beerman2 Posted September 30, 2009 #5 Share Posted September 30, 2009 So unfortunate for the PAX if it happened. Both ships going nowhere until cleared. Who has jurisdiction in this case?

Sargent_Schultz Posted September 30, 2009 #7 Share Posted September 30, 2009 If true, I imagine John will be blogging about it. RCCL should have known better than to ram a Carnival ship.
formercruisestaff Posted September 30, 2009 Author #8 Share Posted September 30, 2009 I have a friend onboard the Legend but haven't got many details - apparently it just happened less than 20 minutes ago!

ehfl Posted September 30, 2009 #12 Share Posted September 30, 2009 Reports coming in to Twitter are saying that the Carnival Legend hit the RCL Enchantment of the Seas in high winds. Major damage reported to both ships. I hope there are no injuries.
sixgun8 Posted September 30, 2009 #13 Share Posted September 30, 2009 interesting considering they should have been heading towards different docks and a harbor pilot should have been manning both ships?
shipty2 Posted September 30, 2009 #14 Share Posted September 30, 2009 I am sure the prices for the legend will go down soon. I may have to quickly book an early saver now.

jetskier Posted September 30, 2009 #17 Share Posted September 30, 2009 If true, I imagine John will be blogging about it. RCCL should have known better than to ram a Carnival ship. It takes awhile for something to get posted on his blog as it has to go through the Stephanies and then someone in Corporate before it gets posted. Since John is onboard, maybe he convinced the Captain that he should be driving on the left side of the seaway. Hopefully it is just some scraped paint and not major structural damage as there are no close drydocks in that area. Mobile, AL would be one place. Dave

scar4711 Posted September 30, 2009 #21 Share Posted September 30, 2009 I got friends currently on the Enchantment.. the Legend collided with it.. the harbor attempted to get a tugboat between the 2 ships but it was too late. From his blog: From the Enchantment of the seas. OK, so we're sitting in port. A few of us are on the pool deck watching the Carnival Legend pull out of port. As we're watching it, it's getting closer and closer. It looked like the wind was pushing the other ship toword us. I looked down and saw a tug boat try to get between the two boats, but it was too late. Then the collision became inevitable. There was some crunching and breaking glass noises and the ship rocked to one side a little. It was such a slow crash that it was barely noticeable. We could see scraped paint on the other ship, Really, nobody was hurt and we're waiting for the all-clear from the Harbor master to leave port. supercrunch Posted September 30, 2009 #22 Share Posted September 30, 2009 I'll be keeping an eye out for the all-clear. We're scheduled for our first cruise ever on the Legend in a month, and it would be nearly impossible to reschedule for different dates. Hopefully it's just a fender bender!
