Karaoke on steroids!!!

*Mach*

Recommended Posts

I would love a cruise that had good karaoke singers. In our ten

cruises, not once did we stay more than an hour hoping to hear

someone who could sing. While we don't participate, we enjoy

listening.

Are any of you "pros" on you tube?

I am not on You Tube (that I know of). I have never recorded myself, but I have seen a lot of folks filming me while I sang.

I take it as a good sign that I have not shown up on any BAD karaoke You Tube videos!!! :D

Same goes for me. The fact that I've not shown up on You-Tube is probably a good thing! ;) I'll probably get around to posting one of my "performances" one of these days. Meanwhile, you'll just have to sail with me! :D

Come join us in Hawaii....I can't wait!

I am going to have to do some serious vocal exercises to get the ole voice to last 15 days!!!! (especially at my age)

Wish I could and I will if I win the lottery!!! Afraid I have to keep my kareoke singing wih less officiando as you all..but it would be a blast and thanks!!

I made the tough decision to focus on needed new horizons for next cruises..something about going where one hasn't been keeps one young...you guys are great...!!!

Yea, guess I ought to do that. As of now, we're doing "Legend" on Sept 26th, for our annual "family reunion cruise", then "Miracle" on November 11th. That's an 8 day, with both the Passenger Talent Show, and the Legends Show. Come on along!

No problem. We'll make it happen one of these days. We usually do at least a couple of cruises early in the year. Haven't booked anything for 2011 yet, so I'll keep an eye on what your plans are. It would be a lot of fun to sail together. We could have a GREAT time at karaoke, and the other shows offered.

Wish we could join you on Triumph. Last time I sailed her, they offered karaoke on sea day afternoons, at the small stage in the casino. That was REALLY a lot of fun, because it got a lot of folks involved who normally wouldn't have gone to karaoke. We had a BALL doing that!

We have not formally booked January 3rd on the Triumph. It is a 5 day and we are 99% sure we are going to be there.....

since our son will be on Christmas break from college....

Just read a press release that this should be on all ships that sail 7 days or more by the end of the year.

Currently, it is set to only be on the 12 ships that sail 7 days (or longer)....

This sounds neat! Now, we just have to figure out how to get karaoke to last long enough that those of us who prefer late seating actually have a shot at signing up without having to skip the MDR one night. Most disappointing thing on my honeymoon cruise was badgering DH until he agreed to karaoke with me "because we're on our honeymoon" and then never getting the chance because of the confliction in hours. Guess who won't ever agree to it again :(

Maybe this is just a stupid question...does this mean that those that have no desire to sing with a band are just out of luck now?

Thats exactly what I was thinking. I sang with a band once at karaoke in California on vacation. I didn't like it. I was singing Crazy by Patsy Cline and when I thought I was supposed to start the next verse, the guitar player said wait for the band to do their solo  like how was I supposed to know that? I like singing to my cd's. And even if I know the words to the song, I like seeing them as my security blanket to make sure I don't lose track.

Plus everytime I go to karaoke, somebody attempts to sing Love Shack or Black Velvet and ruin the song when singing to a cd so how do you think it will sound with a live band? I don't even want to think about it.

I understand.

I get used to a certain arrangement and even singing to another cdg (with a different arrangement) can throw you off.

For example. I sing that Lonestar song Amazed....on MY arrangement, the bridge has 2 key changes....on the Carnival arrangement ...it stays the same key.

When you are used to changing keys and all of a sudden NO key change...it can throw you.

Also with my arrangements .... there are built in cues.... something you won't get with a band (unless you have practiced with them)

It will still be fun. I will still participate...but I am afraid that a lot of folks who like doing karaoke will be disappointed.....because using a band is harder.

Actually, I'm not on youtube, but on my personal website (amysburton.com) I have a video my DH took of me and my daughter performing in the contest on the Westerdam in 2006. She got bumped the first night, but I made it through the semi-finals. Not too bad for an old grandma :D! The lady who won was great--sounded like Whitney Houston (in the old days, that is!).

I couldn't get your video's to open for me Amy. Oh well. Just a bunch of red x's. I see the comments.

I'm on both youtube & webshots. This one was taken on the Mariner in May and the KJ was hoot dancing with me.

http://travel.webshots.com/video/3028545880040669306UARYLl not clear of me but you can hear the singing anyway. Taken on the Elation.

taken in a local VFW/bar so excuse the background chatting.

"Until now, karaoke on Carnival ships, as at most other lines, only has been offered in lounges outfitted with traditional pre-recorded, sing-a-long music track system. Carnival still will offer such traditional karaoke on its ships."

According to this press release they will have both kinds - band and CD.

I don't sing, but think the band idea is really cool!

Sounds to me like an updated version of the talent show, but better as they will have backup singers. Every cruise I was on had trouble filling spots for the talent show, so maybe calling it karaoke will get more people to sign up.

Anyway, I read Carnival's news page and see that this is being implemented on the Pride this week. Good news for me, as I'll be sailing her in October. Can't wait to try this out. Though I've been in several bands in the past, never sang with a full orchestra. Hope they're willing to change keys (right Linda?;))
