofongo.

We had some fantastic Tapas in San Juan.

Would recognise the bar as soon as I saw it. No idea what it was called though. Seem to recollect it was near a Starbucks
