big_duck Posted November 9, 2010 #876 Share Posted November 9, 2010 Usually an emergency is being re-routed because of weather. This particular emergency took out their 'fridges and cooking ability. They apparently don't carry tons of canned goods. Lots of apple pie filling.

kath00 Posted November 9, 2010 #879 Share Posted November 9, 2010 How exactly are they going to dock in Ensenada? With no engines running, how do they stop a huge ship like this and then get it to move sideways to get lined up with the dock??? I wonder if they have worked it out yet. Just the docking process could take a few hours with no engines to manouver it... Katherine

SheriNtexas Posted November 9, 2010 #884 Share Posted November 9, 2010 This has almost nothing to do with cruising, but do the following.... go to Google Maps.....get directions from Japan to China....then scroll down and read #43....:D:D:D Technically, since cruise ships are on the ocean, this post is not off topic...:p
Upandadam Posted November 9, 2010 #885 Share Posted November 9, 2010 I feel bad for the folks on the Splendor Roll call for November 14th. They do get a 25% discount on a future cruise along with a total refund but I know what it's like to be on a roll call and connect with several others who are excited about the upcoming cruise, just to have it pulled out from underneath you. Not quite as "last minute" as this however.

I just don't see Splendor being up and running and back in Long Beach in the next 5 days. :(

2cruiseagain Posted November 9, 2010 #890 Share Posted November 9, 2010 Shouldn't we be more compasionate towards these 4,000 people lost at sea. All we can talk about are twinkies and Spam? megan_in_pink Posted November 9, 2010 #891 Share Posted November 9, 2010 I am going to ask what might seem like very stupid question. Once the ship is being moved by the tugs and it gets closer to the port. Will the tugs at least show up on AIS?

Even when ships do have all their power/propulsion ships it is not uncommon for tugs to assist in docking.
CrusinAgain Posted November 9, 2010 #894 Share Posted November 9, 2010 So surprised not seeing the MRE's on the news. Actually they are quite good. The only bad thing is they are loaded with calories which the soldiers actually need, but it has everything in there including a dessert. We have two here and the water really does activate the heat and makes them nice and warm.
