Celebrity summit need to know compared to other lines.

I've searched past threads and didn't find what I'm looking for. We usually cruise NCL but in the last two years did Carnival and RCL. Each time we get surprised on a new line. Like on Carnival and RCL we couldn't communicate by app. Also on those likes we couldn't book shows and events in advance. Also on those ships there were a spa lounge and we missed that. This Celebrity cruise is the only one that fits our schedule. Tell me about the differences I can expect. Thanks.

Each cruise line has its fans and its demographic, but I've sailed all of these, so I'll give you my thoughts (keep in mind that I'm 61.)

The celebrity app doesn't really work on any of their ships, so no worries there. Frankly , the worst thing celebrity does is anything having to do with IT (have you visited their website?)

Celebrity has enough seating in the showrooms that you don't NEED to book ahead.

You will likely find less children, less noise, and less rowdy people than RCL, NCL and Carnival ships.

You will probably find that the shows on NCL were better, but the music around the ship is better and more is offered on Celebrity.

You will absolutely find better, classier service and much better food than what you received on NCL and Carnival (except maybe the specialty restaurants on NCL, which we thought were outstanding - a bit better than celebrity specialty restaurants.)

You'll find a welcome aboard glass of bubbly, freshly rolled cloth towels in the restrooms, and be welcomed back on board after a hot day in port with a cool drink and an iced, chilled towel. There will be a show each night, some production and some guest entertainers that will be repeated early and later to accommodate both early and late diners. There is no need to make reservations for any of the shows, as there is ample seating. You'll find less silly pool games, and no belly flop contests. The service will be excellent, the atmosphere will be more sophisticated, but not stuffy.

Celebrity is different than NCL, Carnival and RCI. Celebrity is more laid back. You will not hear the CD every hour advising you of the next hour's activities. You get the schedule and it is up to you to read it and decide what you want to do. Celebrity will not have belly flop contests..they will have some fun things and often do passengers vrs officers. Dancing with the Stripes was a favorite activity that we enjoyed watching.

The Summit itself is an older ship so it does not have all the bells and whistles of the newer ships.

We have been on the Summit several times and have enjoyed the experience. The food quality was always great and the crew was totally amazing. The Martini Bar is a fun spot...if you can get a seat at the bar.

As noted...you do not need reservations for shows...the Summit is more like the traditional cruise with ship production shows featuring the singers and dancers. There will be the guest singers, comedians, magicians. Summit does not have the full length Broadway production shows that some newer ships offer.

We have sailed other lines but prefer Celebrity and absolutely LOVE the Summit. It is laid back and comfortable with excellent food and friendly staff. One or two overhead announcements per day. To the extent that you need to read the daily or you might miss activities.

We normally cruise rccl, but was impressed by summit buffet for breakfast and lunch was really much better than rccl, also liked there suite perks

1000% agree. My DH was trying to get me back on Anthem this winter, but I said I'd rather save that money and put it towards Celebrity. I just wish they sailed from NY/NJ all year long like RCCL.

I don't understand why the food on RCCL can't be better.

On the other hand rccl entertainment is so much better, reason we did our celebrity was because it was a music charter with Micheal McDonald , air supply, bj Thomas America and others

We have done 4 RCCL cruises and other than their big shows like Grease, We Will Rock You, Hairspray, etc. their overall entertainment is no better than Celebrity. As a matter of fact we have seen the same "guest" entertainers on both lines.

Anthem's Spectra's Cabaret and The Gift are no better than any show I have seen on Celebrity, maybe even worse. So, personally, I don't buy RCCL's entertainment is better.

I have enjoyed my Royal Caribbean cruises. As far as the entertainment being better, after you've seen Grease, Hairspray etc., a zillion times and are down to the guest entertainers head to head, I find it no better. I do prefer the service on Celebrity and the more sophisticated atmosphere so much more. I also find the food on Celebrity to be a step up and enjoy the smaller ships and the more adult atmosphere. Finally, I prefer Murano to anything found on Royal.

I was extremely disappointed in entertainment on my first celebrity cruise , but really like smoking policy and many other things, will try them again. But looking forward to my oasis cruise , with ice show, cats and other entertainment .

Cats? Oh, I assume you mean the show.

For a brief moment, my mind was picturing clowders of cats invading the casino and dining rooms.

Thank you all!! So good to know! I will love the lack of smoke in the casino. As to the constant barrage of announcements into your cabin (even if you have the option of turning it down I still hear it blaring in the halls) why do the cruise lines do this?!? No one I talk to appreciates this and most hate it. Apart from the shopping discussions or bingo they don't make money from pushing these activists on people so I don't get why they do this! We like our naps and they are often interrupted.

Can someone tell me what their daily sheets are called so I can look for some from past sailings? Thanks.

Differences--no embarkation lunch in MDR like NCL unless you do Concierge Class. Not a lot of upselling, except for drink packages on Day 1 and 2 of the cruises. No additional tips charged on drink packages unlike NCL who charges 20% tips even when given as a perk. If you buy the drink package and do not get it as a perk I believe Celebrity does charge 18% gratuity on it; NCL entertainment is a little better IMO. A little older demographic with less children on board

Similarities--NCL has Anytime dining, Celebrity has Select dining; good drink packages and you also only pay the difference if a drink you like is over your package limit; good itineraries and ships normally; similar size between jewel class and summit I believe with similar number of passengers. NCL probably has better Children's programs, but as we do not have children cannot say for sure.

I hope this helps. We like both lines and switch based on itinerary and pricing. We do like that you can do an inside and get drink package on NCL. On Celebrity you must have OV or better for this and other perks usually.
