Live from the Allure of the Seas - August 21-28, 2011

We're going on the "other one." I'm really looking forward to getting to Labadee again - there have been so many changes since I was there in 2007 (to give perspective, they were just completing the zip line). We'll also be in Falmouth and Cozumel. My sister is getting married while we're in Jamaica - we're very excited for that too. :)

Any thoughts about your next cruise? (timeframe, location, ship...) February 12, 2012 on Allure seems to be a GREAT one. :)

I would forward to Labadee again, I was also there when on Freedom when it was still a tender port. Booking my next cruise may wait until after next tax season. I'm also trying to sell my mother's house, so that is another factor. At this point, I am considering doing like you going back on Allure on the Western, or trying Oasis (depending on which ship is doing which route when our anniversary comes up.) Also considering Freedom, or also considering a 5-7 day cruise. Still very up in the air.

Daghis,

Since you seem to have a nice camera, I have a request, but will certainly understand if you can't/won't or don't :) . Frequently discussions occur here about the art work on the stair wells. I forgot to get a picture of my favorite one (It shows how subjective art is) I think its in the forward/starboard stairwell, below deck 12. Its a picture that looks like an Eastern European town with some locals (kids) in local costumes, driving sheep and goats through town. The picture cracked me up and I just grew fond of it. I saw it every morning on my way to the running track.

Just wandering around the ship some this morning after having chocolate breakfast in the MDR. That was a surprise, especially since they gave me the wrong menu and I didn't realize they were featuring chocolate items!

Anyway, here are a few random pictures I took this morning.

I was used to seeing the alligator popping his head up out of the manhole by the Comedy Club on the Oasis of the Seas. These guys were in his place here on the Allure of the Seas.

This dragon was part of the Dreamworks decorations for the upcoming "Move it! Move it!" parade.

We've been hanging out a bit here... I like the sign, although I thought it was just called the "Champagne Bar". I didn't remember the "& Martini" part.

Lastly, for those who may be interested in one of those sweet coffee drinks, this may be of interest:

So glad to find this thread! Looking forward to reading your posts to re-live our own adventure on Allure a few months ago, and the anticipation of our upcoming Allure cruise is 25 weeks. :)

Have a wonderful journey!

Where do you live? I was "born and raised" in Harpers Ferry (barely WV).

Oh. My. God!

I just had a fantastic dinner tonight. We're back in the cabin after getting myself into a self-induced meat coma at Samba Grill.

We were encouraged to go there tonight because they told us about a special they had for My Time Dining guests. If you go to Samba Grill on either day 1 or 2, you can go for $12.50/guest (half-price). So, we went.

First, the service was fantastic. DH is a "pescetarian" (vegetarian + fish/seafood). We mentioned this to the staff at Samba and they noted it. When it came time to serve us the meats, they brought out a specially cooked salmon filet with roasted vegetables. And since we were doing an all-you-can eat dining experience, after he finished his fish, they even offered to bring him another!!

Despite the postings I've seen from others who had negative experiences, I can honestly say that Samba Grill is now one of my favorite places on the ship, but I can only go there once per cruise. It's all so filling and so rich... well, there's just no way I could do it again.

So that was Samba Grill. And half-price at that!

Earlier in the afternoon, I spent some time in the casino and won about $400. I'll probably go back there later on tonight as it's an enjoyable hangout for me.

We saw the ice show, Ice Games. Contrary to my opinion of Chicago yesterday, I found Ice Games to be quite entertaining and better than the ice show we saw on the Oasis of the Seas last year. I'm really glad that we went to that.

Oceanaria is coming up a bit later tonight. Of course, I'll let y'all know how that was as well.

Awesome pictures plus love reading your threads and comments.

Fabulous hint about Samba Grill; I have not read this on any other reviews about The Allure.

Will look forward to hearing from you again.

I'm on Allure next week with my twin 14 year old nephews. Any suggestions, activities, etc. that you would recommend would be greatly appreciated. One of them is actually concerned that he's going to be bored. I think that's code for "You mean I can't use my Blackberry for a week?"

Regarding weather: My mom is on this cruise. She emailed me this afternoon and said that the hurricane is just to the west of them and they were expecting to be in the outskirts of it around 4:00 AM, but they expected no problems and should be back in the sunshine by noon. Hope they are right!

How is the weather so far?

The weather has been fine, but as of late last night, it started getting rather windy outside, so the Captain has closed the open areas (outside decks, I guess including Central Park - not yet sure) as of 11:30 pm. He had expected that the weather will improve starting around noon today. I'm sure that will be to the relief of many pool-goers. The ship is rocking a bit, which is rather unusual for a ship of this size, but nothing major at all. It's still easy to walk a straight line down the Royal Promenade.

Thanks for the info on Samba Grill. We don't have anything schedule for the first night so we might go there. How did you find out about the 1/2 price special?

We received a message advertising this special on our TV.

I've never heard that from our kids who are currently 14 and 18. They easily find things to do, kids to hang out with, places to eat, etc. A cruise has always been a wonderful experience for them.

SO far so good!!!

Have you tried The Boardwalk Dog House yet? It was one of my fav places to grab a snack!!

Nope, not yet, but I'm planning to today... assuming we can go out on the Boardwalk sometime!

I found it between decks 6 and 7. I assume this is the picture you mean.
