Explorer Staying In New Jersey

Recommended Posts

It looks like the Explorer of the Seas is staying put. RCCL is selling future cruises on Explorer from May 2012 forward. One surprising itinerary, they are having 7 night Bermuda cruises in September & October 2012.

That's good to hear.

Lately, all their television commercials mention cruising from New Jersey. Since Explorer always sails full, I expected her to be replaced with a Freedom Class ship.

Maybe they'll add another to do the longer Eastern & Southern routes on a regular basis.

Yes, there have been threads about this and many of us say YAY! RCI needed a longer cruise to Bermuda, they listening to their customers. :)

It is my opinion that a freedom-class (Liberty?) will eventually come to NJ, altho with the scuttlebutt about Explorer being stretched makes me think...and ponder, maybe Liberty wont come! Personally, I think Cape Liberty is the peerrrrrrfect place for Liberty to stay!

I just got off the Allure this past week and the Loyalty and Cruise Ambassador told us that Explorer was definitely moving out of Cape Liberty this year. She stated she had no idea what ship will replace her.

Once again an employee on a cruise ship offers so-called "inside information" which conflicts with what is actually scheduled to happen. It is difficult to understand why someone who is the loyalty ambassador whose job it is to know and be able to assist guests to book future cruises can be so mis or uniformed but it happens more often than not. Since the 2012 itineraries are showing Explorer in Cape Liberty through October 2012 at the least, the information you received was wrong.

Royal Caribbean made a statement saying the longer Eastern/Southern routes are being discontinued out of New Jersey because of rising fuel costs.

Did the statement say when those routes were being discontinued, because based on the info about the Explorers 2012 Bermuda cruises there appear to be 9 night intervals for cruises in between the 5 night Bermuda trips during the summer of 2012?

They would continue the 9 nighters, just discontinue the 10+ night Southern cruises Explorer has been doing during the winter months. I'll try to find the article, it seems like it was in Seatrader Insider.

Actually the 14 nighters they did during the holidays were to adjust for this years sailing per Capt Olav last week. They were not cost effective fuel wise and probably didn't make as much money on board but he didnt say that outright but discussed the fuel. RCCL has adjusted all future 12 night itineraries after this upcoming last 12 nighter to 11 nights for the future longer cruises. He told us and this was before the prices were released that explorer was staying until Oct 2012 and he was correct.

Other staff members said after that the Explorer was probably going to the Uk area due to the demand and the rotation of deployments. Freedom would probably make the move the Northeast. Also noted that we were also told by Capt...keep in mind that the company did move the Mariner out of west coast during a regular deployment so anything can happen at anytime regardless of what the schedule says.

We booked the 7 night Bermuda for Sept. Awesome prices for sure right now.

I for one am disappointed by this news. We sailed Explorer in December and would not sail her again.

We like the newer ships and thought it was time we tried an older one ;). Well we tried it and decided we wouldn't do that again.

We did enjoy the convenience of Cape Liberty and am hoping that the 'powers that be' decide to put a Freedom class ship there- that would be awesome!!!

We were very disappointed that Royal broke apart the Explorer holiday cruise. To date i cant find a roll call for either (well i havent looked since last week or so), but 2 7 nighters with horrible itineraries and probably no warm weather to speak of!! I mean, you wouldnt even want to do a B2B with the crummy itinerary and no caribbean weather to speak of. What an epic fail. I know many that feel the same way about the Explorer holiday cruise.

if a Freedom class comes up, it should be Liberty. :) (Cape Liberty. Statue of Liberty- Liberty of the Seas should have a home port with us!)

That's nothing compared to the Brits who are SCREECHING and CATERWAULING about RC changing 2 18-night holiday cruises into 3 12-night cruises.

;)

I think that you will find that us Brits are far too reserved and cultured to do either of those things!!!:p:D:D

It will be interesting to see which ship replaces her in PC if this happens.

Some of those people had been booked for awhile though. At least when I saw that fail of an Ex cruise (lols to cruisediva) it was when I was just considering doing that time frame.

I applaud RCCL for having a year round presence out of Cape Liberty, but I have moved on to the other cruise lines out of NY for variety since I am tired of the same ship. It can't be that big a deal to swap ships every few years

I agree, how tough can it be to switch out ships every few years? Im guessing (hoping) RCI is thinking the same and after the 2012 Explorer itineraries, there will be change! :) ~Hopeful in NJ

Either way.....Explorer is a great ship and a great crew. just needs some refreshing on the ports. Skipping a few of the many many sea days wouldn't hurt my feelings. Capt Olav left Labadee at 4 pm promptly on Thursday and put us in full throttle to pick up pilot at 4am on Sunday to pull in Bayonne. Saturday before lunch we were already off the coast north of DC and we sat most of the night out enough to keep casino open till wee hours. Gee we could have stayed longer in Labadee having the most wonderful weather we have ever had there. I don't know. I am not an expert in these schedules and timeframes by far but we so enjoy the longer cruises. Love the 12 day ones but hoped they would stop taking away the ports. 5 ports on a 12 day cruise and san juan is only a few hour stop. Has to be another way. We would have loved the holiday 14 cruises to continue. We already had plans for this past holiday far in advance. Loved the schedule. Maybe they will listen. They sure listen on Facebook so voice your thoughts on their fb page.

Funny you should mention this because I am thinking I am probably going to book the New Years Eve cruise because it is only 7 days and can possibly slip away for a bit from work.

We're taking the whole family away end of January probably on the Voyager so I was thinking some quiet time for hubby and me. I also kind of thought the weather may not be great but a heck of alot warmer then if we stay home!!:o

Never doubted you. My comments were directed at people like that Loyalty Ambassador who frequently say things without having the correct information to back it up. Not sure why they feel the need to do so.

On that cruise you're at sea except days 3, 4 & 5.

This is what you get: Port Canaveral 1pm-11pm, Nassau 2pm-midnight, and Cococay 8am-5pm.

I think they do listen to people, and they hear everyone saying, "I cruise for the ship!" Therefore, why not make more money on crap itineraries where you can make the most money?

Looks like the pricing on that cruise has already been lowered. I put in 2 people with no special pricing parameters and 'deals' were coming up for all categories. 2 people in an inside can go for $1518 total (plus taxes and fees).
