The Pride: What REALLY happened...

Wow! Great video. We experienced rough seas in the North Atlantic in August 2010 but nothing that bad.

I can't believe they ran out of hot chocolate! You should get a full refund and a free cruise for your troubles! ;):D

Sounds like you had a great time anyway. Hopefully you'll have calmer seas next time.

Thanks for the pictures and the video. We sailed on September 11th this year (peak Hurricane season) and had rough seas down and back, but not nearly as bad as this one. We felt the captain did a wonderful job while we skirted 2 different storms on that trip. We also sailed 2 years ago (December) on the Pride and had a couple of rough days on the way back. I enjoy seeing the rough seas and spending the time relaxing and watching the waves. I think coming around Cape Hateras is going to typically be rough, it just is. Anyway, glad you got back safe and sound. Bah humbug on the complainers. A cruise in a storm is better than work any day!!!!

My first ship was a flat bottomed LST so BTDT for weeks at a time:D. Give me rough seas over any type of carnival ride (except maybe the Ferris Wheel) any day.

what i didn't mention were the pimply teen operators trying to push that security bar into my bulbous belly trying to compensate so my kids could be secure.

I'd accept a rough ride on the seas a lot faster than one in the air. In fact I'm always a little disappointed when our cruises are too perfect and smooth.

I once sailed to Bermuda during a storm (close, but not quite as bad as this one) with "Perfect Storm" for my reading material. I have to admit it caused me to keep my eyes peeled on the waves until the storm passed.

I am glad all arrived home safely.

Hubby, a retired naval officer, shared stories of his experiences at the helm of LSTs (Yes, his duty often was to "steer" the ship.) He is never comfortable on a cruise ship when it begins to roll and takes the anti-nausea meds. He loves the roller coasters, though. I am just the opposite...cannot handle the roller coasters but love rough seas. Go figure:D

did the pride sail out yesterday?

It looked like she was in embarkation mode when I drove past at 11:30 am. That's the cruise that will likely have more disgruntled passengers. I'm thinking since they got in Sunday evening and didn't start embarkation until the following morning, they probably got most of the damage repaired, but some things could have still be affected. Either way, the pax lost a day of their cruise, and most importantly it's one of the days meant to be spent in Bermuda. :(

i'm also wondering what type of seas they are experiencing.

The "fire" (who knows) was smelt by people who had wandered places they shouldn't have been around 9AM or so... 2 + 2 together, it was probably from the water damage in the showrooms.

That light fixture was a pretty popular photo spot. lol. Also on 7 on the odd number side there was a sprinkler line that I think broke, it was tied up with the roof tile popped out.

Funniest "damage" I saw was in the sports bar, which apparently lost all of their liquor during the storm, apparently. One of the "ball" sculptures, you could pretty much have taken the basketballs if you wanted them.

There was also a problem with the lido dome, but that was a problem before we got on. It was jammed halfway open, somehow in Freeport they got it closed, but I don't think they got it locked, and it was the source of all of the BOOOOOOMS that sounded out that morning.

Really, they did great with everything that took place after the bad swells got started, it's the stuff before, I don't quite understand what they were doing, not closing decks, emptying pools, telling people it could go to ****, ETC. Seems like they got caught with their pants down which the Captain pretty much admitted.

personally, i would have run to the casino to that "pushing quarters" thingie!

Nothing fell out. I was stunned. I actually made a run through the casino on the way to go sit and wait, and the bills were still in the machine. They must glue it to the machine or something.

Well...I got notified this morning on my hurricane IPhone app, that there is a new hurricane (Sean) as of this morning, tracking to go between the Pride's current location......and of course Bermuda.....

They may get their extra day after all.;)

OK I know I am the minority here but that looks like so much fun!!

Of course on a cruise I love nice weather but, if it is going to be cruddy out the bigger and badder the storm the more exciting it is to me!

Same goes on land, the wilder the better!:)

My co-worker was on that cruise, her and DH's first. They had a blast. She mentioned that when they were in Freeport she was still walking with the feel of the ship. Little did she know the 'best' was yet to come! :D She doesn't eat a lot of meat so a couple of nights she had the Indian vegetarian dinner and loved them even though she thought it was too much food. She said they drank alot. Took in a show or two and the comedy stuff and kareoke. Did the wine tasting and the Martini Times twice. After dinner the last night they played nickel machines and cashed out $500 to knock the S&S down to around a grand. They declined the offer to stay Sunday night because she had to be at work on Monday at 5 a.m. DH called out...'woose' her words. She couldn't understand why some people were complaining..."it's the weather stupid!" She mentioned that the next one will be a 5 day because they were 'burned out' the last two days. One thing she didn't mention was the Art Work on the Pride. The only negative comment was the ACD got on her nerves a bit, mostly because of his 'doo'. Looks like another one is hooked.

Currently it's about equally as bad as it was Saturday a bit east of where we were. Looks like that will drift NNE, so yeah, they're gonna get a ride too. Shouldn't be as bad on the way out but they'll have to cross it on the way back.

I mean, we had 5M+ probably from Friday night to Saturday night and other than the morning it wasn't that much of a PITA, you could get around, the boat could move forward without being manually driven, so it shouldn't wreck their cruise.
