Cruise Lou Posted June 14, 2017 #1 Share Posted June 14, 2017 We are doing the seven night Hawaiian cruise on NCL's Pride Of America next June. Maybe I dreamt it, but I seem to remember reading somewhere that although they don't really have formal nights on that cruise, they do have a couple of nights where passengers do get a little dressed up, like a semi formal night. Does anyone know if this is the case?
CruiserBruce Posted June 14, 2017 #2 Share Posted June 14, 2017 If you look over on the NCL board, here: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/forumdisplay.php?f=107 you will see that NCL doesn't have formal nights anymore, and you will find answers to your related questions. Rare sparks1093 Posted June 14, 2017 #3 Share Posted June 14, 2017 Yes, they do have two nights that they designate with a special name (it used to be "Norwegian Night Out", not sure if that's changed or not) where passengers can dress up and get their picture taken with the Captain and what not. But NCL is all about Freestyle which means dressing as you wish for the most part.

navybankerteacher Posted June 14, 2017 #5 Share Posted June 14, 2017 "NCL" and "formal" are mutually exclusive concepts.
slidergirl Posted June 14, 2017 #6 Share Posted June 14, 2017 There was a night called "Dress up or Not Night". Those who wanted to do the old historical "formal" night were welcome to dress in tux/gown/suit/cocktail attire. But, if someone wanted to dress normally in pants/shirt/sundress, it was welcome. I did not see a single person dressed "formally"; maybe a handful of men in jackets, but for the very large part, it was Country Club Casual. Aquahound Posted June 14, 2017 #7 Share Posted June 14, 2017 "NCL" and "formal" are mutually exclusive concepts. Ain't that the truth. It's like hearing a flight attendant ask if there's a doctor on board....on Spirit Airlines. Some questions are best answered with just a laugh. :D
dessertbeforedinner Posted December 14, 2017 #8 Share Posted December 14, 2017 Thankyou! Thanks for asking this question and thanks for the response. I'm taking the Hawaii cruise next March and was just sitting here wondering how this worked on NCL. I remember dressing up for Captain's Night on RCCL years ago. trish1c Posted December 14, 2017 #9 Share Posted December 14, 2017 The POA was the most casual of all the NCL cruises I have ever been on. Don't waste the luggage space on formal wear.

We took our Captain's photo wearing a mumu and "loud" Hawaiian shirt.
