casino credits

I could see the option to purchase Casino Credits on line in my cruise personalizer before Christmas. It is now gone. I just called Princess and the agent could not explain why the option to purchase on line is now gone but you can still but they through Princess on the phone. I asked if they were still being issued as certificates that you take to the casino to cash in or are they now being posted into your on board account. Was on hold for sometime while she found me the answer. She came back and said that it is now being added to your on board accounts.

My question is if I use these credits in the casino and gamble and have a good night can I cash in my chips in the evening for my winnings or are they just put back on your on board account? You must be able to cash in your chips for cash? New to the casino on Princess. Thanks.

You can cash in your chips. Your cruise card is used for slots or the electronic poker table (Texas Hold 'Em). Those funds can stay on the card or be cashed out at the cage.

OK, Mina...talk me through this. How easy is this system? How do you create an account on the slot machine? Did you have to put all $100 on the machine or could you just have put a small amount? I assume you do not "cash out" like you used to with the old slot machines. So how do you "cash out"? How easy is it to put the "winnings" back on the card and when you take the card back to the cashier is that when you cash in your "winnings"?

Thanks for the info. Going in March. Not sure if I trust this system, but really want to call Princess soon and get casino credits like everyone else.

It is very easy. You put your card in the machine, put in your pin and select a denomination you want to charge. I think it is up to 300 per day. The amount is loaded into the machine. You then can transfer the amount back to your card and go to the cashier to get dollars. However, if you do not play a round on the machine before you transfer the amount back, they will put a hold on your card so it does not work in the machine any longer.

Thanks, Mina. Appreciate the info. My husband and I do like to play a bit (we did pretty good in Vegas at the penny machines ;)) so we would probably like to play for some time. However, that being said, if we are not having luck, I still want the option to cash out, or even if we do win, I would like to cash out even more. I figured in the end they could not make you keep the money as on board credit. I thought you should be able to take the chips or casino card to the cashier and get your money. I will call soon and get my casino cash for the cruise. Thanks.

I noticed my next cruise doesn't have the option to purchase casino credits in the personalizer but each of the following ones do? Can I just use the obc option or am I better off calling and making sure to get casino credits?

I have brought 3 lots of casino credits....1 for husband to use at the casino. the other two I learnt that you can cash in for money, I did this because the us$ exchange rate that princess is giving aussie when buy OBC is much better than we can get here for cas, I need us currency for tips and a tour that I booked in Cambodia, I have read on a facebook page that casino credits are now added to OBC .l...is this true then why do they have a extra section to buy casino credits if this is going to happen......how will I get the extra us currency on the ship now we are on the princess sapphire

Here's a suggestion to get the cash you need:

In the next port, spend money for a taxi and go to a currency exchange and pay the fee to exchange money. Or head to the ATM in the casino and withdraw the money, paying the ATM Fee. Or find a bank where you can get a CASH ADVANCE on your credit card. Those are the HONEST ways to get the cash you desire.

I spend a good deal of time in the casino and enjoy the PRIVILEGE of purchasing casino credits prior to sailing as well as charging casino credit to my room-- SO THAT I CAN GAMBLE IN THE CASINO.

I am glad that Princess is in the process of closing the loophole that allows people to CHEAT the system. Using the casino as a Free ATM costs the cruise line money since ultimately you are paying for your vouchers that you convert back to cash with a credit card.

Previously, Princess charged a 3% Fee to obtain credit in the casino. They dropped that fee to encourage CASINO PLAY, not to facilitate currency exchange or create a fee free ATM.

How much are you really trying to save by making Princess pay credit card processing fees to provide you with free cash?

You don't see it because you don't have an open booking, I've been buying vouchers for cruise credits for years, but used the form and faxed it in. Now that you can purchase them within the booking, the statement about it appearing as onboard credit is new. I board the Emerald in a couple weeks, I will report back what the real deal is.:D

There were vouchers in our room just as in the past... Pieces of paper that I took to the cashiers cage. The Emerald was in great shape and we had a marvelous time on her.

The website when ordering these now says that it will be given as OBC, which sounds like no more pieces of paper as was in the past when it specifically said 'casino vouchers'.

To the OP, this now requires an extra step in getting cash. You will need to create a slot account, charge money to that account via a slot machine, then ask to 'cash out' your card at the cashier cage.

THANK YOU! This is new information for me. I have budgeted for some Casino Slots Playing, so I could add my Taxi Money for the Disembarkation and Home cities to it, and just create the account on the Friday night of sailing, or Saturday morning if necessary, and make sure I close out the account by Sunday lunchtime. We dock Monday Morning in Melbourne, Australia.

With the knowledge shared by Cruise Critic, a potential problem has neatly been averted. I will start purchasing Casino Credits next month, I've already done some Gift Services which are showing in my Cruise Personalizer-a very easy way to monitor things. :D Yes, I've already been advised to take a hard copy printout of everything with me, a special clipboard folder is already allocated to the task.

I embark in less than 278 days my time. I hope, by April, to have the details of November 2017 cruises, and that there is 1 suitable 2 night cruise between Sydney-Melbourne, or Melbourne-Sydney I can take. I don't care which port I sail from-had to change plans once, was sailing from Melbourne to Sydney but the cruise was cancelled for "Operational Reasons" so it's Sydney-Melbourne for me.

I will be purchasing Casino Credits, and paying for each transaction, at the Travel Agent on the day of purchase! I am doing this, so that as many purchases as possible, are pre-paid, or funds brought in the form of ADDITIONAL to my planned gambling so I do not need to worry about clearing Security at the airport and leaving my purse unattended while I am taken to a different area for a "wand search" due to multiple handicaps making it impossible for me to use the regular screening device. Please explain why it is unreasonable of me, to want to make sure I have as near to the correct taxi fare as possible, ready for the taxi driver-they always appreciate an organised passenger who can provide the fare in small change, even coins are welcomed with delight by those taxi drivers I've travelled with! And several have expressed their appreciation of someone who understands they only have a limited amount of "change" carried with them. Even when the fare was AUD$30 and I asked if they objected to me paying entirely in AUD$1 coins, I had no trouble, and was delightedly asked, "Do you have any $5 or $10 notes, or even $2 coins to make up the fare?" I did, and had extra which the taxi driver happily changed for me, solving his change problem very nicely-so a win-win all round!

  • 8 months later...

Resurrecting this thread as it covers pretty much most of my questions but not all.

Am in the UK and cruising in February. The option to purchase Casino Credits does not appear in my personalizer; it does, however, appear in the Gifts section for anyone to purchase for a guest on board which is the route I will probably take. I am offered two amounts : £17.50 and £70.00. Will these be converted at the current exchange rate....... in which case I probably won't bother...... I can't see any T&C....

Thanks.
