What a ride! A true ocean voyage.

I am so envious of those of you who enjoyed this experience. I would too. In fact I would be thrilled! To me, this looks like so much fun!

Of course for those of you who were scared or sea sick or had issues with your cabins, my sympathies. I am sure it was not fun for you.

We were on deck 1 mid ship and our ocean view cabin provided a view of the ocean that we had not expected, the view of the water from below. At least the windows were sealed tight.

The cabin would creak each time a large swell would hit, and the elevators were an E ticket ride sometimes, but the loudest noises did not hit until we were tied up in port as our cabin was right above the access door used to remove luggage and bring on new supplies. They were moving stuff late into the night, but given that our stay on board was free and the ship did have to get ready for the next cruise, we had no problem with it.

Anyway the experience was great, not something I would want to happen every cruise but it made for a very memorable cruise.

Wow! I am so glad I didn't see this during the storm. It was my first cruise and I was too ignorant to be scared. Instead I had a great time roaming the ship and getting tossed around. I love roller coaster rides and this definitely was one. I have to say that the storm was the most fun I had on the cruise. Thank goodness for The Patch or I would have been down for the count.

Only bummer for me was that I flew in from California for this cruise and missed my flight home. It cost me an extra $260 to change my flight to the next day. Next time, I'll get travel insurance.

Here are a few videos I posted on YouTube. They're not as dramatic as the OPs but give you a different perspective.

I loved your videos, thought they were great! But I am glad I was not on board, just a few minutes of seeing the footage got me queasy!

And this is the reason why I call the Riviera deck "the Snorkel deck":D

LOL funny one....Hi Rose and all..I loved my one rough cruise..but I think i was dumb too..and i hate roller coasters but loved the up and down and was not sick..it was just the right side of awful I guess..no jerking quick plate crashes but lots of sliding and diagonal hall walks without booze in you and the bottom passenger deck snorkel:p:).

This was my 13th Carnival Cruise, and I thought it was bad luck taking my 13th over Halloween.......

There have been comments on other threads, some true, some not true, but here is my rendition. I was up and around a lot during the storm.

I WAS a wild ride. Some crew members had not experienced a storm like this in many years...or ever.

There are always people experiencing sea sickness on any cruise. Of course, this one had way more people experiencing this, but I was surprised how many people were out actually having a great time trying to 'hang on' or talk to strangers about the experience.

As much as the ship was bobbing like a cork, there was very little damage. Most of the damage was breaking plates etc in the kitchens, or in the dining areas as all of the sudden it would feel like we hit a speed bump. Some of the glass souvenirs in the shops were damaged. The stores were NOT trashed, not damaged. Many of the displays in the display cases fell over, but nothing damaged.

The odd light fixture fell from the ceiling, but I could not see any broken glass anywhere.

The lounge was closed. I asked what the damage was, and I was told that there was water damage that they were cleaning up. You could not access the TaJ Mahal lounge or the Sunset Garden.

The casino was not flooded. It may have experienced some minor water, but no way flooded.

I heard of nobody mentioning fire or smoke. Not sure where that came from, as I only heard of that reading some of the threads. No crew mentioned that, no smell of smoke, no fire alarm.

The Captain and crew were great. Sure, there could have been more communication....but why worry the guests? What would we plan for? If they said to prepare for TV's falling down there would be a lot of panic and unnecessary hysteria. The CD made a bunch of announcements, and the Captain came on a few times.

CCL made free phone calls from the ship available to everyone.......FREE....

And of course, there were people 'pissed' at CCL for the delay.... I tried to listen in on some conversations.....to find out at what exactly they were so angry at CCL about:confused:

But yes, I too was disappointed with Carnival. They ran out of Hot Chocolate on Sunday in most of their machines.

Here are some pictures, and a Youtube flick.

Swells...woa

Awesome spray.....this is ALL spray....

The 'bending' actually popped a hinge in the dining room

How kewl.. thanks for sharing:D

Soooo, all things being equal who are you going to sail with (or are you giving up on cruising all together)? Chances are you would receive the same or worse treatment from another cruiseline and the weather would have the same impact on the ship.

Actually, we will just give up cruising with Carnival. We always cruise Princess and have never had an issue with them, even in rough seas. It was the banging for 4 days that I have a problem with, and yes I would expect to be fully compensated if I experienced the same problem no matter where I vacationed. Why don't you experience what we did then tell me how you feel and what you would want. Don't judge me until you live through my experience. :(

Don't want you to think I'm condemning you, only you know how bad it was. But did want to add that my parents had a similar problem on Princess with a roaring noise in the wall next to their room. They thought maybe they ended up next to an intake of some type. Said it made their balcony almost unusable from the wind and noise but also noticeable in the room. They got nothing from Princess.

Sorry to hear that. But I know of others who had issues on Princess who were fully compensated. I guess it depends on which Guest Relations rep you get.

You do realize if you cruise on Princess, you are not staying true to your word to not cruise with Carnival anymore..considering Princess IS a Carnival line??

Yes I am fully aware Carnival is a sister company of Princess. But as with Chevy and Pontiac they operate independantly.

First, thanks for editing my user name, whatever it means:confused:. Second, I am not in the least bit judging you, just trying to point out that what you experienced is just as likely to happen elsewhere. Third, I used to have F-14 Tomcats landing 1 deck above my bunk. I doubt a little banging would be that much of a concern for me:cool:.
