NickCDN Posted December 23, 2010 #1 Share Posted December 23, 2010 I was about to print off our luggage tags and realized that there is a bit of light blue color on the tags. Do the luggage tags need to be printed in color? Are there different colors for different decks? Thanks Nick
RuthC Posted December 23, 2010 #2 Share Posted December 23, 2010 Are you aware that you don't need to print the luggage tags at all? They are available at the pier when you turn your bags over to the porters. If you really do want to print them, do so, and they can be replaced at the pier if they're not all right. NickCDN Posted December 23, 2010 Author #3 Share Posted December 23, 2010 Thanks Ruth, I was unaware that the tags would be available at the pier. NickCDN
QueenGlassHalfFull Posted December 23, 2010 #4 Share Posted December 23, 2010 The luggage tags do not need to be printed on a color printer. As suggested by RuthC, you can use the luggage tags available at the pier; however, you will need to fill in your cabin number and name. Go ahead and print the luggage tags in black and white and attach to your luggage before you get to the pier. You will save yourself a little bit of time when you arrive at the pier. DutchByAssociation Posted December 23, 2010 #5 Share Posted December 23, 2010 They can be color or black and white... doesn't matter. There's a different color for each ship. This is also from before Nieuw Amsterdam came out (I've seen those but don't recall the color right away) This is also the style available at the pier that Ruth mentioned. Or there's this, which is the print ahead, fold and tape/staple ones

cruiserchuck Posted December 23, 2010 #9 Share Posted December 23, 2010 We printed ours in black and white, and had no problems. I did not see any tags available at the pier in San Diego.
Krazy Kruizers Posted December 23, 2010 #10 Share Posted December 23, 2010 We printed ours in black and white, and had no problems. I did not see any tags available at the pier in San Diego. The porters have them -- and if they don't have them on their person -- they can quickly get you some.
Krazy Kruizers Posted December 23, 2010 #11 Share Posted December 23, 2010 I have a color printer and for the ships that we have been on -- the colors aren't that bright. So I wouldn't worry about using a color or black and white printer.
catl331 Posted December 23, 2010 #12 Share Posted December 23, 2010 Are there different colors for different decks? No, the only thing that varies with cabin location is the "routing code" following the cabin number in DBA's post of the Volendam tag.
GeriatricNurse Posted December 23, 2010 #13 Share Posted December 23, 2010 I use photo paper when I print my luggage tags, works great. I use regular copy paper when I print (fold/staple/tape) my luggage tags!;) It works great too!:)

Yes, the porters do have "generic" luggage tags with them (or nearby) but black and with is fine. Please consider printing them in b/w. Earlier this month my sister and I were on the Zuiderdam. She printer hers, I waited to get them at the pier. Her luggage arrived much earlier than mine and we were in similar cabins across the ship from each other. The routing codes do help get your luggage to the right place on the ship.
DFD1 Posted December 23, 2010 #15 Share Posted December 23, 2010 Maasdam's are green and white, but you can print them in black and white. Using the ones you print at home expedites the luggage sorting on board. FWIW Merry Christmas!
NickCDN Posted December 23, 2010 Author #16 Share Posted December 23, 2010 Thank you all for your help. I have decided to go ahead and print them ahead of time. NickCDN

This is great advice to pre-PRINT them since you don't want to have to get into another line up at the pier putting your cabin tags on. We print our and put them on after we pick up our luggage at the airport and remove the airline tags to avoid confusion. I can also confirm that if you do not pre-print you will not have routing info and it will take longer for your bag to find your cabin since they will end up on a cart where they will need extra sorting since we had booked four cabins in a row on HAL and those that pre-printed got their luggage about two hours after boarding, those that did not pre-print got theirs just before sailing.
