Room service tipping question

Sorry, I'm sure this has been asked before but I checked back a few pages and didn't see anything....so, my question is, when ordering room service do you have the option of giving a cash tip and if so, do the servers prefer that?

 

Also, I'm going with a friend who is alittle, shall we say "frugal". If we get room service and sign the tip to the cabin, as you would do in a hotel I suppose, how is it determined whose cc the tip gets put on? I'm by no means cheap, but I also don't want to feel as if I'm being taken advantage of by my friend if the room service tip charge is automatically always put onto my cc.

Actually thats why I'm thinking a cash tip (for room service) would be the best option.

Cash tip ONLY, except midnight to dawn, where a service charge, which includes tip is charged to the card that is presented upon getting the room service.

 

Suggest that when you check into ship that you get two seperate seapass accounts (ie. use seperate C Cards to set up accounts). This will reduce strain on your friendship.

yes we are leaving next week and have already pre registered on the RCCL site...2 separate cc's.

I just thought that maybe it was charged to the room/cabin and wondering how this would work.

Seems I won't have a problem the way you describe it.

We like room service for breakfast so we always take a roll of one dollar bills for room service tips. We usually give a $2.00.

 

Since room service food is free there is nothing to sign so the tip must be in cash.

 

There is a nominal charge for overnight delivery that would go on your Sea Pass Card. I would still offer a $2.00 cash tip, but the choice in that case is yours.

I always give $5.00 cash for my breakfast on our balcony. I have no idea if that is too much or too little, but that's what I always give him.:confused:

We tip depending on how much they have to carry---$1-2 for coffee....$5 or so for a full meal.....there's no charge for the actual food, so you can't do a "percentage"....tip in cash at time of delivery as it will be kitchen staff bringing your food.

There are many times when we want something small, say a pot of coffee, but don’t have any small bills. We end up NOT ordering room service because we have no tip money.

We always tip $1-2 for coffee and juice, then more for larger loads that they must carry. We start collecting one dollar bills when change is given in stores a week or two before the trip so we have the wad of ones to distribute when required. Have got caught in the past with only larger bills and feel awful not tipping for that reason. Room service folks work hard and more than deserve a tip. :)

We haven't ordered room service on the last few cruises because we didn't have small bills. You'd think we would have learned by now, but because it's a cashless system onboard we just don't think about bringing a lot of cash on the cruises.

This is where the confusion is. There's only a charge between midnight and 5am, and the charge doesn't go to the "room." It goes to whomever hands the guy their seapass. So if you find yourselves eating at 2am more than once, just take turns. :) Other than that, tips are ONLY in cash because they won't be handing you anything to sign, as it's free the rest of the day.

I order morning coffee and tip $1. I have the bill ready the night before because in the morning they wake me up and I'm not a fast mover.

The casino cashier will be more than happy to break larger bills for you, just stop by at night and you will have plenty of $1 bills for breakfast.
