New to Celebrity - feeling out of my element

Recommended Posts

My husband and I are booked on our first Celebrity Cruise in May. We will be on the Summit going to Bermuda. I figure Celebrity is similar to Royal Caribbean in a lot of ways. I'm sorry if these questions have all been asked a million times, but...

Can I use my Crown & Anchor (RC) status for priority check in with Celebrity?

I've never been on a cruise where the ship docked for 3 days. What is it like on the ship on those days? Is there usually things going on, on board?

Depending on your C&A status, you receive equivalent status in Celebrities Captains Club. Just call Royal or Celebrity and get a Captains Club number.

There are activities while docked and Casino is open in the evening.

Celebrity's loyalty program (Captain's Club) has it's own perks, but if you are at least Platinum status with RCI's Crown & Anchor you qualify for being recognized at the equivalent level. You need to call Captain's Club (the phone number is on Celebrity's website) to enroll; be sure to inform them of your status with RCI so they can ensure you receive any reciprocal status you qualify for. If you are at least Platinum with RCI, you will be eligible for priority check-in. However, just like with RCI, on Celebrity some cruises 80% or so of those sailing qualify for priority check-in. As such, take a peak at the regular (no priority line) before heading to the priority line you qualify for (as it is sometimes has a shorter line).

There will still be activities scheduled when the ship is in port overnight, but likely less than there would be if it was a sea day. In general a difference between RCI and Celebrity is that RCI is a bit more energetic and activity focused, whereas Celebrity in general is a bit more geared towards a relaxing, slightly more upscale experience than lots of action.

To the OP

Bermuda is a beautiful place.

I do hope you will get off the ship and enjoy it.

There is much to do in Bermuda- beautiful beaches, golf, water sports , historical sights, an aquarium, crystal caves, shopping and some fine dining.

My suggestion is to read about Bermuda tourism on the internet or look at some travel guide books before your cruise. This way, you will be familiar with attractions and activities that might interest you.

I didn't know that the ship casino was open in the evening while docked. Is this new? If so, maybe I need to look into a cruise to Bermuda.

Just a few things.....

When you call the Captain's Club be sure to have your Crown & Anchor numbers handy. The representative will need it to process your membership/

Definitely choose the shortest line when you check in. Everything is done by computer now and they no longer have to leave their desks to hunt for your sea pass card.

The Summit is very easy to navigate. There are three elevator banks so you can quickly get to the activities on deck 10. The Solarium pool is covered so you can still enjoy the therapy pool even in inclement weather.

The Summit docks at King's Wharf which is either a ferry or bus ride from Hamilton. You can wander around the old fort area with its shops and bars and restaurants. Last year there were a few craftspeople set up there too.

From Hamilton you can catch a bus around the island stopping at the caves and botanical gardens as well as the Swizzle Inn and the town of St. George.

There are busses and ferries to the beaches as well. The schedules are posted at the pier.

Enjoy your cruise.

Have you joined your roll call for the cruise? You can get a lot of info from people you will be cruising with.

We are going the 13th and several on the roll call have been many times.

Hope you enjoy celebrity and your cruise.

Another difference between Royal and X is that on X there is no indoor smoking, and so the casino is smoke free. That is a big plus for me since I can't enjoy the casino areas on Royal ships, or even walk through them due to an extreme smoke sensitivity. On Royal ships when walking from forward to aft on the casino deck, I've got to go up or down a deck, pass over or under the casino area and then return.
