cherylcorwin Posted September 27, 2009 #1 Share Posted September 27, 2009 I walked consistently on the Splendor & still gained 4 lbs. on the Splendor. How much have you gained & how long to lose it?
Iluvmypuggle Posted September 27, 2009 #2 Share Posted September 27, 2009 I would never weigh myself directly before or after a cruise. That would so kill my vacation buzz. And I don't want to think about carlories when I am enjoying the foods I don't always eat at home. But good question.:D
jpg1747 Posted September 27, 2009 #3 Share Posted September 27, 2009 SinceI know I'm bound to gain weight on a cruise, I do a pre-cruise liquid protein fast and take off 5-10 lbs that way. They I don't worry about what I'm eating.
jenms2000 Posted September 27, 2009 #4 Share Posted September 27, 2009 usually only a couple of pounds because i can't stay still. there's always some where to go. i try to take the stairs on the ship unless i have heels on(that's a deal breaker) to get as much exercise as i can. it always come right off since i don't eat every twenty minutes at home!!!:p
Fancy_Goods Posted September 27, 2009 #5 Share Posted September 27, 2009 I've always LOST weight (up to 5 lbs.) on each cruise. I eat and drink whatever I want but I make myself walk the stairs to do it. It works for me!
lbfluffy Posted September 27, 2009 #6 Share Posted September 27, 2009 10 pounds was the most. Kind of bummed me out since I did exercise, but I only had myself to blame. I should have stopped at one dessert at dinner, but so hard to resist.
G'ma Posted September 27, 2009 #7 Share Posted September 27, 2009 I've never really gained weight on a cruise. My diet doesn't change much. Other than more variety in selections, the old eating habits don't vary much. A nice breakfast around 10-ish or so and dinner at the late seating, maybe some ice cream in the afternoon....that's about it. And, I don't drink much at all...rarely more than 2 a day. I get a bloated feeling once in a while....probably from the different diet and more food than I'd eat at home. Like you, I'm a walker and do it every day on a cruise...early morning. Can't take the stairs going up (old knees) but can come down OK, so will do that....and walking around ashore helps. One of my traveling companions can put on 10 pounds by just looking at food. He has a very hearty appetite and eats like a starving man. At home, it's OK and he doesn't have a problem...but on a cruise or on vacation, he can pack it on. cathyz Posted September 27, 2009 #8 Share Posted September 27, 2009 We gain no weight on a cruise even tho we eat and drink anything we want. We do the stairs all the time, no elevators, and just end up walking in ports, around the ship all the time so burn it off.
Nunu Posted September 27, 2009 #9 Share Posted September 27, 2009 I walked consistently on the Splendor & still gained 4 lbs. on the Splendor. I walked consistently too. To the buffet.
Nunu Posted September 27, 2009 #10 Share Posted September 27, 2009 I've never really gained weight on a cruise. My diet doesn't change much. C'mon G'ma I saw that dessert pic you posted.
cherylcorwin Posted September 27, 2009 Author #11 Share Posted September 27, 2009 I use a Walker so can't do stairs, & my stamina isn't good, but I do what I can. This time, I've vowed to eat more fruit & stay away from the cheese & frozen yogurt!
mek Posted September 27, 2009 #12 Share Posted September 27, 2009 I gained 5 pounds from 11 days in Alaska two weeks ago. I went on a diet last Monday and lost 4 pounds by Friday. Will go back on the diet tomorrow to loose a few more pounds.
luvscruising2007 Posted September 27, 2009 #13 Share Posted September 27, 2009 I didn't gain any on our recent TA. We use the stairs for 2 or 3 flights and our cabin was almost aft so we always had a long walk several times a day. I think the most I have gained on a cruise is 4 or 5 pounds. And it doesn't take but a couple of days to lose it.

Dr. Jack Daniels Posted September 27, 2009 #15 Share Posted September 27, 2009 I usually hit the gym 5 times on a 7 night cruise. I run 5 miles on the treadmill and lift weights for 30 minutes. Despite all that I still gain 5 lbs. Guess that gives you a clue as to what my eating habits are like on a cruise.
breepbreep Posted September 27, 2009 #16 Share Posted September 27, 2009 I gained 8 pounds on a 6 night cruise. I ran for 30 minutes on the treadmill twice that week and always took the stairs, but i ate tons and tons of food and always had ice cream at lunch or dinner. After the cruise I ate what I normally would eat when not on a cruise and lost 4 pounds the first week I was back.
philsfun Posted September 27, 2009 #17 Share Posted September 27, 2009 I cruised in August and actually lost 2 pounds...and I think I ate like a pig!
path145 Posted September 28, 2009 #18 Share Posted September 28, 2009 My boyfriend and I eat and drink whatever and as much as we want! (and that's a lot of eating and drinking!) I gained 8 lbs on a 7 night cruise in February. Dropped 6 lbs within 2 weeks and still fighting with the last 2 lbs to leave me alone! I have almost 5 mos to diet to get in shape for the next one. Gotta get serious here!
cruisetobeaches Posted September 28, 2009 #19 Share Posted September 28, 2009 The most was 12 lbs on a B2B. Lost it in about a week after getting home and back in the normal routine. But, I am one of those lucky to not be overweight and can lose weight quickly when I want to. (6'3" and 180 lbs)
Diggie Posted September 28, 2009 #20 Share Posted September 28, 2009 This was from my cruise in April on the Valor and I ate everything in site. I even ran a couple of mornings or walked on the treadmill. I then lose the weight in about 2 weeks but this time around it took a little longer since I kept eating the wrong foods once I got home. Then I went on another cruise at the end of July and the same cycle started again. Now I'm determined to get the weight off and hopefully I won't fall into the same routine once I get on the ship next May?
gjohnson75 Posted September 28, 2009 #21 Share Posted September 28, 2009 We have done well. No weight gains on the cruise ship. I try to take the stairs as much as possible and all the walking helps.
Kitt Grey Posted September 28, 2009 #22 Share Posted September 28, 2009 Three cruises, lost weight on each and won money more money than I spent at the casino. If I could only afford to quit working I could be thin and rich. ;)
cruisekwazee Posted September 28, 2009 #23 Share Posted September 28, 2009 I have never gained weight on a cruise. Too much walking and sweating. The food does not have near the amount of calories as fast food and the kind of foods I eat at home. I need to stay on a cruise, ROFL!!!
Philly Steve Posted September 28, 2009 #24 Share Posted September 28, 2009 My cruise weight gain has ranged from zero a decade ago to eight pounds on our cruise last year. For me, it seems it's all too easy to put the weight on, the older I get. I lost 20 pounds over four months through diet and exercise after our last cruise. With a lot of self discipline, this time, I hope to return to zero weight gain. Goodbye room service. ;)
nycruise1 Posted September 28, 2009 #25 Share Posted September 28, 2009 This is actually almost a contest for me. There usually is a scale in the exercise room and I weigh in on the first morning at sea and the morning of the last day. The number one activity for me on the cruise is eating, which I do all day. My standard on the last cruise at dinner was 2 shrimp cocktails and the chocolate dessert usually with ice cream, on top of whatever else I order (couple of entrees, appetizers, soup, maybe another dessert). I am actually alittle bit taller and thinner than cruisetobeaches, so I can get away with this. It does get to a point where I sit down for a meal and I am not hungry, which slows down my consumption. Also as I get older, I cannot eat as much. Our last cruise on the Inspiration, which was only 5 days, I only gained 5 pounds. Even with the 16 pound gain, only about 5 pounds were left after being home about a week. Once I go back to normal mode, the pounds do come off quickly. Just thinking about this makes me miss the cruises!
