All Things Splendor

Sorry if this has already been talked about - I used the search function but haven't had a lot of luck with it.

Is there a hidden coin on the Carnival Splendor? We're getting on the ship on 11/6 and my daughter (and I) would like to find the coin if there is one.

Thanks!

Hi friends, me, my wife and her sister are planning a 7 day cruise to the MR from LB in April and have lots of questions so please be patient.

We're looking for opinions on the best company to book the cruise through, the best deck, it's location on the ship front or back, balcony rooms, entertainment and shows, ballroom dancing, things to avoid, and lastly for me, a shore excursion to go golfing.

If you can help with any of these topics, we would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks, Tim

Hi Tim....I was on the Splendor Halloween cruise and I had a great time! How many people will be in your room? I love a balcony room but on my Splendor cruise I had an Oceanview stateroom....which I loved. If you are looking at Oceanview staterooms let me know. This room will only hold 2 people. If I was going to book a Balcony stateroom, I would book an Aft-View extended balcony or a Balcony on the LIDO Deck.

I like to book my cruise with Carnival. I have found that it's easier for me to reach someone if I have a question or want to make any changes.

In my opinion the best rooms are midship, balcony or better, deck 6. This seems to be the quietest and stablist area.

In my opinion book direct through Carnival, you will avoid hassles in case there is a price drop.

somewhere on here is a review with photos I did back when we went.

We just upgraded our room to a spa room for our Dec cruise on Splendor. Unfortunately, Upsell Fairy did not call :D...we just wanted to change our current reservation. Having only cruised Splendor one time and the only time for Carnival, I was wondering if anyone had a spa room before and can you provide some insights? Are the apa rooms in a pretty quiet area and have less traffic? Do the rooms have private access to the spa...meaning can I wear my rob and sliippers to the spa without being noticed by hundreds of people. I saw a picture of Thalassotherapy pool online but it seems like it is surrounded by fitness equipment. Although is has glass separating the pool and fitness area, is the pool area quiet? This is the first cruise we take that we do not have kids or relatives with us, and DH and I excited that we get to be by ourselves, relax and enjoy each other's company. Any feedback on the spa amenities and surrounding is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

we had a spa cabin once, and liked it so much that we booked the family in spa cabins for spring break. they're located right beside the spa and there aren't a bunch of people walking around. we walked to the spa in our robes all the time. heck, we even walked to the spa in our robes when we had cabins in the back of the ship. you get slippers and special robes in your room. the rooms also have the same bath products as in the spa. i think you'll like your cabin. the spa is also nice. i really like the t-pool. it's in a room by itself. i also like the steam rooms, esp the one with the curved loungers.

We've been on the Splendor twice...once on the 6th deck (6447) and once on the 10th deck (1073)... we enjoyed both locations but if we had to choose the 10th deck cabin would be our choice - great views and 1 deck down to the Lido

As far as golf - the golf excursion in Cabo is to a Nicklaus designed course - can't beat that = but it's not cheap

I agree to book direct with Carnival, I have booked a couple of cruises with a couple of online travel sites and it is easier to book direct with Carnival. They have all the answers.

My favorite cabin on the Splendor was our aft wrap, I think these are hard to book but on the Upper deck, this cabin does fit three people if you are wanting to share. The couch makes in to a bed. The balcony is awesome!

We had an oceanview on the Main deck last June, the cabin was fine.

We prefer the back of the ship for a cabin because it's more convenient to the buffet.

If you like Las Vegas costumes go to all of the production shows, the costumes are fun.

Hi All, I have seen several people talking on here about finding the menus listed on a website. What is the website? I would love to check out what our options will be! Of course if I must survive on Warm Chocolate Melting Cake all week, I will! :D

Just off the Splendor today. Best cruise EVER!!!! It was my third time on Splendor and deck 7 is the deck to book. I stayed on 6 before and heard the casino all night plus you will be above all the clubs and lounges- avoid 6! 2nd time we were on deck 8 and being under the Lido was awful- those deck parties and all the traffic on the Lido make for a noisy deck. This time we stayed on 7 and it was the BEST! Cabins above and below and it was super quiet- heard nothing the whole cruise.

Super fun cruise- saw lots of whales and Las Caletas was the funnest day ever!!! Can't wait to book it again- can't get enough of Splendor!!

First time on the Splendor, and we'll be on deck 6! But hopefully it won't be too noisy - we're above the sushi bar!;)

Looking forward to seeing whales and having a great time!

I was thinking of booking Las Caletas for my cruise in April, totally worth it? I'm 21 and my partner is 23 do you think it would be enjoyable for younger folk?

We also just got off the ship today. We were above the casino and we could hear the salsa music playing. It wasnt to bad unless you go to bed early before 12am.

Next cruise We will make sure to get a deck between cabins.

Will you be posting pictures of Caletas???

Las Caletas was TOTALLY worth it. We took our kids which are 22,21,19 and 16 and they LOVED it. Said it was the best part of the cruise. Open bar on the boat and at las caletas helped ;). The boat ride was super fun- they really entertained you. The snorkeling was fantastic!! Great visibility and I saw more fish and sea creatures than I did in Bermuda!! I held a baby starfish, saw a HUGE puffer fish, eels, sting rays and tons of beautiful fish. My kids loved the kayaking and rafts and just lazing on the beach. The food was great too!!

I will post pictures of Las Caletas- soon hopefully :)

I would like to see the Las Caletas pics also.

We did the Rythms of the Night there, this was fun also. At night it feels like a magical place. Although not as much activity, fun boat ride to and from, buffet dinner and a show.

Hello! We are sailing on the Splendor in April. I went through all the posts here last weekend until my eyes were about to fall out...but I still have some questions. My husband, 6 year old son, and I have only sailed one other time, last year & same itinerary on the Disney Wonder. There were many things we loved about the Wonder, but we thought we'd try something less expensive and with a casino.;)

Here are some of my questions, but I'm sure more will pop into my head at 3:00 in the morning:

1. Dinner: We have a 6:00 seating. Last cruise we loved the set dining because of our wait staff, but we also loved having a table for 3. I know nothing is guaranteed, and I sent an email via the blog on Carnival requesting a private table, but I don't know if it will be honored OR if we should just try your time dining. Any thoughts/suggestions? I know lots of cruisers love to sit with others, but since I work a million hours a week we just don't get a lot of family time together.

2. Are any of the shows appropriate for younger kids? Of course on the Wonder all the big shows were family friendly, just not sure on the Splendor.

3. Are there many activities on board even on port days?

4. How formal is formal? We do love dressing up (my son loves his tux!) and I'm happy to lug all the stuff along, but if most people don't dress maybe we'll be more casual.

5. Is there a recommended time to get to Long Beach to embark? We don't mind getting there early and waiting.

6. Water - all the blogs before we sailed last time said to bring water as it wasn't readily available, but I ended up bringing some reusable water bottles and filling them up at the drink station they had on the pool deck. Don't know if the Splendor has one of those. We're not soda drinkers and prefer water (or wine!)

7. Finally, I saw the link for the menus a few pages ago, but could someone post a link for the recent (sorry, I forgot what they are called) - they were called the Navigator on disney. The papers that tell you what's happening each day.

Thanks for the help and indulging my many questions...we are SOOOOO excited!

Any thoughts/suggestions? I know lots of cruisers love to sit with others, but since I work a million hours a week we just don't get a lot of family time together. I was on the Splendor Halloween cruise. My friend and I had Your Time Dining. If you want a private table, at the back of the dining room there is a booth that is private. This was my favorite table and we asked for it on several nights.

2. Are any of the shows appropriate for younger kids? Of course on the Wonder all the big shows were family friendly, just not sure on the Splendor.

3. Are there many activities on board even on port days? I always found something to keep me busy. The Splendor has the big screen on the Lido deck. I watched a movie on one of our port days.

4. How formal is formal? We do love dressing up (my son loves his tux!) and I'm happy to lug all the stuff along, but if most people don't dress maybe we'll be more casual.

5. Is there a recommended time to get to Long Beach to embark? We don't mind getting there early and waiting. We showed up early and waited. The lines were very long after we checked in. I would check-in as early as possible.

6. Water - all the blogs before we sailed last time said to bring water as it wasn't readily available, but I ended up bringing some reusable water bottles and filling them up at the drink station they had on the pool deck. Any thoughts/suggestions? I know lots of cruisers love to sit with others, but since I work a million hours a week we just don't get a lot of family time together. If you want to stick with the assigned dining, you can always check your FunTImes when you first board the ship and see what time the maitre'D is in the dining room. You can go see where your table is; and if it is a big one, you can request a change. I have had luck with this in the past, but there are no guarantees. If you switch to YTD, you will almost always get a table to yourselves. You can request the same wait staff every night, but they may not have availability when you show up.

2. Are any of the shows appropriate for younger kids? Of course on the Wonder all the big shows were family friendly, just not sure on the Splendor. I guess I'm a little prudish, but I think the costumes are a little risque for the production shows. I have seen kids there though. There are some family shows for the comedians in the Comedy Club every night. There are dance classes too. I know they will find plenty of activites to do.

3. Are there many activities on board even on port days? There aren't as many as on a sea day, but there are some. It's always nice to spend some time by the pool when everyone is off the ship, especially that first day in Cabo. By the second day, more people decide to stay aboard.

4. How formal is formal? We do love dressing up (my son loves his tux!) and I'm happy to lug all the stuff along, but if most people don't dress maybe we'll be more casual. I have seen everything from tuxedos/gowns to very casual clothing on formal nights.

6. Water - all the blogs before we sailed last time said to bring water as it wasn't readily available, but I ended up bringing some reusable water bottles and filling them up at the drink station they had on the pool deck. Don't know if the Splendor has one of those. We're not soda drinkers and prefer water (or wine!) I am a big water drinker myself. In hot weather, I take along a water bottle for port days and fill it using their glasses and dumping them into the container (so as to not contaminate the tap); but on the ship, I just grab a plastic glass, add ice and water. There are several dispensers in the buffet drink area indoors and also on the pool deck side. You will also have ice in your cabin, so you can have water there as well.

I hope you find this information useful. It's not Disney, but you will love the Splendor.

While I agree that people wear anything from tuxedos and such to more casual I always feel underdressed if I dont wear a real formal dress on formal nights. I noticed that women especially tend to be looking at what everyone is wearing and it just makes me uncomfortable if I am not dressed to the hilt. I know, I shouldnt care what others think...:D

I dont have anytimed dining but I also hope I get mid ship dining. I've heard midship you feel less movements. Last cruise we were feeling the waves a few times one night and we didnt like it. Thank Goodness for Bonine-lol!

Cruising may not be for you then... I love the feel of the ocean... I would suggest, if you want to keep on cruising, settle on short 7-day cruises, but then, at some point or other, you will encounter rough seas. You should be prepared for that. Also, book mid-ship cabins (no guarantees) and on lower decks.

I am with you on loving the feel of the ocean. In fact I wish the ship would rock back and forth more once I go to bed..:D
