Characters in a story

Hi guys,

Maybe some people might take offense to this, but it is in no way meant to be offensive. It's just all in good fun.

Hubby and I are big people watchers... especially in the dining room. During our two cruises, we have seen some interesting people. Now, I know nothing about these people, other than just being a silent observer on the outside. However, usually, after a night or two, you start to sense a general trend about what these people are like. And hubby and I... well, we tend to give these people names. It's like a private joke between the two of us. Maybe it's bad of us, but we mean no harm... it's just a way of identifying them. Anyways, here have been some of the characters we have observed:

"The trophy wife"

"The hot twins"

"The girl who never smiles"

"See through shirt lady"

"Ida and her side kick"

I would go into detail, but in case any of these people are actually on CC, I will refrain. Either way, I am sure other people on here have observed individuals, and since you don't really know them... you have to refer to them by something. Have you ever come up with names for other people like we do?

Please only give nicknames that would in no way identify anyone.

I have to admit, my travel companions and I are guilty of this too. Never to anyone's face, of course. Just privately between us. lol. :D

Unfortunately...."the drunk mom". It was so sad to see a drunk woman hanging on her 10 or so year old son to stand up (on more than one occasion).:(

We had a name for the dad as well but I think my post would be omitted if I typed it!

My daughters and I do this too... we are not mean people by any stretch but... there is always a "Lola" on board, the over the hill former hottie who just refuses to mature with dignity.. usually wears sparkely things... a "Sue" the office gal who is probably quiet and reserved at work and lets loose on the cruise...A "Guido" slicked back hair body builder type...and there's always a few new ones...ALWAYS at least one just known as "drunk chick" and there's always a "creepy guy" ... it's fun and harmless but we always refer to them by their "names" whenever we see them...

Now I have to figure out what to pack - as my pix shows, I am long past perky. I am traveling w/ a group of folks who don't know me from a sack of hammers. I had planned to wear a red sequin baseball hat - shouldn't be too many, should make it easier for cruising friends to spot me. Now, I will worry about being incorrectly IDd as that aged hottie who never grew up!

What to do, what to do????

At least I will never be the "old gray hair who never smiles".

Have fun -

Too funny! My husband does this all the time, I'll see if he remembers any from our last cruise. One of his that cracked me up was a nickname for a lady he sees at the train station. he calls her "Toilet Paper Bear". I knew exactly what she looks like from the name, large wide framed woman in a floor length furry coat, LOL! Cute thread!

haha, we do this too!we've seenhookers on vaca (two girls who their escorts dipped at the front of the stage when couples were dancing who showed everyone they saved room on packing by leaving out their undies)sparkly bra girl (she also didn't pack panties but did pack fanny exposing dresses and you guessed it - sparkly bras)boobie girl - she parked her 40DDD implants on the dinner table every night)patriotic speedo man - about 70 with a red/white/blue speedo (oh my oh my)cantalope woman - (haha remember the boobie deck, it was her favorite place)and no offense to anyone but we also like to pick out the prom and bridesmaids dresses on formal nights

My best friend and I do the same thing! We like to people watch on the lido and promenade decks and in the disco. It seems like we run into them frequently so we need a name to reference them.

A few we've ran across

Creepy Ipod Guy

Dancing Grandma

GGW (Girl gone wild)

The Entourage

The Groupies

Hot Momma

The Fartin guy

I feel the need to explain the last 1. He was staying on the same deck we were and it always seemed that every time we would be walking down the hall to our room he would be in front of us and let a few go!:p

We're guilty of it too...On our last cruise on the Fantasy, there was a gal one morning sitting at the table next to us that had 22 pieces of bacon (erm...yes we counted) piled on top of a huge mound of scrambled eggs. DH nicknamed her "the baconator".

"man with the yellow sneakers" (self explanatory, they were atleast size 12's and he wore them EVERYWHERE)

"sunglass tan man" (someone passed out in the sun on the first day and got FRIED around his shades, LOL, which ofcourse lasted the whole week)

"disco grandpa" (must have been ATLEAST 80, kicking up his heels in the disco every night AND at Carlos & Charlie's)

"arm candy" (self explanatory)

It's all in the fun. We're big people watches too. We do that sometimes too, but my DH and I usually try to figure out who other people look like... like a mix between Cameron Diaz and Jennifer Garner...or something.

This is what my husband and I do... it's amazing how many people look like someone else.

Some we have encountered:

Sir Never Happy (saw him everywhere on an NCL cruise a few years ago, and appeared to be unhappy with everything, how can anyone go through life that miserable?)

Drunk n' Stupid (nothing more unattractive than someone bleary-eyed and stumbling around due to over-indulgence)

The Leather Lady (you've all seen her, skin like Naugahyde due to way too much tanning)

Mr/Ms Know-It-All (the guy or woman who is an expert on every facet of cruising who lies in wait to impress others with their vast knowledge. Two cruises back she was a travel agent that would sit on the lido deck and wait for some unsuspecting "victim" to sit near her and she would launch into a looooong diatribe about her career in travel since 1905 and why the cruise we were on was so terrible. If I ever considered shoving someone overboard, it was her.)

My DH and I do something similar. We usually watch a particular couple and make up stories about them. We try to figure out what they do and basically what their story is. We began doing this years ago when we went to estate sales and would guess or make up stories about the people who lived there. One in particular had a huge painting of the lady of the house when she was young. We decided the kids put her in an old folks home and were selling the house for the money. It's fun and keeps your imagination going.

We are people watchers too.

It usually starts with people that resemble someone else, either someone we know, or famous.

In the endless sea of faces, there are so many to choose from.

And then we build from there. Some we actually reach out to and meet, unless they look like Charles Manson.
