.....Is it so hard to believe? They don't allow booze for the reasons of drunkards..BUT let's be frank...it's mostly to keep you from saving money. .....

Don't for one second believe the reason they don't allow you to bring booze is because of the drunkards. Plenty of people on cruises get stinking drunk on nothing but bought drinks. They want you spending money on their alcohol and only their alcohol.

Follow the money.

Also, Mach and the others who keep posting the updated rules--haven't y'all been on message boards long enough to know that many people only read the original post and then respond, they don't bother to read the whole thread. THOSE PEOPLE WILL NEVER SEE YOUR REPEATED POSTS!!!! Save yourself the aggravation.

Hi Mach and the others posting on this thread.

Mach helped us sort this issue out two days before our B2B on May 1. The issue was my DH uses a portable oxygen concentrator, and we carry an extension cord and a surge bar so that we can get the equipment to the bed, and charge the batteries for the machine when it is off "straight" electricity. We put the surge bar in our carryon luggage, and it went through the boarding screeners, no problem, along with batteries, medicines, and the like. We also carried his doctor's statement as to the need of this equipment, but no one even asked to see it as well as a spare tank of oxygen, that no one ever asked to have turned into Guest Services (which from past cruises has been required as soon as we set foot on the ship). I even offered to turn it in, and no one knew what I was talking about).

One piece of our checked luggage had the extension cord in it--it went through, no problems. The other bag had one unopened liter bottle of water, and they held that bag. I had "locked" it with zip ties, which meant they had to open it in front of me. The whole process is a mess in that they don't have adequate facilities to do these inspections. I was in 2 different lines for about 45 minutes, before they got to my bag. (It was all done in a very narrow hallway on Deck 3-not suitable at all-I am also handicapped and use a cane.) They went through my large bag and all they could find was the unopened water. They acted quite disheartened when they had to close it up, and escort me to my room with my bag. I really feel they need to develop better procedures and facilities for doing this type of screening--maybe the Lido Deck, so that everyone can get on with their cruise while they are having fun with our luggage! For some folks, they even shook out each piece of clothing. The ironic thing was, they say not to lock your luggage at embarkation, but do tell you to lock it at debarkation! What's the difference? The same folks are handling it both times.

One additional comment as to necessity for some of this--we were on the Ecstacy for 9 days, and the first 6 days we had no electrical problems, on the 7th and 8th days, part of the power to our cabin failed the same time both days. Our cabin steward told us that the same thing happened in another cabin in our area. We didn't even have anything plugged in at the time. And this was one of the new extended suite cabins that were just redone last October.

This is not meant to start any more inflammatory posts, but this is what happened to us on May 1.

LMAO.....just seeing this....I have one question...No Canoes or boats can be taken aboard?.....has THIS been a problem?:p

Hey Randy,

You and Mach have to be brothers! I haven't ever seen one, but I'll have to try to take my canoe with me next time too! Somewhere along the line, someone must have tried it! All we ask for is oxygen for my husband! You are both right, what happened to common sense?

I would expect no more from Carnival. In my one and only cruise on Carnival, my family was greated with smiles as we boarded and like sheep the rest of the cruise. Many of the crew were merely aloof; some were downright rude. A few even hostile.

It's just Carnival. We now sail Royal Caribbean.

• Ammunition (i.e., bullets, shot or missile that can be fired using a propellant)

• Imitation or replica weapons (i.e., de-commissioned weapons or those not capable of being fired, toy weapons, or any other item made, intended or adapted to be used as a weapon)

• Explosives or explosive component parts, (i.e., detonators)

• Fireworks or pyrotechnics (except those previously approved in connection with a company stage production which have been properly manifested)

• Surfboards

• Scooters (only permitted if used for mobility – must be stored in guest’s stateroom)

• Boats/canoes

If you are then good riddance, there will just be more room on the ship. If you aren't then I really don't understand how you don't get these rules. They are the same on all ships. Even if Carnival said absolutely you can bring "x" on board but no you cannot bring "y" on board, you would still find some ambiguity in the statement.

You are reading more into this than there need be. When you read a post, you need to read the WHOLE post, not the first post and then start smoking from your ears and write the first thing that comes into your mind.

If you are too ignorant to read the whole thing, then by all means show yourself to the door.

I will just sail away with RCCL from now on. These new rules are ridiculous and not clear cut. I am not going to cruise with a line that may or may not take away my hair dryer, curling iron or camera. Not going to risk it.

Hope you enjoy RCL. Your absence and all the others that are defecting will make more room for all of us that want to cruise with Carnival. Happy sailing:)

Wow! Absolutely no one on the whole cruise ship was nice to you? Hmmm! And yet you come to the Carnival boards to participate. Wonder how rude and unfriendly you were to the crew and employees. On all my cruises--Carnival and non-Carnival--I've not had a problem with crew or employees but then I treat them with respect and friendliness and a smile. Happy sailing with Royal Caribbean more room for me at the pizza line:)

If Straighteners and curling irons are allowed then so are fans. According to you. Thanks

They took my travel iron which I always leave packed in our suitcase. I had no problem with them taking it however, whoever was rummaging through my husbands suitcase soiled a brand new never been worn polo shirt! I know it was them because it was clean when packed. It looked like a big mustard thumb print on his collar. To say the least, I was not happy !! Shouldn't they be wearing rubber gloves if they're going to ransack your bag??

Whew!!!!! Sounds like you need a cruise vacation there Fin. My Goodness.

In fact, I have considered those things you mentioned. I leave the emergency contact number for the ship with those who need it and if an emergency arises, they can certainly get in contact with me. If I feel a need to check in or an emergency happens on my end, then there is a phone in my cabin and internet service in the internet cafe. I can also purchase a $5 phone card in port (which is far less than the ship or roaming rates) to make calls or visit the local internet cafe, which is also cheaper. In today's world, we are never cut off.....even if we did want to be.

I have elderly parents who are not in the best of health, 4 children and 9 grandchildren, so the possibilities that you mention exist with me also. I have trained those at work to handle most any problem that arise and the world is not going to stop if something comes up that has to wait a week for my return. I am well aware and understand everybody has different circumstances and preferences that may or may not be the same. Now, having said all that.................

When I posted, I was just simply saying that I did not take any of those things with me while on a cruise because if I did, my underlying thought was that I would not have a vacation!!!!! It had absolutely nothing to do with your rights or reasons for taking them.

So, take a chill pill there my friend, no one is stepping on your toes :) I was just stating that I didn't take those things with me on a cruise.

Fair enough. Perhaps you conveyed a different impression with your OMG and fourteen !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't think Carnival employees know what their employer is doing either.....

We recently went on a 6-day cruise on Carnival and security tagged my luggage because I had a $3.97 bottle of Amber Mist wine. It was confiscated and returned the last night BUT this is what is ridiculous-: The couple going through security ahead of us placed a 24 pack Bud Light on the conveyor and nothing was done. They boarded the ship and passed other security checks with no problem. We saw them on board and asked if they actually had beer in the cans and they said "yes".

The ship doesn't carry cheap Amber Mist but my wine was taken away while Bud Light that the ship does sell was allowed to be brought on board!!!

I guess that means you can't bring a small hair dryer from home, but you can bring a large one from your local beauty salon!! LOL ;)

The main problem is all Carnival's fault for not properly building their ships. Anyone been to a hotel without a clock? They should have designed the ships with adequate outlets.

The problem is not improperly built ships. The electical generators on these ships can generate enough power to run a small town. Lack of voltage/amperage is not the issue.

Cruisers bringing electrical items that are in poor reparir, have frayed cords, taped connections, walking out of the state room with 5 things plugged into a power strips, etc is the problem.

I have no problem with your argument that more outlets or amenities are needed. That is a purely subjective thought and you can argue that all day if you wish. The amount of power furnished by the ship is fact.

The first step to solving a problem is identify the problem correctly. :)

I don't know when you took your cruise, whether it was before or after the most recent clarification of banned/subject to confiscation list was produced by Carnival, but I think the key to this new list is two fold.

Cruisers are going to have to be properly informed and understand the rules. Secondly, so are Carnival's security personnel. Based on your experience, it appears that remedial training is in order and while they are at it, they might as well retrain everyone across the fleet to the new rules. I'm sure they are attempting to do that, but emphasis should be applied accordingly.

The application of the rules are going to have to be applied consistenly throughout the fleet or Carnival is going to have a fiasco on their hands. While common sense seems to be anything but common these days, logic and common sense and a systematic consistent application of the standards is going to have to prevail.

I know......but it sounded good! ;)

You might have this worry as well. He hates Carnival and likes RC but he spends his time on the Carnival boards. Since Carnival seems to be his main interest, if you are docked next to a RC ship he is on, like the message board, he will sneak over to the Carnival ship and get on the Carnival buffet line....all while loudly proclaiming he will not set foot on a Carnival ship.

Mmmmm....you have a point there maty!!!!!! I will be on the lookout for those RCL pirates who dare swing on their ropes across the bay to step foot in front of me and food! It will be off to the plank for those scavengers!! :)

:mad:We just returned from a Carnival Cruise in the Caribbean' date=' and I can tell you there is more risk from all the smoking than from all the devices that are brought on board. Why isn't Carnival concerned about that? They even let people smoke in their cabins![/quote']

This is the reason I booked with carnival and booked a balcony, So I could smoke in the comfort of my room and balcony. I have bought a portable ashtry that I will pack. And I have never smoked in bed at home, so I don't see an issue there.

Not all smokers are inconsiderate or careless

I just talked with Carnival rep. last night about what we can/can't take- she said I'm absolutly fine with bringing my hairdryer, as well as a flat iron and curling iron with me. I still don't know what to make of it, she said she hasn't heard anything that would say otherwise. Just the usual explosive devices, knives, etc. etc..... I really don't know who or what to beleive. I really don't want to take the chance of having somthing 'taken" and then given back after the fact that I've needed it the whole cruise. I know this is probably a repeat question, but any suggestions would be appreciated. I don't really like the thought of not being able to fix my hair the way I want. But.. I guess the positive thing to all of this is that we are traveling with carry-on's only, so maybe we'll get lucky?

Thanks guys!

You should be fine as long as the items are in good repair and you don't leave anything plugged in while away from your stateroom. I plan on printing Carnival's list and taking it with me so if any questions come up, both myself and security can see it in writing. I will take a small electric fan and use it at night.

I'm not losing any sleep over it and you shouldln't either.
